Highlands travels to SK next!
#5
They have a week off. Then I think it's Dixie Heights. With Simon Kenton and Cov Cath around the corner drooling
#6
I was wrong. They do play Simon Kenton next week. Then a bye week. Then Dixie and Cov Cath
#7
I guess The Bluebirds still have a long way to go .

Is Highlands young? Have they lost talent to other schools? What is going on, at one time this was the only school in the state that rivaled Trinity's tradition.

Talent down somewhat. COACHING

Does anyone know if Highlands played kids both ways?

Yes, some players on occasion play both offence and defense. HHS coach has been slow to play guys both ways. Just started at the end of last year.

From my perspective it helps some but not enough to change the outcome.

Several things have attributed to their poor performance

The schools they play have gotten much better over the last 10 to 15 years.

They have a coach where its his first time being a head coach. Dale was a head coach at two schools in Cincinnati before taking over at HHS. The current Head coach as been an assistant coach at only HHS and was in charge of the defense. When he became the head coach he took over the offence and this year move back to the defense. They now have a new offence coach this year.

Current coach does not have the experience that Dale had to know how to make the necessary adjustments based on players capabilities. He is still learning and needs time.

School has mid 400 boys and playing up in class and they do not have the number of athletes in the student population they had in the past. I understand the younger classes will see an improvement.

They have close to 100 boys on the team. This can be good but when the talent is down it becomes a problem. They platoon and sub positions and there are players that should not be taken off the field.

I think it would help if they play in the class that fits the mid 400 boy population - 4A

Do you think the kids playing both ways are in shape to play both ways a whole game?
#13
Coach has been there for a long time under Mueller. Comment was made he was just like Mueller. And that came from Mueller. He's nothing like Mueller and never will be. Learning curve??? Really???

Has nothing to do with coaching.
#15
Oh ok. And the cow jumped over the moon. I've have a bunch of people say it is. And the grumbling in the city is going on big time. And they aren't talking about players
#16
How much better would the current highlands team be with coach Mueller at the helm? I have a suspicion that the difference would be negligible.
#17
He will not bother the new coach. But they would be better.
#18
Unless they have changed their conditioning program. Kids aren't in shape to play both ways an entire game.

Absoloutly no reason schools should be allowed to do this.
By them playing up, 2 schools with 5A numbers are allowed to play down.
The KHSAA has let Highlands and Cov Cath pick and choose where they want to go for years. They put a stop to it 4 or 5 years ago but bent over and took it like the good little boys they are when Highlands and Cov Cath decided they wanted to go back.
