Congrats to Pikeville. They controlled the play up front and dominated

Congrats Panthers!! Keep it going right on through. Williamsburg had no answer on offence tonight, and Panther D played lights out all through this game.

Ponder did not play. It did not matter. The loss of Davis and 3 linemen to defections and injuries derailed a promising season for Williamsburg. Injuries are part of football but Ponder's suspension and the two linemen quitting after the first game made Williamsburg very limited.

Hate to hear that for Williamsburg! They had some great pieces this year!

Pikeville is very good but did not wow me like Hazard last year.

6 possessions 6 TDs in first half (3 run 3 pass), gave up half the yardage Hazard did last year, held W'burg to 6 pts...with 1 senior on the field...they wowed me.
They are pretty good and going to be hell on wheels the next several years in Class A.

Eâs army must be hard to get wowed, that was a great exhibition of football the 1st half. Offense and defense played lights out. Way to go PANTHERS. Itâs gets harder now ever game so enjoy this win but back to work Monday.

This was not meant as a slam on Pikeville. Last year Williamsburg was playing very well coming into the Hazard game. They limped into the Pikeville game this year. With Hazard last year I had no doubts that they would beat Paintsville. Pikeville could easily win the next two weeks. But they could get beat by either of the 3 other teams in the East. Pikeville matched up well to Williamsburg's weaknesses. My real question is whether Pikeville was that good or Williamsburg that weak. I did not have that question last year with Hazard. Williamsburg struggled with both Lynn Camp and Middlesboro in recent weeks. Williamsburg could not stop Lynn Camp from running the ball. They could not stop Ludlow from running the ball. Somerset and Paintsville ran over top of them. You have a great coach who watched film. He lined up and ran over Williamsburg. Williamsburg had to sell out to attempt to try to stop the run. That gave Pikeville opportunities throwing the ball. Losing Davis and Ponder caused Williamsburg to move kids around on defense. Your coach did a good job of finding those spots. Pikeville played well but it was like shooting fish in the barrel. You come home with a lot of fish but not the test of catching them with a fly rod in a stream. Good luck to Pikeville who were a very classy bunch last night. One question for Panther fans. Why do you pooch kick when your kicker seems to have a very strong leg? You were giving up short fields last night when Williamsburg did not have a return threat without Ponder in the game.
11-11-2017, 04:14 PM
Your right Eâs army itâs harder catching fish with a fly rod (thatâs the only way I fish) but with good technique and doing things right you do catch them and itâs a whole lot more rewarding. But with that said I donât know if Pikeville will beat Hazard or not but back to the fishing thing if they use the right technique and do things right it can be accomplished. I like their chances and Paintsville donât matter right now itâs just Hazard which is a great task. What if this guy played or that played does matter but everyone has those even Pikeville.

When it comes right down to it, the only thing that matters is you line up and play who's in front of you. To be honest about it I wish Ponder could have played and anyone else that was originally on the roster, and if that were the case, I don't think the outcome would have been any different. Still a win.

Ponder would not have mattered, but you take your best running back who also played D, your starting center, guard, tackle who were also your best D lineman plus Ponder who is your best athlete was a lot to over come...Still might have been a loss but donât pretend the margin would have been the same...How good would Pikeville be playing without your 3 best O lineman, 3 best D lineman and your best running back and your best athlete...
Congrats to Pikeville and best of luck the rest of the way...

This was a great game to travel for. Very nice people and appreciate the hospitality shown. One question everyone in the stands had was what was up with the fireworks going off when Pikeville scores last night? Our fans were shocked. We enjoyed it, but were very surprised. Lol

I still believe the Panthers are a year away but have improved immensely this season. This is the year for Class A schools to beat Pikeville because they will be very very tough to beat for the foreseeable future. I see a couple state championship game appearances for the Panthers on the horizon.

Hey, no pretending here. Maybe I should have been a little more clear in my statement. Anyone with any common sense would know if you had all those back that you mentioned it would have been a closer game. Still think it would've been a W for Pikeville. Congrats to Williamsburg for making it this far, and good luck to the Jackets next season.

Going to make a few points since there is some bickering on multiple threads then I'm done with this game. I like Williamsburg and rooted for them twice in the state finals, so no disrespect at all...
1. I don't buy that Williamsburg is not as good as last year's team. That team barely beat Pineville by a TD and beat Middlesboro by a similar score as this year, got crushed by Paintsville and gave up a zillion yards losing to Hazard. Calpreps gives this Williamsburg team a slightly higher (~a point) rating than last year.
2. Pikeville lost Battaile (maybe best QB in 1A and great defensive player) and also C Dawahare (starter and very good player) so W'burg isn't the only team to be splaying short-handed.
3. Bluebird seemed to be obsessed with Ponder but let's see who WAS on the field: Poore (344 yds passing 2TD passes 1 rushing TD against Paintsville this year) White (13 receptions 207 yds TD catch against Paintsville this year) Powell (2 catches 55 yds TD catch against Paintsville this year) Mattingly (4 catches 33 yards against Paintsville this year). Plus a whole bunch of other people out there lol...Pikeville shut them down.
4. EA says this is Pikeville's worst team since 2013. When someone's worst team in years puts a running clock on you in the first half on your home field in the playoffs maybe you should be wowed. The margin is 36 and that is for 1 half. But the Panthers will have to earn respect on the field (as it should be) and not because some guy posting on a board somewhere is wowed or not.
Good luck to Williamsburg. They will be back in the thick of things soon IMO.

^Hope that didn't sound too harsh. Again, nothing but respect. The ramblings of a (somewhat buzzed) armchair QB who is right 50.01% of the time before paying the juice...:truestory:

Jet pilot which team in the last 5 years was this team better than? This is a very good team. Not special by Pikeville standards. Panthers have set the bar high. Hazard is not as good as last year without the Smiths. Pikeville will give them all they want. Next year Pikeville should be clear #1 in East preseason. This team reminds me of Williamsburg team that lost to Mayfield in finals 42-0. Next year their only loss was to Mayfield in overtime in finals. That team had several losses early to good teams much like Pikeville this year. Hit their stride late and beat good Hazard and Raceland teams. Pikeville is capable of that. Good luck next week and the rest of the season.

I made the top 3!!

2. How about comparing Pikeville to Paintsville when they actually played? The Tigers Shut em DOWN!

Thanks EA. That Williamsburg loss to Mayfield had me sad for a week. They had that game won 5 ways from Sunday and were the best team in 1a.

1. It shows you how much Pikeville has improved playing W'burg much tougher than Paintsville did!

After I saw W-burg this year I said that they weren't nearly as good as last year, which surprised me since they were fairly young. I didn't realize they had lost several linemen. I expected Pikeville to win easily this year, especially without Ponder. I think he's their best player.
Pineville was much, much better last year with Woolum at quarterback. They had a HUGE drop off this year
