Who wins?
We could see a rematch of Ft. Campbell & Newport Central Catholic, but teams like Prestonsburg, Bardstown, Green County, Metcalfe County, and DeSales could make there way to Papa John's also.

Fort Campell is load, they actually looked like the third best team at state last year outa all classes, so much talent and size.
I seriously look for them to handle their biz all the way to another state title.

Fort Campbell is the favorite but I look for Prestonsburg and Green County and NCC to make serious noise in this class.

I see it going down like this
2A semi finals
Metcalfe County vs. Fort Campbell
Newport CC vs. DeSales
State Title Game
DeSales vs. Fort Campbell

I agree the Falcons will be hard to handle this year.

NCC & DeSales will play in the region championship not the state-semi's.

How many players did P-Burg loose last year? That heartbreaking lost to desales means that they haven't forgotten it, and it must be in there heads all year long. I think we need to remember that the blackcats are for real. I would love to see them bring a state championship to the moutains. They are human, they bleed like we do, they hurt like we do, and anyone is capable of beating anyone on any given night. "That's why they play the game". <--Chris Berman ESPN

P'Burg has a great chance at making a push, Cranyon and Sester and good talents that compliment each other, and last years backup QB looked to have a good skill set.
If they can add some depth and some wrinkles in their playbook they should be alright and ready to make a run.
Last year i watched the blackcats play Morgan co. and the game was just 14-0, at halftime and P'burg scored with like 30 seconds to go, and morgan only won one game last year.
Their offense was so simple it seemed like morgan new what they were gonna do..if they can fix this problem than they have the talent to be sitting in louisville this fall

That was because Prestonsburg didn't prepare for Morgan County at all. They went in to just run they're basic offensive plays and the players had a mindset that the Cougars were going to lay down and let Prestonsburg do whatever they wanted to them. 3rd quarter comes along and Prestonsburg scores 34 consecutive points in the 3rd quarter alone.
Cougar,
Prestonsburg lost 3 on offense and 4 on defense, they return they're entire backfield, quarterback, both wide receivers, and 3 offensive linemen. Prestonsburg also added former Paintsville head & assistant coach, Jim Tom Allen & Joe Chirico.

I do have to agree with the playbook. If Prestonsburg wants to make it to state, they have to run something different. I could sit at home with my radio on and guess the plays P-burg was going to run. They basically have one pass play, and that's throw it as far as you can and hope someone can come up with it. It worked well when Willis was throwing to Chris Jervis or Nick Jamerson, but these are a different breed of kids. We need more short yardage passes. Also, their running plays are fairly simple to call as well. They need to mix things up a little better, unless a certain play is working and the opponent can't stop it.

I say Fort Campbell is the team to beat
Metcalfe lost LOTS of talent and with the new realignment they will have to get past Danville, Bardstown, Green Co., and Glasgow to win the Region and all teams bring back more talent than Metcalfe.
How much talent does Louisville Christian how coming back they played Desales close twice last year

That is why you play the game. You don't win games on paper, not even in high school. Prestonsburg will get out of district play but not much further. Who knows, their coach may not prepare for somebody.

I think Pburg will at least be a state semi finalist. They can make it to the state championship, but they have to want it.

We play Metcalfe Co. next Friday in Week 2. I'll let you all know how they are. They are usually a pretty solid team year in and year out though.

Metcalfe only returns 2 defensive starters, and 2 offensive starters from last years team.

Prestonsburg has the team to get to state this year, but the Blackcats lack depth at nearly all positions. Most of the backups are sophomores and freshman so if someone goes down expect an underclassmen to step in.

If Prestonsburg stays healthy the sky in the limit. If they are going to get to Papa Johns they got to get across that hurdle. Then if they do get across it they will have to take on an excellent FT. Campbell team which will mostly like be back at state finals again.

Agreed...
Coach Derossett needs to figure out some way of getting more boys interested in playing. Each of the scrimmages I've gone to I've noticed a number of good sized young men in the Blackcat student section. These students could help the depth issue a lot.
Perhaps Coach Chirico could be effective in helping with this. I know he was a big factor in getting boys out at Paintsville. P-ville is 1/2 the size of P-burg, yet the Tigers always had ~30 players out for the team.

I'd like to see P-burg win it.

I realize that the regular season games get a lot of publicity, but it is the playoffs that really matter and I am very interested to see who rises to the top. Which District will Green County play in the playoffs?
