You know, one theory about the Pug's origin is that they are short-haired versions of Pekingese.

Per http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/pug.htm

One of the older breeds, the Pug is believed to have originated before 400 BC in Asia. There is somewhat of a debate over the origin of the Pug. Some experts think it came from the Lowlands, brought back from the Far East by Dutch traders. It is possibly of Oriental stock, descended from a short-haired Pekingese, but another theory is, it is the result of crossing a small Bulldog. Yet another school of thought is that it is a miniature form of the rare French Mastiff called Dogue de Bordeaux.

Per http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/pekingese.htm

Pekingese were regarded as manifestation of the legendary Foo Dog that drove away spirits. They were venerated as semi-divine by the Chinese. Commoners had to bow to them; you were punished by death if you stole one, and when an emperor died, his Pekingese were sacrificed so that they could go with him to give protection in the afterlife.

Thanks for the information. I had heard they were bred for Chinese royalty.

I do know they are STUBBORN. But they certainly look like your dogs if I were to shave them.

Do pugs have the same breathing issues that Pekes have?

They often have breathing problems, catch colds easily, and are prone to allergies. They also wheeze and snore when they sleep.

If they get overheated they can sometimes do a reverse sneeze (the only way to describe it).

The worst health problem is Pug Dog Encephalitis which is inflammation of the brain that always leads to death. The cause of PDE is unknown but usually affects pugs between 2 and 3 years old.

They are pretty stubborn and hard to housetrain. The 15 year old still has occasional problems going in the house.

So by your description the dogs are exactly the same except for looks.

Mine snore horribly and Gidget, the white one, will lay across the AC vents in the summer to keep cool. Baby on the other hand is terrified of the vents. If we are playing with her toy and I throw it on a vent she won't even go get it. She waits till Gidget grabs it then takes it away from her.

No.. the only time she acts crazy is when she has a toy. She will growl like crazy but she won't bite. She barks at people who walk up to the door but once they come in she's cool with them.. Overall she is the most gentle dog out of the three we got.. She loves to be loved on by anyone.

Actually all three of our dogs are very gentle, but pax (the grey yorkie) is the most aggrivating. He won't let anyone have their personal space lol.
