Your thoughts on US Senate / VA Hospitals
#1
I am curious to know how members feel about our US Senators & US Congressmen being held to task on the deplorable conditions within the VA Hospitals across this country. The only reason this issue has finally gotten any press @ all, is the Washington Post's expose' regarding the hideous conditions and irresponsible treatment of patients (namely Gulf War Vets) within the Walter Reed Army Hospital. Do you believe there will be a trickle down effect to improve VA Hospitals across the US or will this issue drown in a "Katrina-esque" type deal where billions of dollars are thrown down "blackholes" for improvements that never come to fruition?

Those who have served our country are the ones that come back to the United States and end up homeless. Those who need healthcare the most are the ones who get treated like this in hospitals. They deserve and NEED better treatment and conditions than what they receive now. I would HOPE that because some attention is being brought to such a sickening problem that VA hospitals everywhere will start to clean up their act.

I would hope that we asa country would treat those who go off to fight for our country regardless if they get injured or not would get some decent respect when they come back needing medical help. I think it's a sad thing that the conditions of the VA hospitals are in the shape that they are in. You would think as a country we would take better care of our veterans as well as our current soldiers than what it seems we have been. After all they were the ones that got suited up everyday and we out to fight for the righs we have today. I think it's a shame.

That is a great post DT. A good majority of homeless people are seriously veterans of branches of the United States Armed Forces. Our soliders go over to foreign lands to fight to keep our freedom and to improve the safety of our country. They step on landmines, have a leg blown off, come back here, are admitted to a hospital to be taken care of and THIS is what happens to them. One of my good friends growing up had his nose and part of his face blown off by a roadside bomb. He was married on the Regis and Kelly Show, some of you may have saw that but I would like to think that if his stay would have been longer in a VA hospital and had to have more care than what he did that he would have received it...but he wouldn't have. Those who are laid up in need of rehab are left in nasty conditions with poor care.

Doctors and nurses of veteran hopsitals, help these people out! They risked their lives in order to save yours and give you the freedom to have the career and make the money that you do today.
