How will Class 1A pan out next year in the mountains?
#1
Will it be same teams such as pikeville and hazard or are they some suprise teams in the dark waiting to make a run....
#2
IMO, Hazard will stand alone next year, the Bulldogs bring back almost everyone from what I understand and it's the total opposite for Pikeville who loses 14 seniors. I don't know what Paintsville returns but they lost a lot as well, but it wouldn't surprise me if South Floyd made some noise next season in class A... Good Luck to all of them in '08.
#3
I look for Hazard to be tough as usual then your upstate teams are going to be the same. However we will see a huge decline at Pikeville which has been at a gradual decline over the past 4 years or so.
#4
1 football in the mountains next year is going to be dominated by hazard. pikevillie is losing a lot, harlan is in a rebuilding year, and jenkins is as well. south floyd might be up some, allen central will be same as aways, and paintsville we be about like south floyd
#5
Hazard, nobody will even be close to Hazard next year in any district IMO!
#6
South Floyd returns all 3 backs in Kyle Howell (#3 rusher in class 1A and #23 in the state)
Tyler Mitchell & Bobby Meade...they also have there Startin QB in Tommy Joe Hall back unless he gets anther injury then they will have this past years starter in Chad Patrck...all tho they lost most of there O & D line so they will have to rebulid there lines
#7
will jenkins field a team next year? I think that is avery relevant question.
#8
dont think i seen south floyd any this year. dont think i even saw them on sports overtime. hopefully i can see them next year. i wish those kids the best of luck next year because that district is going to be wide open.

Like most of the previous posts, I too feel Hazard will be the shining star of the mountains next year. Most of our team returns on offense as well as defense and our feeder program continues to churn out good young players.

This year has been wonderful...next year should be just as good or even better!

Go Dawgs!!!

Hazard will be there, if pikeville can get past paintsville they will be there.
#11
IMO pikeville will be good. Like i said Harmon returns, josh mullins will go as blocking back for chaz is what i hear. And Marvin Lee to fullback. Also blake branham to QB. In order to be good, the Panthers will haved to work hard.

Hazard will be good im pretty sure

District 6 mt teams of Williamsburg and Lynn Camp return a lot of players. Williamsburg was mostly Juniors and LC had over 20 Freshmen and Sophs. Campbesville only had two Seniors this year, it should be a fun district. Hazard should be the top dog
#13
Williamsburg should be tough. I hear they may be picking up a couple of talented transfers to boost a solid returning team.

Lynn Camp is always solid.

If Black returns to Whitley, (the current rumor is that he is going to be given one more chance to improve things), there will be several Whitley players leaving the program. None of Whitley's better players or parents want to suffer through another two win season with Black. Black has 5 losing seasons in 7 years as a head coach (including 3 two win seasons). There is no reason to believe that next year will not be his 6th losing season in 8 years. Simply put, Black is a proven loser. Combine his losing ways with the fact that he will not even take the time out of day to speak to his players parents and you can see why most people want him gone. If the administration actually gambles away another season with Black some players will simply quit football others will transfer. Not a good thing for a 5A team that fielded fewer than 30 players last season.

I have heard from a reputable source that one first team all district player (he was also an all area selection) and one honorable mention all area player will be moving into the Williamsburg School district soon in effort to escape the Black Plague. Both their dads really like Coach Herron and feel their kids are not properly treated by Black. Both players are big strong athletic types that will help Williamsburg to compete on a state level next season.

There is also some rumors about transfers to Corbin. One of the names involved here will be very surprising if it happens. Like I said, nobody including life long Whitley supporters want to waste another season of their sons careers with a proven big time loser.

i have some family down there and he said that some of the best players never even played. said some boy named tommy land we real good but quit. and that rider kid is pretty decent from what i saw. not sure if he is the brother of that ladale rider that attented back in 04 or 05 or whatever but that kid was fast.

The Rider kid (Anthony) is Ladale's brother. He is a different type of player than Ladale, but he is very talented. He is athletic, has good speed and has very good hands. He is young for his grade, but he is starting to develop physically. I expect him to endup in the 6-2, 185 lb size range as a senior. He is definitely a solid NAIA prospect.

The Lann kid that you are speaking of returned to the team, but for some reason (????) never got to play more than 10 downs all season. Strange, to say the least, since he was arguably the fastest player on the team, had great hands and good size (6-2, 180). Especially strange when you consider the fact that Whitley scored about 14 points per game this season. A lot of things Black does are strange to say the least which is one of the reasons he does not seem to be able to win more than two games per season.

Considering the fact that Whitley has over 600 boys enrolled and that they fielded fewer than 30 players last season, I would say that it is an accurate statement to assume that there are better players in the hallways than on the field. A big problem in all male sports at Whitley. This is again due to the attitude of the coaches in male sports. The coaches refuse to recruit within their own hallways. The coaches tend to have the attitude that players should feel that it is an honor to play for the coaches rather than the attitude that it would be an honor to coach 100 players on a winning team. This is a huge problem at most big consolidated county schools not just Whitley. Another problem along this same line is that when kids quit, for what ever reason, rather than chasing the kid down and calling his parents to keep the kid out, the coach simply writes them off. When a coach is running a losing program, with rediculously low numbers, he should be smart enough to realize that keeping good players or even potentially good players on the team is his number one priority. Until Whitley finds a coach that will recruit the hallways and drive up the hollars to have supper with the maws and paws in an effort to convice them that Jethro and Johnny should be playing football, they will not win on a consistant basis. Coach Black does not understand this concept and his record demonstrates it.

Who will we lose to...just out of curiosity?
#22
the top 4 teams in the eastern part of the bracket is going to be, Hazard, Lexington Christian, Raceland and Williamsburg( probably not positive but heard those kids are transfering from Whitley County to there.)
#23
Hazard will be tough!
#24
i hope hazard is tough, they should be, its basically the same from last year except middle and outside and safetys on the fields. but offensive wise same crew. i expect michael campbell to have a big year next year.

I am sure glad that you are not a parent in Letcher County. You are the type of person, and I have told you this before, that can ruin a program. Negative, Negative, Negative....all the time. Maybe you should go and coach Whitley County, you seem to have all the answers.Rolleyes

Coo...i wasnt being a d**k. I was genuinely wondering who everyone thinks will be good teams in 1a next year besides us. I think LCA and Raceland will be the teams to beat.

Coach Black has needed no help in ruining the Whitley Program. He has done a great job of ruining it all by himself. Considering you LCC folks are district rivals, I can see why you would want Black to stay at Whitley. As long as Black is at Whitley, LCC will have no worries about Whitley.

As I have said many times before, I base my opinion entirely upon Blacks Numbers. He has been a head coach for 7 years. 5 of those 7 years have been losing seasons. In 3 of those 7 seasons he has won only 2 games. At Whitley he has gone 4-17 over the past two seasons while averaging about 14 points per game and giving up about 4 turnovers per game. All this offensive production running a freak offense that only the Akron Zips run. The Zips have had as much success with it as Black has.

Black has personally destroyed a once proud Whitley program. They have won about 17% of their games with Black and the numbers are at an all time low. Less than 30 varsity players last season in a school with over 1200 students. Do the math, then talk to me about negativity.

You must be a coach or radio broadcaster. Only a coach or radio broadcaster would expect parents to sit by quitely while a coach performs like Black. Black should resign and return his coaching stipend for the last two seasons. Resign for the good of the program and return the money because he has done nothing to earn it.

Not like you were world beater's the two years before that. Whitely was a combined 9-12 the previous two years. You are obviously very upset with your coach and I am not going to argue with you anymore. The bottom line is this Possum Bait. Players have to believe that there coach is the best coach in the world and that everything they tell them is the correct thing to do. I will tell you this. Some of the best head coaches I have seen do not know a lick of football. They simply have that certain quality of making kids believe in themselves and each other. It doesn't matter if you run the spread or wishbone, if those 11 kids on the field believe in you are doing, you can win ball games. If they start to doubt the coach, they do things there own way, which is usually the wrong way. This leads to kids quitting, arguing with the coach, and eventually losing games! You by yourself have created this doubt in many of the player's heads at Whitley and probably could get some credit for all the kids that quit.

Mountains I think Hazrd is the best team by far. LCA and Hazard should be the two best in the state next year and if anyone will beat LCA it will be Hazard, but it will be the last year to do so 2009 LCA will be great.
