Look no further than Kentucky Country Day in Class A. Beat a bunch of crappy teams who are also beating a bunch of crappy teams. Still it is amazing how high their RPI is playing one of the easiest schedules in the history of football...

Edit: According to Calpreps, Pikeville opponents' record 19-12, KCD opponents 12-23. RPI is fishy at best!

What it boils down to is if youâre gonna be the best youâre going to have to beat the best. Typically in region and semiâs there are no easy games and that wonât change. Now not always, but typically.

^^^All true, but this thread is about RPI.

I figured out how KCD RPI is so high. Turns out you get bonus points for beating the crappiest teams in bigger classes. Everyone will know how to game this system in the future...

This is info I hadn't seen on KHSAA. I'm actually glad they are doing this. It will encourage teams in the future not to schedule as many lower class teams. However, now the complaint about out of state teams is more real.
The game value factor is based on the class of the team being played for each calculation and is only relevant to instate games.
⢠This weighting is based on a 15% difference for the game value as class sizes become larger.
⢠Those game value factors are:
o 1A = 1.323
o 2A = 1.521
o 3A = 1.749
o 4A = 2.011
o 5A = 2.313
o 6A = 2.660

^^^Bad part is teams will do like KCD and schedule crappiest large school teams to get artificially inflated RPI.

Iâm just saying I donât think RPI is as big as people are making it. And Iâm sure a coach would have rather played a brutal schedule to get playoff ready that an easy schedule with a great RPI. I donât think your true contenders are going to schedule to try to get a good RPI.

^^^My only gripe is some teams who should be playing at home deep in the playoffs will end up having to go on the road in this system.

Another bad part of the RPI is the out of state opponentâs win percentage. Paintsville is playing at Union VA next week and Pikeville destroyed Mingo Central in week 2. Both Mingo and Union will have a great win percentage but under this system both teams automatically receives a .500 winning percentage.

Yes and Pikeville still has to play Ridgeview who is ranked #2 in VA 2A and is undefeated and has all-world 5 star RB...meanwhile Williamsburg gets same points for beating Jellico, one of the worst teams in the whole nation...

And then get beat in the 2nd round or region at best. It all shakes itself out in the wash, no matter what system we use. Raceland, Pikeville, and Paintsville will continue to play atleast a top 10 3A teams in Ashland, Russell, Somerset, Beechwood and Belfry. Coupled with playing eachother, their RPIs will be higher over this system more consistently. KCD and Campbellsville will continue to be dark horses at best. NCC will eventually if not immediately own that side of the state through the district rounds. Once reseeding begins, who knows how things shake up. But my point is, the usual teams from the east, will continue playing better competition, regardless of how it affects their rpi, and the playoffs will still end up looking very similar.

Also. Much easier for KCD to schedule 5A or 6A teams than it is for an EKY team.
And now that bigger schools wonât have any incentive to play smaller schools, imagine how big of a nightmare scheduling is going to be for coaches. Pikeville already has a hard enough time trying to fill out a schedule. The KHSAA needs to do the right thing and go back to 4 classes.

This is not true. Opponents are counted straight up. Their opponents will be .500

Do you really believe KCD will get to the third or fourth round?

The opposite motivation applies to the larger schools. They will be penalized for playing a smaller school. It takes 2 to make the schedule.

Can someone please explain how wins (&/or losses) against out of state opponents work in relation to the R.P.I.?

KCD is a district favorite which will put them in the 3rd round.

Well after further review of this document.

Out of state teams are stupidly being counted .500 in both OPW and OOPW.
I was wrong.

The post you are referring to wasn't about KCD but the whole state under this RPI system. It will happen and the affected teams will be very upset and rightfully so.

Iâd rather do coaches polls than this and that sucks
09-28-2019, 09:08 PM
Calpreps would be far superior by the playoffs.
