PRESTONSBURG â The inaugural Focus High School Football Combine will give
senior high school football players-to-be and underclassmen in Kentucky
and surrounding states the opportunity to showcase their skills and
talents in tests and drills Saturday, June 14 at Blackcat Stadium on the
campus of Prestonsburg High School. Coaches from NCAA Division I, II and
III, NAIA and junior college football programs will be present to evaluate
players.
The combine will be comprised of the 40-Yard Dash, 20-Yard Shuttle Run,
Bench Press (Repetitions of 185 pounds), Vertical Jump and Broad Jump.
Preregistration for the combine is underway. The combine is open to any
high school senior-to-be.
âThe inaugural Focus High School Football Combine will afford area high
school football players from throughout Kentucky and surrounding states
the chance to not only perform in front of college coaches, but gauge
themselves in the various tests and drills,â said Focus High School
Football Combine Director Steve LeMaster. âThe combine is a perfect
opportunity for seniors-to-be to actually gauge where they stand in terms
of speed, strength and agility just over two months prior to the opening
game of their final high school football season. Thereâs been a void in
Kentucky for this type of event. Now, high school football players from
Kentucky and bordering states will have a grand stage where they can
showcase their skills and talents. Some of the nationâs top college
football programs will have coaches present at this combine.â
Numerous college coaches â from all levels â have already committed to be
in attendance at the combine. The debut event will coincide with the final
day of the annual Prestonsburg High School 7-on-7 passing tournament. A
postgame meal will be provided at the conclusion of the combine. Each
combine participant will also receive an event T-shirt and a copy of their
individual results.
Preregistration for the combine is $50. Onsite registration will get
underway at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 14. Registration on the day of the
combine is $60.
Applications are available through high school football coaches and at
area businesses/sponsors. For more information on the Focus High School Football Combine, including a registration form, call 606/794-6409 or email footballcombine@suddenlink.net.

It was my understanding that the NCAA ruled in late January or early February that coaches could no longer attend such events. Only "scheduled practices and games at the player's school" were allowed for visits. Sure would like to have a clarification. Could be the advertisement text is old....many camps and combines have had to scramble and rearrange their event due to the ruling. I know some national events are filming their event and sending film to coaches and posting on websites to comply and still have coaches view performances.

This could be a good event if they'd have individual drills. That's the most impotant part of the evaluation process. Individual drills.

Here is a "revised" release on this event...
Focus High School Football Combine to offer full results, video
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – The Focus High School Football Combine will debut
Saturday, June 14 at Blackcat Stadium on the campus of Prestonsburg High
School. Per new NCAA guidelines, college coaches won’t be able to be in
attendance at the combine. Numerous recruiters, however, showed an early
interest in attending the combine as early as fall 2007 and will follow
the event despite being absent. College coaches will have access to video
tape of the combine along with full results. The Focus High School
Football Combine staff will distribute all combine video and statistics of
the various prospects in attendance. In addition, the Focus High School
Football Combine website, scheduled to be launched in early-May, will
include live updates throughout the event.
The NCAA's Football Issues Committee, an advisory panel composed of
college coaches and administrators, supported the new legislation on
combines. The legislation was presented to the American Football Coaches
Association (AFCA) more than a year ago. The rule was aimed at cutting the
number of combines held nationwide.
“The NCAA’s recent ruling won’t limit the Focus Combine,” said Focus High
School Football Combine Coordinator Steve LeMaster. “Players in attendance
will still have a great opportunity on a grand stage prior to the start of
the 2008 high school football season. Results from the combine will be
delivered to all NCAA Division I II and III programs along with every NAIA
and junior college program.”
Although college coaches won’t be permitted to be in attendance, numerous
former college and professional football players – none of whom are on the
staffs of any college gridiron programs – will be present at the first
Focus High School Football Combine.
“College prospects who attend the Focus High School Football Combine will
also have the opportunity to meet and talk with many former college and
professional players,” LeMaster added.
The combine will test college prospects in the 40-Yard Dash, 20-Yard
Shuttle Run, Bench Press (Repetitions of 185 pounds), Vertical Jump and
Broad Jump.
The Focus High School Football Combine, scheduled to get underway at 8
a.m. on June 14, is open to high school seniors-to-be as well as
underclassmen. The registration fee for the combine is $50 prior to the
day of the event. Those who register on the morning of the combine will be
charged $60. Registration forms for the combine are available via email at
footballcombine@suddenlink.net.

This could give a shot to the kids that are good, but don't really get recognized. This sounds pretty cool.

This is a great chance for kids from the mountains to get there names out there and they don't have to travel to Lexington, Louisville, and Columbus, OH; to showcase there talents.

I agree 100% it's about time someone stepped up and tried to help our mountain boys show thier skills. We DO have talent in EKY.

Does anyone know of any local players that will be attending this event?

Frazier from LCC who just returned from the Ray Guy kicking camp at EKU is planning on attending if he doesn't return to EKU for the Sr day camp.
