Looks good, although I believe North Laurel is a little over rated. I would have Pburg in the top 3 based on their strength of schedule too.

Looks good nice to see LC get in there.

This had been a very odd year if i have to say so myself.

Breathitt went from 1st to out with 2 losses by a total of 7 pts? No Belfry? I'm not a buyer...

WYMT made a big deal about Belfry being 1-2. Well, they have lost two games to two good teams by 9 points and Breathitt as you said lost by 7 to two good teams. WYMT has a history of getting on some team's bandwagons, like the upstart North Laurel. When the dust clears, we will see who is still standing and who is practicing basketball.

This looks good now but a few weeks later it will have Breathitt and Belfry both back in it...IMO

Looks okay for this time of year. But when the year is winding down Breathitt and Belfrey will be there near the top.

Does anyone honestly not think Breathett is a top 10 team?

Not saying they shouldn't but I will tell you after they play Perry Central. They have been beaten by 2 Mountains teams and there only win was against Mercer Co. I thinkin the Sheldon Clark loss has and will haunt them. If SC would had beaten Lawrence Co it would had been a good loss but they lost to them.

Whats that suppose to mean about Lawrence County? You havent seen LC play this year im assuming! Lawrence County is for real this year

I agree with some of these ranking but come on???
who really thinks that Belfry and Breathitt arnt top 10 teams, do the WYMT people really believe that North Larual, Somerset, and Rockcasle could beat Breathitt??
North hasnt beat a team with multiple wins
Rockcastle is 1-1, and the team they beat "wayne co" is 0-3
Somerset also hasnt beaten a team with more than 1 win.
I believe that WYMT is putting these guys in the top 10 to boast ratings, all three are in the same area, far west for the mountains, and barely in coverage area.

I didnt say Lawrence Co wasnt good. I said if SC had beaten LC it would had helped Breathitt Co with that loss but they didnt. I think SC is ranked in 3A and so is Lawrence now @ #10 in 4A. I should get to watch LC play this year but it wont happent until they play Bell Co for Region Championship. Would that game be at Bell Co or Lawrence Co?

LC went to Bell in the 1st rd last year so i would assume it would go by seeding.

As of this week this Top 10 looks accurate to me..just having a hard time not seeing the "usual suspects" on here etc....Breathitt, Belfry

Just nice for Lawrence to be back in the discussion again.

Kinda funny how Prestonsburg beats Breathitt by 1 point and they are ranked so high as compared to the Bobcats. They obviously are not that much better, if at all if you really study what happened in that game. If anything, Breathitt and Prestonsburg are one above the other. These rankings are meaningless and the people who put them together are clueless IMO. Go by what the popular sentiment is at the moment.

Bull,
I think your correct. I've never cared much for polls especially in high school.

The fact that Breathitt & Belfry aren't on the top 10, when they lose to really good teams, adds on to the mediocrity of the mountain top 10.
Those two teams could beat 4/5 of the teams on here on an average night.

I agree with a lot of you. This poll has been very awkward lately. One thing I think gets lost is when some talk about "down the road" or "we'll see when the post-season rolls around"...you have to remember this is an at the moment poll. Do I think Breathitt or Belfry would beat North Laurel? Sure I do, but Belfry and Breathitt are also 1-2 with North beating two teams ranked in the top 10 of their respective classes at the time of those games. We do nothing to "boost ratings" for TV. We do not jump on bandwagons, but you to reward those who win and drop those who lose. I guarantee within 2-3 weeks the rankings will be back to what most expect. NO ONE COULD HAVE IMAGINED ALL OF THE UPSETS WE HAVE HAD. Polls are a what have you done for me right now type of situation, not what will you do for me down the road. What are the odds Belfry starts 1-4? Do you think the Pirates will lose to LCC and Whitley?

Exactly..thats why I said " as of right now " this Top 10 looks accurate.

Bell #1 for sure..Will be for the remainder of the season...:1:

As of right now, this poll looks accurate. However, with that being said, in all honesty, polls don't really matter in high school. They provide us with a topic to discuss and argue over and it's really entertaining to defend your school and make cases for this school or that school. Like Milam said, Belfry may very well start the season 1-4 with Letcher and Whitley coming up, and I don't believe anybody could have predicted that. BUT, that doesn't mean they aren't a top team in their respective class. By the time the post season rolls around Belfry will have been well tested and ready to go. Unlike college football, polls and rankings in high school don't mean a thing. Yes, I read them and follow who is ranked where, but I do so just to argue with friends and have some info for when the topic arises. Let's just have fun with them, people. In the end, the best teams will show up, and we will have had some great conversations in watching these teams play.

The only spot that I could see breathitt having in the top 10 would be 10th because the #9 team sheldon clark shut breathitt out. So theres no way you could put them ahead of SC. You can't just put an unproven team in the top ten because you think they will be good by seasons end.
09-08-2009, 11:33 PM
Looks good to me at this point in the season. You can't put a team in there based on speculation, a name or on potential alone. Right now Breathitt and Belfry aren't playing well. I think Belfry will pull it together by the end of the season though. I'm just not impressed with Breathitt. Another team that will come one strong come playoff time is JC.
09-08-2009, 11:52 PM
Alright.. I thought for sure Prestonsburg would be ahead of Corbin this week, and Breathitt not in the top 10?? Is this serious?
