Best Player & Coach Relationship?
#1
During a game you have to notice certain players and coaches on the same page. The coach which trusts the player to do the right things and the player that trust the coach to lead them to victory. Who has the best player to coach relationship on and off the court?
#2
I don't know about now, I really don't pay much attention to that. When I played me and Coach Runyon had a good relationship.
#3
Clark Stepp and Gary Stepp are kin to each other so you cant get a better relationship than this
#4
Yeah BMR seems to have good realtionships with all his players from what I can see. As does the assistant coachs in P-Ville have good program.
#5
Cordia Players and Jeff honeycutt...................haha
#6
Coach Mark Starns and point guard Jaryd Crum seem to have a great relationship on and off the court!!

Barry and Pete. History of McDowell team of 1968 and how Barry choked and how Pete took McDowell to the state three times. GroundHog Day revisited. I think He must have coached Johnny Martin also. Either that or hired him at Allen Central when He was Superintendent.

Every coach yells at his players, not all curse but that's just coach Runyon's way of gettin his point across. When you do the things you are suppose to do and play your *** off you don't get yelled at.

I wondered if BMR isn't too close to the players and parents on this team.

I don't know if you are a set up or the real idiot, but it really doesn't matter, because that is how things are. If this is someone trying to make people mad, you don't have to put so much effort into it. The real one can do it a whole lot better than you without saying a word. When you hear about Ervin who went no where yet averaged 54 points a game under Joe as his coach, it shows you, winning comes second and points come first as long as they are making them.

How bout John Noble and the kids at Buckhorn......He's shown extaordinary leadership on and off the court as a mentor to these kids. The way he's turned the program around over the past few years through hard work and a positive attitude is deservant of some recognition.

WE all know a coach has his favorites on a team......but IMO i do not think this is right......a coach should not pick a favorite out of his team, he should give everyone a chance to prove theirself and show what they have but NO WAY have a favorite JMO!!

BMR and Van Ferguson have the best relationship!
#27
Have to be Gary and Clark.

I am getting tired of getting on here and seeing post that slam Jeff Honeycutt. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but if some players @ Cordia don't want to play for him transfer.

This is a little off topic and I don't even know who Jeff Honeycutt is so it isn't directed at him, but kids can't transfer under KHSAA rules and play. They are at a disadvantage of having to play for the coach hired by their school whether they are a good coach or not.

I have been around long enough to see good coaches and bad coaches, coaches that are fair minded and those that will stick it to a kid for a variety of reasons. The current system is established thinking that everyone will be fair minded though. Knucklehead coaches usually don't last long, but high school players only get a limited number of years to participate. Even having one year of that messed up by a coach or controversy not of their doing isn't right.

I have heard and read many times that the coach is in charge and makes the decisions. I was taught to listen and respect the coach while I was growing up, but as you get older, you begin to know the individuals. These people aren't Gods and certainly don't always make the right decisions in their lives or concerning thier programs. From pee wee, little league all the way through high school, adults have agendas. You hope if they do something truly horrible, someone will speak out, but sometimes these agendas aren't even apparent to them. It may be they click with a certain player or don't with another. Sometimes they need to be questioned so they may understand thier own actions.

However, kids rarely have an opportunity to voice thier concerns or do it in the right way. I would never have gone in to my coach at 16 years old to have a discussion that suggested he was wrong or out of line. I might have let my emotions get the best of me and say I quit, but that would never have lasted long with my parents.

But if there is one thing I have learned, if there is enough complaining for long enough, there generally is a problem. However, until someone questions the problem, the kids have to take or quit because finding a better fit isn't available to them.
