NASCAR "owns" the car numbers and teams generally keep the same numbers year over year. The rule -- Section 20 - 3.11 -- reads, in part: All NASCAR Nextel Cup Series car numbers are owned by and will be assigned by NASCAR for use by the car owner. Car numbers are not transferable or assignable by the car owner. No timetable has been set for an announcement of Earnhardt's car number or team sponsor.

She is sticking it to him. 2 motors blown in last 3 races and she is doing this to keep him from making the chase so she can say I told you all he can't drive.

Why don't Dale Jr. quit crying like a little girl and take whatever number HMS has to give him. You don't hear any other driver complaining over not keeping the same number. Look at someone like Dale Jarrett who drove the #88 car for a while, then left RYR for MWR and switched to 44. He didn't cry. Kyle Busch isn't crying over leaving the #5. It's about time Dale Jr. realized that he isn't what makes NASCAR, and that everything doesn't revolve around him.

She's not driving the car. She may not want him to succeed with him because he's leaving, but any smart business person wouldn't cut their own throat for the sake of "I told you so." She'd rather him win with her, make her money through the chase and sponsorship, then cut him loose.
Plus, she keeps the rights to #8 merchandise and if Junior struggles with Hendricks, I'm sure fans will start grabbing up #8 stuff and those products may still be produced down the road.

that 8 is not worth a hoot without Dale Jr and there is no merchandise for DEI without the JR.

rallo316 Wrote:that 8 is not worth a hoot without Dale Jr and there is no merchandise for DEI without the JR.However, I do agree with this. Jr. is the most sought after character in racing. Of course, whatever number he drives, the merchandise sales will go up. Fans don't care one bit to pay another 25 dollars for a number 81 t-shirt.

I forgot where I heard this from, but someone said his new number should be eighty something that way all the Jr. fans with the #8 tattoos only have to have a new digit put next to it instead of trying to cover the whole thing up. I thought it was pretty funny.

So sometime in the future, you wouldn't buy a Junior collector's diecast of the #8 car?

I will not buy anything to benefit Teresa Earnhart.

Teresa flooded the market when SR. died with reissues of all his cars just so she could make alot of money off his mourning fans. Now all the original cars that I and alot of other folks collected are worth next to nothing. I havent bought a diecast of SR or JR in 3 years now. Ill probably buy JRs new car when it comes out along with a hat, a shirt, and a sticker to replace the #8 on my truck LOL!
