Why is High School Football So Great?
#1
With the way a lot of us get so excited and crazy on here, I just wondered what makes us Crazy?
#2
No idea..I can't really explain why I love it. I played but it's so much more than that.

It's the rush!....we get a small town version of the Colosseum every friday night!...To watch a battle no matter how big or small!...They push themselves to the brink for victory!......through the elements!...Heat!...Rain!...Mud!...Cold!...and Snow!

They are soldiers!

Their weapon?....their own strength, speed, and endurance!

Relying on their leaders wisdom to guide them to a win!

Encouraged and enraged by the screams of the crowd!
I love this game!

Because in high school you play for the Love Of The Game and no matter how good or bad a player is, you know that when he puts the shoulder pads on and comes out on the field on friday nights that he is going to give it everything that he's got to help his team get the victory!

Because its the only thing in this world that people will always go to and enjoy on Friday nights.
When the week is over and Friday afternoon rolls around, the anticipation that has gathered for the whole week, or maybe the whole year, comes to life for 2 short hours. It's something the community, parents, students, and everyone else can share in common and cheer for and agree on.
As a player, you will only get the opportunity to play high school football for four years, no matter what, that's it, and for some players that could only be 40 games.
All that hard work, weightlifting, two a days, conditioning, for 40 games and around 80 hours, and i have worked more than that in a week.
Once your gone, your gone, that stardom, that prestige, that Letterman, there all gone. You could have been the best to ever come threw last year, but a year after you played your last game, there's a knew kid in town who everybody's talking about. Eventually you might get to see your own son in the same shoes you were in not long ago.
You form bonds that will last forever, and brothers who will always be a call away.

To put it simply, we love this game, this culture, and the moment were in.
To all current players i encourage you to soak up every last minute of this unforgettable experience,i was still going 100% on the very last play of my senior year and wouldn't change a thing about it. One of these days, like it or not, you're going to only be talking about it, preferably on bluegrassrivals with the rest of us, and the closest you will be able to get to a game is the bleachers watching where you once was.

Good luck to all the seniors this year, but not only in football, but in life, because all kinds of new opportunities and doors are about to open for you, and high school football will only be a memory, but it will be the best memory you have.

LOSERS QUIT WHEN THEY'RE TIRED, WINNERS QUIT WHEN THEY HAVE WON

Being under those lights on Fridays, playing beside guys that become your family, upsetting a higher ranked opponent, bragging rights, playing in front of your peers, pep rallies, cheerleaders, working all off-season in the weight room, 40 guys with the same goal, the memories last a life time, the smell of the locker room, the feeling you get after a huge win, the butterflies before the game, the lords prayer, the speech, the moment when you just can't help but scream to the top of your lungs, the first hit, letter men jackets, the passion and love for a game, 2 a days, football camp, being the big dog of the school, the sound of buckling a helmet, and the sound of cleats before you hit the field. Also the emotions that come along with it such as accomplishment, defeat, pain, anger, happiness, and seeing everything you worked for in the past year pay off. Then the life lessons you learn in football. You learn to never give up, you learn that if you want something you have to work for it, and you learn to become a man( had a coach who always told us something similar to that).
Now, I played football since 3rd grade, and boy do I miss it. When I look back at my years I wish I would've listened to the people who said cherish this its the best years of your life, and they will be gone before you know it. I would've never slacked off in a practice or dreaded lifting that day. I would do everything 110%, and just thought how much fun it was at the time.
If any high school player read this remember live it up, cherish it, and play your heart out no matter what game, practice, or scrimmage. The worst feeling in the world is when you have graduated, and not playing anymore, and you go back to a game see them playing without you then you think man I should have done this in that game or at practice.
You may not take that advice, but trust me you'll realize what I mean one day.

 Yup, i looked at my coach like a father, that's another thing that's hard to do is leave a man that has been in your face every day for four years and made a man out of ya.
I don't think anybody forgets their last pep talk.

I always liked Truck for a football name.

Sweet, you know that if he was a big full back, the radio guys would say truck keeps on trucking 50 times a game.
We all definitely gotta come up with names that can easily be used with analogies during games for our future children haha.

You are not alone.:Sad04: I still haven't got over the fact that I won't play again. What makes it worse is I had the chance to play at a D3 school, but I had to turn down the offer because of a prior injury.

With the playoffs starting, this makes everything even that more important, because its win or go home. Some players know there going home sometimes or think they will and have time to really think about that during their last game, it makes you think about a lot of things during that last game, a lot of memories pop up all over the place and a lot of things start running threw your mind about whats going to happen next.
Like all of you i wish i could do it again tomorrow, id go threw 2 years of three a days to play one more time.
The last time i played, which was an away game, i got back to the school that night and just sat there, prolly for an hour and remembered stuff that i hadn't even thought about that was funny or bad and just laughed a little bit to myself and got in my truck and drove for a couple of hours with a couple of senior teammates talking about everything before heading home. The next day i woke up and seriously wondered if it was worth it, i never won a district championship, never had a 10-0 season, or made all state, but it was, it was worth every single minute, you cant replace those memories with anything else.
Best part is, i get to talk about it now, and if i hadnt played i wouldnt have anything to say.

Same here, I had an opportunity to play at Bridgewater State in Massachusetts, except I let all my friends convince me to move back to Kentucky and go to college with them which I know regret and kick myself for not accepting the opportunity to continue playing the game I love!

My last night was a home game and I cried my eyes out on that field that night, and then I buried my face in my jersey, and continued to cry more it really broke my heart. I couldn't face my dad that night he was just as upset as I was me and him both balled like little girls. The memories we make as we grow up playing football are unlike any other. I would do anything to go back out on the field, snap up and just play one more play with these guys. It's just sad that it will never happen.

Mine was Greenville College in Illinois. I was really going to go even with the injury, but then I had sat down to have a serious conversation about it. That day I had to make the first major decision of my life, and that was to put the game down, and not risking hurting myself any worse then I already was.

Props to all of the football fans in the mountains. I grew up in a big city where the bleachers would always be half empty. I was blown away the first time I went to a football game in eastern KY. I just couldn't believe the atmosphere at the game and the support that everyone in all of the small towns show for their local teams. You guys truly make it special for the kids playing the game. Great kids, great fans, great sport!!!!
