Jason Smith hired as Clay County baseball coach
#1
This was announced in the paper Wednesday. Great hire by the school. He is young and is very knowledgeable of the game. It was nice to get him before someone else did. I think this keeps Clay as the favorite in the 13th, and in the long run it could make them better. On another note all of the returning players are going to be on the field in the spring. Any other thoughts on the hire or the Tigers?

What experience level does he have. Turest me, someone coming in with no experience of head coaching a Varsity program is no cupcake. Don't have too high of expectations. Everyone forgets about the political business that HS head coaching is. If it was just coaching on the field, you would have lots of great coaches, but now this young man is responsible for a $15,000 BUSINESS! If he has no experience, he has no idea what he just got himself into. Being an assistant gives you zero experience of being a head coach, it will be trial by fire. TRUST ME!

I understand what you're saying, but at the same time you have to realize that everyone will have Jason's back. The problems are less if the coach has the support of the community AND his players. That's two things that Coach Smith will have.

I hope that the support is enough, but that still does not offset the fact that it's not just coaching baseball, it's the business of a baseball team that succumbs young coaches with no experience. Purchase req's, school rules and policies, budgeting, funding, and State rules (not even baseball related), can be overwhelming to a first time coach.
