State Championship Rings a Shame!
#1
I have spoke with a Boyle County player and while I was talking with him I noticed no ring on his finger, I asked him where his ring was and he said that they had not raised enough money yet. I think that this is a disgrace and that the state of Kentucky should be supplying these boys their rings, after all they are just kids and deserve to carry something like this for the rest of their lives. What do you think?
#2
Somehow, I do not think the state government has high school football rings high on their list of priorities. Rings and other rewards should be left to the individual schools.

Boyle should have plenty of money. They have some rich alums. One is playing in the NFL and one is a country music singer. State has nothing to do with it what a good problem to have.

There should be no reason not to get rings. Boosters need to do some fund raising. What is that going to do to the ones that come back and no ring.

My Priorities are:
1)God
2)Family
3)Cougar Athletics!

Everything else doesn't matter!

This is not the states responsiblliy. Why in the world should the state pay for EVERYONE who wins a state championship to have a ring? That would be thousands of rings
#6
IMO it should be up to the school and community to raise the funds for the rings.
#7
I'm sure if there were just ONE STATE CHAMP, and not a watered down 6 of them, the state could come up with funds for them, but when you have 6 state champs, which is stupid, there is no way they can do something like that. The school should be able to take care of this cost with boosters and fundraisers with no problem.

don't forget all the other sports as well a male and female sports

Boyle Co. has one of the biggest and richest booster clubs in the state. They have a coaching and support staff of probably 30+ people. These people tried to go after Guy Morris to coach so its no telling how much money they have in the quarterback club.

NOT TRUE! Rings are in and are waiting for the cheerleader's necklaces to come in. The Ceremony is on April 18th. Again NOT TRUE!

Here is the design of the ring.

Your are correct there is a cermony on April the 18th. But I spoke with this kid three weeks ago and as of then there was not enough money; this coming from a very very reliable source. It came from the horses mouth not a rumor; if this kid didn't have his state championship ring then know one should on that team. Just saying that it is a same and that kids shouldn't be in jeopardy of not getting a ring due to financial measures.

i wouldn't want to waste my tax money on a ring for a team that i didnt play for. that from a player view

As of three weeks ago there was not enough money raised yet. But they were very, very close and I am pretty sure they now have enough. As Rebel55 said the rings are finished but some pendants were not. That is why the ceremony was delayed. No other reason.

Another thing I would like to say is that the Boyle County Quarterback Club is not wealthy. There have been many cutbacks the last couple of years and it is very difficult to raise money in this depressed economy. The county has been hit especially hard by job losses at several factories. We have sold everything from posters to hoodies to donughts. There have been donations from many local merchants and individuals and it could not have been accomplished without a total community effort. All of these young men will have their rings in a couple of weeks. If many of you remember it being discussed throughout the year in various threads this team was very large with around 100 players. That's a lot of rings.

As a side note it is a shame that it has been such a struggle to pay for the rings and anyone who reads this thread is more than welcome to contribute to the ring fund. Private message me and I will be happy to see that you get a reciept for your taxes. LOL

Plus I should add that the parents and quarterback club members in no way see this as a burden. We are happy to sell and work to pay for these rings and realize it is the best "problem" a booster club can have. We feel blessed.

I believe over 140 rings where ordered in early January and Every kid on the team has one on order. Three weeks ago they where almost finished.

Right now, no one on the team has their ring. Listen I'm glad you are concerned about our program. I'll be sure to come back after the 18th. and make a post to let everyone know that there is no reason to shame us here in Titletown.

This is coming from an outsider with his own opinion. I'm a Bell Co. fan so I have no knowledge about any of this but I cannot imagine that some would have rings while others do not. I think it's safe to say this is not happening at Boyle Co. For that matter, any other school. It's difficult to come up with the necessary funds to pay for these rings. But, I'm sure that it's an honor for each of the members to help in raising the funds in order to provide those boys with the rings they attained by winning the state title. Give these people the credit they deserve for doing whatever they can to help. Good job guys. It's something those boys will cherish the rest of their lives.

If Boyle can't afford them, I hate to see how other schools raises the money. We can send some bingo money if you will send us a recruit or two.. Just kidding.. I have great respect for the REBELS.

One of the Whitley Co. coaches told me that the bingo money had almost dried up for them and they were having a hard time getting money from the boosters.

Do all schools pay for their title rings? We have to pay for ours ourselves.

Not a chance. We are cutting funds from schools who need computers and can't afford the technology needed to educate our kids! MY tax dollars should NEVER be used for awards...**** I got a pot hole the size of Texas on my road that isn't fixed yet!!

Parents and boosters need to step up, kids need to get out there and fundraise too. Your hard work won you a championship, now you need to find a way to pay for your ring

Not really concerned with your program, I think that it is great and an awesome accomplishment to win a state title. I just ran into the Kid that I have known his whole life, and the question came up with his answer. I was using you more as a reference to all the kids across Kentucky. I just thought that he would defiantly know since he was the main reason they won the state championship; by bad for putting what an 18 year old kid said on a message board. Not shaming you at all, everybody is in the same boat. I was just wondering if a school as small as some across the state have this problem and it would be a shame to not be rewarded properly. So don't assume that I am bashing Boyle County; just more of an example.

Your quote above:
1. I have spoke with a Boyle County player.

2. I asked him where his ring was and he said that they had not raised enough money yet. I think that this is a disgrace

3. if this kid didn't have his state championship ring then know one should on that team.

4. The Title of the Thread is State Championship Rings A Shame

By reading your quotes above, how would someone else assume that you are not bashing Boyle County with false information.

I'm not on this site to stir the pot or act like a jerk, but I will defend my school on information that I feel is in-correct and false. If you meant to talk about the schools across the state you should have said "I was just wondering if a school as small as some across the state have this problem and it would be a shame to not be rewarded properly" in your first couple of post.

And another thing, this one person was not the main reason Boyle won the State Title. Boyle County plays as a team and wins as a team. I am 99% sure as to who you talked to, and yes he played a great great game, but Boyle did not win on his performance only. Their was a fieldgoal kicked by a player, a blocked punt by another player, we had a player rush for 190 yards, there was a player that had 11 tackles, we had players with touchdown receptions. The main reason Boyle beat Lone Oak was because they play as a team and not 1 player.

Please call your source on the 19th. and I guarentee that he has a ring on his finger. (if the ceremony date has not changed and moved back)

I cannot speak for all of the small schools in the state.

I can only speak for Russell which was AA in 05 when they won their championship. The boosters came together and started fundraising hard and heavy. We had many booster parents that wanted to order the rings and take a chance that we had the money when they were ready. Had a few that said no way we will order when we have the funds all together.

I can tell you what happened. The athletic director Mr. Sam Sparks came to our booster meeting and told everyone that the rings were ordered and if we didn't have the funds when they came in that he hoped his credit card had enough room on it to cover them.

I have the utmost respect for that man.

That being said I hope that the money is raised and everyone gets their rings before graduation so the entire community can come and see them and help them celebrate some more.

Tilghman's players got their individualized rings Friday. They are hugely gaudy/sparkly and way, way over the top. I do not know where the funds came from. I suspect some alumni chipped in.

The boys will get their rings on the 18th and I can assure you the boosters have worked their butts off! We do bingo every Tuesday night on top of donut sales, raffles, whatever it takes. This whole community has supported us either by buying, donating or just writing a check. Have we struggled? Absolutely, in this economy, who hasnt? Its a great honor and a challenge Im sure any community would be glad to have! The price of metals have went through the roof and I can assure you these beautiful personnalized rings didnt come cheap. We had to wait for some pendants to come in, not because we didnt pay for them, because the company didnt have them finished. I am excited to watch these boys get their rings and to start another great Rebel Season and to hopefully see another state championship in our future!
