There has been so much talk about certain teams moving up and down classes, I was wondering if there is confirmation about teams in 2011 being moved up or down and class. Would love to see documentation, and a lot of discussion about this.

I believe Shelby Co will be moving to 4 or 5A. I believe it is 4A. It was in an article in the Sentinel News I believe. Shelby Co was 6A but a new HS will open up next year splitting the county in half. I believe the article said that both Martha Layne Collins and Shelby Co will be 4A schools.
If the school board does things the right way MLC will have one heck of a program very quickly.

it will be based on the average 2 years male enrollment for this school year and next so no teams knows if they will be moving to any class yet.

except those that know that half their male enrollment is going some place else.
Also I though I heard this is the last year for Lone Oak. Are they combining with another school?

I heard the Ashland was going 4a, but didn't know if that was true.

Whenever the new McCracken Co. consolidated high school is built (2011-2012), it will be 6A with Reidland, Heath and Lone Oak, assuming the current class system stays in place. I am hard pressed to see how that will be a positive in football. Lone Oak will not be picking up that many quality football players from the other two schools, and they will be competing at a tougher level. Tilghman for now will continue in 3A as an independent and will probably remain a separate school even if there is a merger down the road.

Do you know how the county will be split, such as east/west north/south? Which part of the county has the best athletes?
Do you know anything about what school next years seniors will be choosing since they are allowed to choose their school. I believe if they choose to stay at Shelby Co., they could be a special team next year in 4A.

As for Ashland they along with JC had tried to get in 4A prior to this past season due to geographic locations of the rest of the district. Lawrence County will possibly be going back to 3a but it is way to early to tell.

The school will be split according to its MS alignments. The MS are named East and West but it is more along the lines of north and south. If I had to guess I would say most of the Jr would stay at Shelby Co. Shelby did start a couple of Soph that should end up at MLC.
West typically has the better talent. A majority of the starters for Shelby Co over the past 20+ years or so have come from West Middle School. I can not stress it enough if they get the right coach in there from the beginning MLC could be a top tier program very quickly.
Now I would not be surprised if a few players get a little creative with their home address to be able to stay at Shelby Co next year. They could end up being a very special team next year. After tnext years run any body that used an address to play to make that run will more than likely go to MLC.

I've heard talks of both Highlands and Covcath being Re-alligned to 4A. Highlands is currently a 3A school playing up to 5A competition while Covcath is 4A playing up to 5A competition. Nothing is set in concrete though. I believe the Ft. Thomas elementary schools are starting to go over their capacity and a new one is being built so it very well may be that Highlands stay in 5A since a drop to 4A would only be for maybe 2 or 3 years.

What is Highlands male enrollment and the 4A cut off?

I'm sure he did. Wonder why? lol

yeah i actually asked for a chart of what it took to get in each class 1a-6a and he gave me a garbage response and dodged my main question.

i find it abit crazy i can go to all these other athletic associations sites and find out exactly what average number of male students for 2 years or total students it takes to get in each class how ever they do it. This info in no where to be found on khsaa's site.

You'll never get a straight answer or reason out of them. That's common knowledge and I know that you are more than aware of that fact.

I remember many moons ago in HS seeing the complete state breakdown. Our coaches had it and it listed the enrollment (at that time it was not based on male only) and the cutoffs. That is crazy that you cannot just look up how the numbers are used to breakup the classes. Why would that be super spy material?

Because then they wouldn't be able to place teams where they want them to be.

It will be real interesting to see how the alignments pan out for 2011 season.

A new school is being built to replace the old one that is being torn down, so this is not increasing the number of students in Ft. Thomas. There is very little land to build new homes in Fort Thomas, so the numbers will go up and down very little.

How they did it was the Biggest 40 or so schools where 6a then the next biggest 40 where 5a so on and so forth with everyone else left in 1a.

I'm thinking about actually calling them up and seeing what kind of excuse they give then.

The numbers are there... you just have to know where/how to look.
In the blue shaded area is "enrollment reports".
The link for "by size" doesn't work because of a typo.
When you open it and get the error page, go to the address bar and change the 2nd 2008 to 2009.
They don't show exactly where the break-points are, but the list is 6 pages plus 9 schools long, so each page is basically 1 class.
It also doesn't give the date that the numbers were taken on, which I'm used to VA doing.

You cam go to the alignment page and count the numer of schools in each class to find the exact break-points.

Shelby County and Martha Layne Collins will both be in 4A District 4 with Bullitt East, LaRue County, Marion County and North Bullitt.

What does that do with the rest of the alignment?

looking at this years enrollment and computing the split of Shelby County, the consolidation of McCracken county schools and the new South Warren school this what i came up with for the southeastern part of the state.

I believe that they should go on talent level because there is no way that louisville central should be in 3A.
