I have heard this many times through out the season and felt it would be appropriate to post on it. Many have said Ashland's Head Coach Leon Hart will be hanging it up after this season. What have you heard, who do you feel would be a good candidate for the position?

IMHO I belive the coaching staff is just fine the way it is. Those guys have done a lot of good things for that program. Just because they have a down season dont mean the coaching staff is to blame. Every team has down years its part of the game.

I concur, one bad season is no reason to start thinking about a new coach. Just because you don't make the final four every year is no reason to think about a program overhaul. Successful programs are successful mostly based on 2 things: stability of staff, and community support of little league programs (ie, getting the kids started early).

I agree however that isn't the reason for coach hart to hang up his hat the rumor has been that hes just ready to retire from football and enjoy his grandson.

From a football standpoint I could see why people around Ashland are upset about how this season has turned out. From a personal standpoint I don't blame him for wanting to call it quits to spend time with his family.

If they do it will be huge mistake.
Coach Hart is a class act that runs a great program.
You can't be 12-2 every year!

It should be completly up to him weither he leaves or not I don't think that the outcome of this season would pressure him to leave. Atleast I would hope not

The plan is for Coach Love to take over at that point.

Coach Hart is a great coach. I think that if it is his decision to retire then everyone should honor that, but if the admin. is putting pressure on him for one bad season, they should be ashamed of themselves. He has been nothing but a standup guy his career and I believe that the state would be better off if there was more Coach Harts. Good luck coach with whatever your choice is.

I played under Coach Hart for his first four years at Ashland, and i think he is a great coach. this year he didnt have to much to work with. his first four years were very successful. this one year obviously does not make him a bad coach as most of you said. for the matter of his grandson, i have heard that and i'd say he'll do so in the next couple of years.
IMO Tony Love would be an excellent coach. he was my lineman coach as well as Weight training and Wrestling. if you play under him you'll be disiplined in the end. He is a great man. He would be a good Head coach as well.

I only had the privledge of playing under Coach Hart for one season and he is an outstanding man. I've always disagreed with some of his coaching methods, strategy, playcalling, etc. but up until this season he was highly successful at coming away from each game with a W and you can't argue results. I would love to see the program take a turn at this point and allow Coach Love to take over IF Hart decides to leave. I would hate to have him passed over again for a job he has rightfully earned and eventually drive him from the program in the fashion that was done to Lee Evans.
If Love does take over as Head Coach we all know that the defense will stay the same, but what does everyone think Coach Love would run as his base offensive formation? I know there would be much less passing and a lot more focus on the line and blocking, which I believe is where the team overall needs to make the biggest improvements. They have been lacking in that area for several seasons although seem to be making good strides late this season.

I personally think that with Carter and some of the up and coming backs at Ashland the wing T would be good. Any Offensive change that is made needs to be taken all the way to the JFL.

If Love has already been promised the job I would think that was a violation of EEO hiring practices.
The job will have to be posted and the school will have to entertain other candidates right?

If you hire from within, you don't have to post a job opening.
