Highlands is too much in the end for Covington Catholic... Good luck to both.

Highlands- 35
Covington Catholic- 17
#8
Highlands will win by 4 or 5 td.
#9
What seed is Covington Catholic? If they're a four seed, then that means an upset would lead to a home field advantage for either Clay or Letcher in the regional final.
#10
Highlands by 2-3 TD's
#11
Stupid question on my part, if they were the four seed they would have already played Highlands.:o

I'm gonna take Highlands in this one.

While I think Highlands will win, the margin of victory is tough to call. There is no doubt that CovCath has improved dramatically since the 5th game of the year. They returned very few starters off of last year's team, so the team was still pretty green at 5 games. Plus, they were without their best running back (Buckley). So one would have to assume they will be much better with the running back back in action and the other players better seasoned.

Then again, Highlands beat them by 14 on CovCath's field and this game is at Highlands. Perhaps of most importance to the game being at Highlands is that CovCath's artificial turf is of some material that is very slippery. I don't notice the CovCath kids slipping much, but Highlands running backs were slipping a lot. CovCath must have some different type or style of cleats. Its really kind of bizarre to see if you can believe it. Plus Highlands had two tds called back for penalties that didn't affect the play, plus lost two fumbles as they were moving the ball, plus they missed two field goals easily within their kickers range. Eliminate the uncharacteristic turnovers and penalties, and Highlands would have won the first game by a big margin.

My guess at this point is that Highlands wins by 14-21 if they don't fumble the ball a lot and commit a bunch of stupid penalties. They really do have a much better team than CovCath this year.

If CovCath wins and LCC wins, then LCC would host next week. If Highlands wins, they host regardless of whether LCC or Clay wins.

HHS: 35
CCH: 21

I think this will be one heck of a game. After a shaky start to the season, CCH has improved vastly, and with their star running back, back in the backfied (that was an awkward phrase) they should have a much more effective game than the earlier match. Hanging tough with a very talented St. X and avenging an earlier season trouncing by Dixie Heights are a testament to their growth.

That being said, Highlands has proven to be an extremely solid team from the beginning of the season to present, growing more and more dangerous with each passing game. Some say it's harder to beat a team twice in one season, but the earlier game for the Birds was merely an appetizer for this climactic showdown. And with sworn vengeance for last years losses to the Colonels, expect the Bluebirds to pull out all the stops.

This will be an intense rivalry game (one in which all odds are out the window) and I expect CCH to hang strong through most of the game, but I believe the Birds will maintain their discipline, and their heightened conditioning will wear down CCH, allowing the Birds to pull ahead by at least two TD's. This is the game boys in Fort Thomas prepare for their entire football careers, and arguably the toughest obstacle on the road to Louisville!!!! GO BIRDS!!!!
