One sign of better economic times is when more people start finding jobs. Another is when they feel confident enough to quit them.
More people quit their jobs in the past three months than were laid off, a sharp reversal after 15 straight months in which layoffs exceeded voluntary departures. The trend suggests the job market is finally thawing.
Some of the quitters are leaving for new jobs. Others have no firm offers. But their newfound confidence about landing work is itself evidence of more hiring and a strengthening economy.
"There is a century's worth of evidence that bears out this view that quits rise and layoffs fall as the job market improves," said Steven Davis, an economist at the University of Chicago.

Obama's plan is working if is plan is to destroy the private sector. Anybody who quits a good job in this economy and thinks that they will have an easy time finding another good job is insane. Some companies are even advertising that unemployed people need not apply for the jobs that they advertise. There has been nothing in the news to give employees any confidence that they can simply quit and step into a new job.

I guess a "hundred years of evidence", and the fact that the economist say the same, doesn't know more than the almighty Hoot?

Hoot trusts his eyes more than any single University of Chicago economist. I have a lot of recent first hand experience job hunting and I have done quite a bit of traveling the past two months. The only area that I have visited recently where the local economy was not visibly suffering from Obamanomics is the DC metro area, which is where I now work.

The explosive growth of the federal government under the Obama regime has made areas like the DC suburbs recession-proof...for now.

No matter how often Obama and his minions claim that good times are just around the corner between now and the November elections, just take a look around for yourself. Look for things to go (further) south in a hurry when the temporary census workers are no longer needed. Obama is not qualified to run a hot dog stand.

Retail sales in May plunge by largest amount in 8 months, raising worries about recovery

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Retail sales plunged in May by the largest amount in eight months as consumers slashed spending on everything from cars to clothing. The big drop raises new worries about the durability of the economic recovery.

The Commerce Department says that spending fell 1.2 percent last month. Auto sales were down 1.7 percent but there was weakness in a number of areas. Excluding autos, sales fell 1.1 percent.

It's time to let the Republicans run things. They promise that they won't trash the place again. Smile

They won't get the chance by my vote.

Makes sense, must be why retail sales are at a 8month low, because things are getting better.

They won't need it.

The private sector hired 41,000 people and our government hired 390,000 people in May. Most of those 390,000 jobs were part time census workers who were hired for the third or fourth time, while being paid for hours they did not work and all of this being funded by the tax payer. The cost of this years census is over 300% more than the one in 2000. Sounds like better times to me.

How many or those quitting their jobs are going to another job and how many are collecting 99 weeks of unemployment?

^ and you would expected anything different had McCain and Palin Elected? The economy is where it is at because of short term fixes of past governments. You cant blame the new administration for being handed a economic disaster, and then telling them to fix it or take the blame.

When should the blame fall on Barry and his crew? After all they have been in office for nearly 18 months and have been given a pass on everything else why not this too. I give you credit for one thing at least you noted that it was the fault of "past governments" and not just Bush.
