Highlands cannon article

Thank you for the link. I feel that the right people are in charge of making this decision and that the Cannon will remain a symbol for that program. It does appear that it is an isolated incident and that safety is foremost in the procedures of its use.

From what I've heard it may have boomed for the last time. It might be kept around as a touchstone, but it sounds as if the insurer had already made the decision before the accident. Sad day in Ft. Thomas, but tradition isn't worth someone being injured.

I disagree with the whole injured stance based on the years of safe operation. The insurer, well i am certain that someone is wiling to stake them.

I would disagree. I would think that the insurance for the school canons is done. If you are not aware, the gentleman, conducting a routine firing of the canon at he HHS pep rally sustained injuries that will diasble him for life. He is not expected to return from Shriners hospital until sometime next year. I expect that the Canon will no longer fire again.

Are you serious? You obviously don't know anything about the situation. He isn't even in Shriner's. Honestly, I can't understand why anyone really cares weather the cannon comes or goes, what is important is someone has been injured and everyones concerns should be focused on his recovery.

I'm sorry, but I would have a little better knowledge about the facts. His recovery has been addressed in a different thread, which makes it certainly appropriate to discuss the canon both at HHS and other schools. It is appreciated for all the thoughts and prayers from everyone and I appreciate our steadfastness about this. I believe others care about the canon's safety, which is extremely valid.

OK, You can go to Shriners if you want, but just got back from visiting him and it wasn't at Shriners. You are correct in schools insurance will not be allowing cannons. Most of that began with the Scott County incident. All cannons at schools were on the way out sooner or later. Just happened sooner.

Our thoughts and prayers for Steve as he comes home today. They have saved two fingers and there is a potential to rebuild a thumb. Please keep him in your prayers in his recovery.

It's very good news to hear that he is coming home.
