Central: 'We're going to win it all"
#1
"All the teachers and staff kept coming up to me and saying, 'Good game. Congratulations. Thank you,' " Wadlington said. "They all want to know what we're going to do Friday. I told them, 'We're going to win it all -- for ourselves and the school.' "

I'm sure that every kid that is going to play in a state finals game is thinking about winning it but to find this quote and post it on here will make Belfry want it even more. Belfry is by no means a sleeping giant but more like a steamed locomotive that cannot be stopped and won't be denied. I've got Belfry by 14+.

As I stated in another thread.....IMO, Central thinks they are the favorite....

Belfry needs to stay focused and play smash mouth football. If that happens.....by 6:00 pm Friday....Pond Creek will be in a celebratory mood!

I understand that they have had a very difficult regular season schedule, but what could possibly make them believe that they are the favorite? Home field advantage won't even be there once the Pond Creek Nation pulls into town!

TongueirateSho I agree!TongueirateSho

It's a great story but it will still come to an end this weekend. GO PIRATES!

I think Belfry is going to bring it all home.Cool

Well, I am really glad for them that they get to experiance the State Championship for the first time. It's a special moment, I remember Belfry in 2003, how great it was to be there and Central will never forget it.

I don't blame or criticize the Central player for thinking they will win it all, but you have to really be careful as to what you say to the media as it will get out.

Overconfidence can be a killer, especially playing in a game you have never been to--On this big of a stage--Against a team that is 14-0 and has 2 State Titles in the last 5 years.

Something tells me their coach doesn't show them game film.
The Nation is going to drown out the Central fans, we take the home field advantage no matter where we are. They can be overconfident, because the overconfident team pays for being that way.

Either team could be over confident. The central team thinks they will win it all. The Belfry fans as far as I can see think they will win it all. I don't think the Belfry team has been tested nearly as much as Central.

Everyone talks about the fact that they are undefeated and have won 2 state championships in the past 5 years. Central played arguably one of the toughest schedules in 3A and have a decent record against some great teams. The players for neither team have been to the big stage so I am sure that both teams will have butterflies.

I think the main difference will be the coaching and the fact that Haywood will be able to keep his team a bit calmer and more focused on the game.

You can throw out all of the talk about the 03 and 04 teams and championships because they are in the past and those players have moved on. This year is this year and I expect it to be a great game with Belfry winning in the end.

TECHNICALLY, the 04 freshman are seniors now, but, yeah, not sayin' just.. sayin' lol.

Everytime Centrals been tested, they lost.

I thought about the Freshman but if Belfry is like most schools they do not travel with the team so they would not have had the opportunity to witness the pizza box.

That is true but they had Highlands down in the third quarter and only lost to them 21-13. They played Male, St. X and Manual as well.

Sure they have been tested and beaten but who has actually tested Belfry this year? 2A Corbin and 5A Johnson Central. Neither of those two teams are near the caliber of X, Manual,Male and Highlands.

Again I am not saying that Belfry will lose but some of the fans think it will be a walk in the park.

What about Breathitt?

I was strictly going by the regular season. In the play offs Belfry's opponents records are 35-15 and Centrals are 29-21.
#16
Oh okay, I understand completley.
Any chance you can get me regular seasons opponents records?
#17
Nevermind, Midee, just read your other post.

Central 80-42 for a .650 winning percentage
Belfry 59-58 .500 winning percentage.

I think that Belfry's may not include the games that East Ridge had to forfeit. If not it would be 61-56

I found this on Calpreps...

1Belfry (KY)Kentucky3A District 8
3A Record 14-0 Rating 44.4 Schedule Strength 0 .5 Opponent's W/L 96-71

2Central (Louisville, KY)Kentucky3A District 3
3A Record 9-5 Rating25.4 Schedule Strength 12.7 Opponents' W/L 109-63

Not wanting to cause a fuss, Central may indeed be as good as everyone says, but just because they've played and lost to bigger schools does not make them any better. Now, if Central had beat some of the bigger schools that would be saying something (IMO)...

I am not looking through my Belfry Red glasses and saying Belfry is going to walk all over Central. I think it will be a hard fought game on both sides, regardless of who wins!

Good luck to both teams Friday...but "Bring it Home Belfry"!!! TongueirateSho

No way Belfry loses this game, no way...
#21
There is a way. It's being overconfident.
btw, midee, all of our freshman travel with us.

That is interesting. Very few of Russell's freshman teams suit up and travel. I think there were two that did in 05 when they went to state and I believe that one of them played in the game.
#23
What would you expect the kid too say. Central is not going in there to lose. To quote Herman Edwards, "you play to win the game".

Central very well could beat Belfry. I'm not saying they will but they could. Belfry has risen to the occasion for every big game this year. They most likely will again. But they are not a machine. They are kids. You just never know.

All freshman where asked to stay out of they wanted to but most of them in 05 didn't cause of BB and thought that they would not get to play, and in 06 all of them stayed out but 5 cause they went on to play BB,
#25
TongueirateSho We have several freshman that [play basketball also, but they are a team! Coach Haywood makes that perfectly clear! Each member of that team plays a very significant role! Our freshman played three days a week most weeks. (Freshman games on Thursday night, JV games on Monday nights, and Friday night games...in the second half) TongueirateSho

They're not like most teams. At Belfry, regardless of class...everyone travels Freshman-Seniors.

Our freshman were at the pizza box in 03 and 04. They always travel as a team! TongueirateSho

It really does not matter what fans think...Most die-hard fans think their team will not lose a game. The only ones that need to have their heads in the game and not be over confident are tha players on the field. The fans can be as confident as they want and would not make a difference.

I agree. The fans have no bearing on this game just like the 03 and 04 teams have no bearing on the kids that are on the field come Friday.

I said it earlier and I will say it again. I think Belfry will win but I honestly do not believe that it will be 2-3 TD's.
