Beechwood gets punched in the jaw by Somerset. Starts season 0-2 and still ranked 5. Donât seem right. Gotta stop living on what they done in the past and look to now and the future.

Breathitt Co is too high. Murray is better than OC.

1. Somerset (best win of any 2a team so far.)
2. Mayfield (quality wins but nothing as impressive as Somerset.)
3. Breathitt (new transfers are learning their roles and getting be every week.)
Big drop to everyone else probably have LCA at 4

Somerset hasnât played the quality of teams that Mayfield has played. Bee hues are down. Paintsville is 1a. Lausanne is still top 5 in TN div 2, Hopkinsville is a top 5 team in 4a and PT is a top 5 team in 3a. They may not show that in the rankings right now but, they will by playoff time. Itâs just that the eastern voters on here are not seeing what we are here.

Dang spell check. Bee hues is supposed to be Beechies

Mayfield is still a clear #1 by a long way. here are Mayfield and Somerset comparison to date
Wolfcat I looked over Somerset's 3 opponents to date to find the best win. Its not there. Beechwood will likely be 0-4 to 0-6 before getting a win if that is what you are calling the best win so far
Somerset Opponents: (2-6 combined)
Rockcastle Co (1-2) Unranked on our Rivals poll. MaxPrep national rank is 7,571 with the state rank of 110
Montgomery Co (1-2) Unranked on our Rivals poll. Max 7,076 State 99
Beechwood (0-2) Ranked #5 on our Rivals poll. Max 4,334 State 59
Mayfield Opponents: (5-3 Combined & all were undefeated until playing Mayfield)
Memphis Lassane (1-1) ranked #3 Div II (private schools) Max 2,761 State 61
Hopkinsville (2-1) unranked on our Rivals, Max National 2,190, State 26
Paducah Tilghman (2-1) ranked #10 on rivals, Max national 5,020, State 66

Agreed. Their schedule is weak as water. Beating up on patsies shouldn't get you in the top 10.

Breathitt doesn't have nor will have by the end of the regular season any quality wins to hang there hats on. That doesn't mean they aren't one of the better teams in the class. IMO, they likely are a Top 5 team, maybe even #1, but, they'll never get that ranking because of the schedule they play. Teams like Mayfield, Somerset, LCA, etc.. may have a loss or two, but, it's because they've played teams that could compete with them or beat them on a regular basis.. I'd still have them at #4 right now..
09-10-2019, 06:30 PM
I think Breathitt is most likely a Top 5 team this year, but, because of there schedule, it'll be hard to get a good gauge of just how good they are. I would guess if they could go back a year or two and know what they know now, they'd have tried and scheduled up a little better. However, just because they don't play that tough a schedule, doesn't mean they aren't one of the best teams in 2a this year. They have a lot of talented and skilled players.

Pretty big accomplishment all of 3 weeks into the season.

For the record, I think it's pretty clear that Mayfield's opponents have been stronger than Somerset's to this point.

Lexington Christian arguably has the toughest schedule in 2a this year.

Certainly does not mean the Bunnies wont clobber us but it does provide evidence that we have better wins and at this point would get the #1 seed. We could lose every game left and this would all mean nothing but for now I think we are deserving of the 1 spot

Agreed. Danville's is pretty tough as well but by the looks of things they won't be padding their RPI with many quality wins this season.

Mf would put a running clock on Breathitt in the first half. MF is clear cut #1 in 2A.

10. Newport -20.5
Strength of schedule seems to be the topic this week in 2a. Here is Calpreps strength of schedule next to the BGRivals rankings. Higher number better.

I think Breathitt would have their "hands full" with Mayfield, but there is no way Mayfield puts a running clock on the Bobcats. Breathitt's offense is too talented for that to happen. I personally hope to see this match up in the later rounds of the playoffs.

I canât see that happening. I see that game if/when it happens coming down to who has the last possession.

We may find out in the semis.

I'm just going by the eye test. After seeing all 3 of my top teams play in person and on film this is how I ranked them. I think at this point in the season Somerset would beat either of the 2 on a neutral field. As for Breathitt and Mayfield I think it would be one heck of a game that would be too close to call so since Mayfield does have the better wins at this point i would give them the nod @ #2. This changes week to week based on injuries, player development, coaching, etc.
It's easy to sit here and just compare strength of schedule. I think scheduling tough opponents early on in the season is a great test and beneficial come playoff time. However just because team A beat better teams than team B that does not dictate the outcome of a potential matchup between A and B

Maybe you don't see so well?

This Mayfield team has a the best chance of going 15-0 since the 2010 team who did do just that. I do not believe there is a 2A team this year that will stay with 21 of Mayfield. I do think it is likely Somerset who we will play in the finals. But no one in AA has the personnel to stop this offense. This Cardinal team is more lethal than anyone in its class led by QB Stinson who is the best QB in class AA if not the entire state. He has the best WR in Neely and 4 or 5 others that are elite. A decent line and several really good backs. The defense has given up a few but they are pretty darn good and our special teams are really good.

Talking to a lot of people around the program Somerset is squarely focused on a great Williamsburg team coming up next week. If theyâre fortunate enough to be involved in game 15 of the season they will have earned their way through a pretty brutal road themselves.

I've asked you this several times and you don't seem to want to answer: Which games of each team did you go to in order to make this comparison?

The sheriff is on the case and detects a little b s. He wants the facts and only the facts. Sounds to me like a lot of driving seeing how Mayfield hasnât yet been easy of Hoptown and Somerset hasnât been west of Danville.

When you live in Central KY not that far either way. Especially when you're off work Friday and Saturday.
Probably go see DeSales and Lexington Catholic. Been wanting to see their qb.
Also,
Breathitt scrimmaged at rockcastle which is well west of Jackson.
