#1
RICHMOND, Ky. – Head Coach Mark Elder announced that seniors Jeffrey Canady, Kobie Grace, Kagen Skidmore and Tim Boyle, and redshirt junior LJ Scott will serve as permanent team captains for the Eastern Kentucky University football team throughout the 2017 season.

The Colonels begin their season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Western Kentucky. The game will be streamed live on FloFootball.com starting at 7 p.m. ET.

Canady is a linebacker from Barbourville, Kentucky. He started all 11 games last season and was chosen to the Academic All-District® Football Team. Canady led the team, was second in the Ohio Valley Conference and seventh in the nation with 123 tackles (11.2 tackles per game). He posted a season-best 17 tackles at Tennessee Tech (Oct. 1) and against Murray State (Nov. 5).

Grace is a defensive back from Winter Park, Florida. He started all 11 games a year ago and finished fourth on the team with 57 tackles. Grace ranked fourth in the OVC and 31st in the nation with 0.27 forced fumbles per game. He finished with a season-high 13 tackles and recovered a fumble against No. 2 Jacksonville State (Oct. 22).

Over the past year, Skidmore has transitioned from the defensive line to center. The Somerset, Kentucky native appeared in 10 games in 2016. Before moving to the offensive line, Skidmore had 12 tackles, including 1.5 sacks for a loss of 11 yards. He had six tackles and 1.5 sacks against Pikeville (Sept. 8).

Boyle is set to begin his second season as a Colonel, but the quarterback will be looking for his first game action after redshirting last season. As a junior in 2015 at the University of Connecticut, he threw for 281 yards and completed 31-of-60 pass attempts. The Middlefield, Connecticut native started the final regular season game against Temple (Nov. 28), going 12-for-20 for 121 yards. He played from the mid-first quarter on in a win over nationally-ranked Houston, finishing 12-for-22 for 110 yards.

Scott joined the EKU program in January after spending three years at the University of Louisville. In 2015, the running back from Marion, Ohio rushed 39 times for 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He earned the start versus Texas A&M, rushing five times for 27 yards. Scott broke off a season high 43-yard run in the fourth quarter against Kentucky that year. He hauled in a career-long 52 yard reception in the first quarter against Syracuse.

Eastern's first home game is slated for Sept. 23 against Tennessee Tech. For ticket information, contact the EKU Athletics Ticket Office at 844-3-GOBIGE.

The Eastern Kentucky University football program has won two national championships, 21 conference titles and has made 21 playoff appearances. No other Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team has won at least two FCS national titles and 20 or more conference championships.
