Raceland at Wheelersburg Scrimmage 8/15
#1
The Rams cross over the pond to take on their second boat of Pirates this preseason for their final tune up before we roll into Putnam. This is another quality scrimmage year in and year out. But I’m hearing that Wheelersburg may be down a little this year. They definitely aren’t the same Wheelersburg that were competing for titles but they are still a very good program and always have speed and athletes. This is usually a live game of varsity action for 3 quarters and then JV/Frosh for the 4th. Anyone know anything about the burg this year?

I know they are gonna take an A$$ whoopin Friday!

Picking the Rams to Win 1A this year. I had them last year too. Sooner or later I’m bound to be right! Lol

Hey Rammers, I believe if you're ever gonna hang one in the rafters, this is the year ! Wait and see if the only team standing in your way will be the boys about 70 miles South from you. Raceland is a class 1A powerhouse but if the injury bug leaves the Panthers alone as they play by far the toughest schedule in class 1A, Coach Mac will bring a beast into the Playoffs when these two meet in December I believe it will be a war.

Doesn't seem like too many years ago we went over there for a "scrimmage" and ran into a team ready to make a statement in a live game scenario. They lit the scoreboard up and left many of us wondering where our scrimmage game went. I wasn't there for the entirety so it may have become a little more of a scrimmage game later on?? That was my one and only scrimmage experience with Wheelersburg. Anyway, I'm guessing they won't be as enthused about turning on the scoreboard this year but I still hope it's more of a traditional scrimmage where no one "wins" and we just play football with the goal of making some final adjustments and coming away injury free.

They do scrimmages different over there. They treat it like a real game and want to murder you. I think the first time we went they wore uniforms and the band was there .stadium was packed and we treated it like a scrimmage and platooned and it got a little ugly

Their scrimmages resemble “bowl” games it seems. Personally I like it. Gives us a game feel while we iron the last few wrinkles out before week 1. Wheelersburg isn’t what they used to be, but on film they looked like they still have good size and a lot of athletes.

I hear the Rams are getting their teeth kicked in. There’s a long ways to go before this Ram team is good

Not sure there’s a I’d in a white jersey that cares about being here tonight. Very disheartening

What is the score?

27-7 at the half. Most undisciplined football I’ve seen out of my Rams in over a decade

Wheelersburgs throwing the ball on u all.

My guess is they hurting Raceland via passing game.

I don’t know bac but from looking at them looks like they have some studs and a bunch of them

Don’t engrave that championship trophy quite yet. Rams are very good but it’s a long season.

It was rough tonight. I really can’t put my finger on it. Idk if it was a rotational thing upfront or what. We just looked lost at times. Didn’t look anything like we did last week. DL struggled all the first half really bad. Offense was all over the place from play calling to execution. Still looked to be in scrimmage mode with no real rhythm or identity in the first half.

But, we did move the ball. We had a missed FG (should have went for it, imo) and two other empty possessions inside the 10. Score those 3 times and it’s a different ball game. I was more bothered by the defensive side of the ball. We gave up big plays against both the run and pass.

After last week I thought we looked, poised, and mature. Ready to be THE team. Tonight it looked like we bought into the hype and expected Wburg to roll over. We looked like we were there to scrimmage and they looked like they were ready to win a playoff game.

I’m taking it with a grain of salt. Real season starts next week at Putnam. What matters is being 1-0 after that game. Got some wrinkles to iron out though that’s for sure.

Heard alot of talk that WBurg wasn’t the same Wburg from the past. That Wburg team was massive upfront and extremely fast sideline to sideline.

Their OL had to avg 6’4” 260 or better. All moved well too.

One last thing and I’m going to bed lol….

If the 3 empty trips inside the 10 end up being TDs, then we are talking about how good we still are and how we are still the one with a target on their back. Plenty of size. Plenty of talent. Plenty of speed. I will call out Shannon Marushi though. He was a leader on the field and sideline tonight. Never held his head low, just kept working and encouraging guys. That’s what this team needed at that moment. Kudos to him.

The Raceland Rams got dog walked. Beaten in every facet of the game. Wheelersburg is good but not as good as we made them look. Hope everybody liked the big giant slice of humble pie they got tonight. From what I heard practice all week was just like this game. Everybody reading newspapers and believing the hype. Tonight we got brought back down to earth really hard. They ran over us through on us. What ever they wanted to do. We stay in this frame of mind Ashland PRP Pikeville will alll kill us.

Wheelersburg did whatever they wanted. We had a bunch of bodies on the field but the heart and minds were far far away from that football field tonight.

My thoughts on the scrimmage with belfry is they hurt you all the first two series on the option and runs to the outside. They also had a couple receivers that got behind the DBs when they tried to pass but those passes were off. Those runs later in the scrimmage was shut down later by raceland. I also thought you guys screened Belfry death. Belfry had trouble with with it for sure. But I figured a good passing attack might hurt Raceland.

I will go on record and say that if Raceland plays Sayre in the playoffs, they are cooked.
They are just horrible against teams with athletes that can throw the ball. It's like no matter what year it is, no matter what roster they have, they cannot throw the ball confidently and they cannot stop the pass.

Sayre better improve stopping the run quick. I hear they did have some starters out but Breathitt had there way with them.

Did Raceland not want to give there kicker any more chances after the first miss? Definitely the time to get him those chances to build confidence.

I think we were just too busy blowing chances in the red zone. 1 for 4 tonight

Well you convert those like said earlier it’s a different game. Did they have any turnovers or turnover on downs in the red zone?
