Saw that Parker will return to Kentucky to ba a grad asst. coach... I think it is great for him and an inside eye to this region of play. Parker helped Russell against OC last year and with the connections that he has to local talent it can only increase the chances of local talent getting better looks. Grizzle to UK seems more likely after hearing about Parker going to UK.....or you would think the support would be there.

It is written: " 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.' "

Who is Parker? What does he do, where did he come from?

He set state records for rec yards and receptions. from Lawrence Co set state and National records. And he did this on a team in the 90's that did nothing but run the ball. He is one of the nicest guys you can ever meet.

If I remember correctly he came and helped Russell before the 05 championship game. He was familiar with the Tony Franklin offense that OC ran so he ran some plays to help the boys understand how to defend it. Looked to me like it worked. Seemed like a real good guys according to my son.

Congrats Mr Parker. That's a nice job to have at 26 years old. I'll expect UK to win 10 games next year! Imagine this... UK wins their division..beats Florida and plays for a BCS bowl.

Parker takes job at Kentucky
By RICK GREENE / The Independent
Gerad Parker has resigned his position as assistant football coach at Raceland to become a graduate assistant at the University of Kentucky.
Parker, a former receiver at UK and a record-setting All-Stater at Lawrence County, said he wants to pursue a career in college coaching.
âItâs been an interest in the past six months or so to get back into the college game,â Parker said. âThe opportunity arose and I couldnât pass it up.â
Parker, 26, said he has spoken with head coach Rich Brooks and offensive coordinator Joker Phillips and sees the position as a chance to learn more about coaching the college game.
He said his duties will include coaching receivers, working with scout teams and breaking down film on opponents.
Parker said his two seasons at Raceland helped prepare him for the UK job.
âI learned real quick that you have to know something 10 times better when you coach it than when you played it. Thatâs because you have to teach it,â said Parker, who coached receivers and defensive backs for the Rams. âIâve had to study the game and learn the game â especially at my two positions â so I could teach it to the kids.â
Parker returns to a Kentucky program that appears to be shaking the effects of probation that were still being felt when Parker finished his career in 2004.
âWhen I was there, there were so many things going against us. Now thereâs some stability and ever since coach Brooks got there Iâve believed in what heâs tried to do,â said Parker, who played for Brooks for two seasons. âTheyâre doing things the right way and theyâre starting to reap the rewards.â
The Wildcats are coming off an 8-5 season and a 28-20 victory over Clemson in the Music City Bowl.
âItâs an opportunity to go back down to the alma mater and learn more. Iâm totally approaching this as a learning experience,â Parker said. â(Quarterbacks coach) Randy Sanders and Joker Phillips are two big names in college football. And coming from the SEC, that will give me that much more on my resume. Hopefully, that will lead to an assistant coaching position in college.â
Parker, who said he is grateful to the Raceland community for its support, is married to the former Kandi Brown, an All-State basketball player and member of the 2000 West Carter state championship team.
Parker is Kentuckyâs all-time high school leader in receiving yards (4,736) and is second all-time in career receptions (238) and touchdown receptions (52).
Parker begins his new duties later this month.

I want him here in Louisa in the future.

I know this thread is about Gerad but some of those records aren't right. I know personally that Jeremiah Akers has 3125 on 173 catches. Putting him 4th in rec. yards instead of 11th. It also puts him 7th in catches and tied for 9th in TD catches with 36. All of these official stats cam off http://www.pikevillesports.com - Go to football then click on records.
