Best President Ever?
#1
It's been a long time since we've had this discussion so have it. Who do you think is the best President(s) in American History to date?

Richard Nixon. Forget Watergate. If Nixon was a media darling like Clinton, Watergate would have been a footnote in the door of politics (like Whitewater). Under Nixon, the economy was better after LBJ, the federal deficit was decreased, the poor was taken better care of, unemployment was down, and oh yeah, under him the Vietnam War came to a halt.

I actually agree with you on most of this. Take out the Watergate scandal and Nixon may be considered one of the best Presidents. His foreign policy (detente) however was his strongest asset in my opinion.

His travels to China and the Soviet Union brought about relaxed tensions in the Cold War.

His main negative aspects of the Vietnam War was that he was secretly bombing Cambodia and Laos where the North Vietnamese were setting up strategic positions.

The Vietnam War did come to a halt under him, but the US did not complete the primary purpose which was to contain communism, and that could perhaps be blamed on the Nixon Doctrine, but then again in my opinion there was no easy way out of Vietnam, as we shouldn't have been there in the first place.

But you're right, Nixon is not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. Just paranoid.

I'm personally going to go with the obvious best in George Washington, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and FDR. I also think that Woodrow Wilson is one of the best this country as had.

FDR is BY far the GOAT of Presidents!

George Washington. Could have made himself dictator. Set precedent fro peaceful transfer of power.
#13
Reagan

gotta go with FDR because of my U.S. History teacher Ms. Mercer, and George Washington only cause he was the first.

I would also have to say George W. Bush despite having the lowest approval rating in recent memory got re-elected........haha you have to love america

He didn't have a son, and supposedly couldn't have children, so that could be one of the main reasons he did not choose a dictatorship. It is also one of the main reasons he was chosen as the first President.

FDR - and honestly, not even a close second. Franklin Delano Roosevelt is arguably the best president in American History. His views on the world were one not matched by others and his ideologies of races and freedom are only left to be improved by even recent standards.

His views of America were not to divide but to bring together the American people during the Great Depression and the Second World War. During FDR's reign's, he truly Rebuilt a nation. We have the transportation infrastructure today as a result of FDR.

Beloved by Democrats and Independents, demonized by Republicans, FDR is nonetheless the only President to be elected to more than two terms, and saw the country through the Great Depression while deciding it was better to intervene and keep tens of thousands, or even millions, from starving to death rather than let the markets that caused the Depression simply "take their course." FDR founded the TVA, helping to bring the South (still being punished for the Civil War) into the 20th century, created Social Security to prevent severe or life threatening poverty among the elderly, and had the first form of welfare - one in which people worked to build roads and national parks to earn money.

FDR's WPA program, in fact, employed some 3.3 million people who were set to work on tasks that gave America lasting improvements. In 8 years the WPA built 40,000 buildings, 8,000 schools, built or improved 650,000 miles of roads, 124,000 bridges, 8,000 parks, 18,000 playgrounds, and over 2,000 swimming pools. This program was later referred to by President Ronald Regan as one of the best and most successful government social programs in history. Oh, yeah, they also built New York's La Guardia Airport.

He also repealed Prohibition, and brought America's industrial strength to full force before entering World War II and becoming a world power, although there was that shameful attempt to pack the Supreme Court.

Bill Clinton gets a "job" in the Oval Office.
Richard Nixon initiates the "Saturday Night Massacre" in that same office.
Which one threatens the United States Constitution?
Careful...

Tell me how the "Whitewater Scandal" is any different than the "Watergate Scandal" when it comes to the point you are trying to fabricate?

And don't forget, Travelgate, Filegate, and the untimely(Confusedhh: ) death of Vince Foster, under the Clintons. There were more gates under clinton than there are pearly gates in heaven!!!!! So cavemaster you tell us who thought the presidency was above the law............
#25
Because Nixon was an old Republican that didnt suck up to the media. Clinton was a media darling. Thats the difference, and its sickening. So be prepared to: 1/be called Homer Pub, 2/ hear some stupid story about a horse getting caught in a bear trap trying to walk on water, 3/ never getting a clear answer to this question.

4) LBJ- Passed the Civil Rights legislation and put an end to Jim Crowe.

Yadda, yadda yadda. And Clinton thought that getting any woman pregnant was a sign to celebration, as long as he was the donor that is
