Post Padding
#1
I was just wondering, when scanning through the sports scores, why so many people post comments like "Congrats"? It just seems to me that this is a violation of Rule 9. I just can't figure out what purpose those one word posts have. They add nothing to the thread.

9.Post padding will not be tolerated. Topics are there for your view pleasure but you are not required to post something in every one that you open. If you have no real opinion or knowledge on a subject, please move on to another one. Posting one word sentences like "cool" or things such as "I don't know" will be removed from the thread and will be deducted from your post count and points

Its a grey area. This rule was to keep people from constantly posting one word post in a single thread. The gen discussion forum has a couple threads specifically design for post padding.

So saying congrats to a team who u have never heard of could be considered a senseless post. But we really have other issues to worry about. And since it's not really an inconveince we won't say much about saying congrats. But it is aggravating for people who r truly interested and for that I apologozise on behalf of all who do it n

 Great post taxi. I can understand what your saying. Saying Congrats can be a stat padder, but its on the border. When people only post something like "i dont know" then it becomes more of a chat room or messenger room then a dicussion board.

Well sometimes people that talk in other forums that have a team of theirs win likes to congratulate their team. It's ok in my opinion. That rule is a grey area as said before.

I don't really see it as gray....
No sense in having a Sports Forum of you can't say congratulations to a team for winning lol

There are instances in which it seems like post-padding but other times when I use it as a way to congratulate a team and to bump a thread. Two birds with one stone Smile

This is very understandable.

^ They haven't quit, nor should they, but that is OK by me. Talking about me makes sure that they are not talking bad about others.

When I first started getting on this site all the "congrats" posts got on my nerves. Then I figured "when in Rome...". Now that I'm at 2,000 posts I don't know if I'll do it anymore because it is time consuming.

I'm not gonna lie, I use to say Congrats continues. But I didn't do it to add to my post count. And someone thought I was doing it to add to my posts. So I quit doing it all around.

What ****es me off is seeing...

"Bump"

I hate that. No reason for it. There used to be a rule for it, and I got suspended for a week a few years back because of it.

Think I argued that one

**** phone

But I think I argued that one on ur behalf vundy. Bumping a thread should not have been a rule unless the thread was completely dead and unused for an extended period. Or unless there was a renewed interest in the topic. The threads weren't closed so they should be allowed to be reopened IMO

I should add that any time I typed "congrats" I was actually interested in the thread and had read all the posts in it. I just didn't have any meaningful knowledge to add. So, in a way I don't think I was padding my posts.

Ok...I know this is a retarded question, but What is the benifit to post padding?....I really don't understand....sorry!

Filthy Animal Wrote:Ok...I know this is a retarded question, but What is the benifit to post padding?....I really don't understand....sorry!

There is none. It does not get you a free Tee Shirt or a Personal Call from the President. It irritates many, but in the whole scheme of things means absolutely nothing. This coming from someone who has logged a few posts himself:biggrin:
#23
There really is no benefit in post-padding. I could possibly understand it if there was a race to be the leading poster, but that race is a marathon that Stardust has already won, lol.

The only person that was in the same ballpark doesn't log on anymore Confusedhh:

Ahhh!....Well then!.....interesting!...I'm not in a race to be leader!...I believe my quailty of content in each post I make speaks for themselves!...:lmao:....no way would I stoop to post padding!...besides I'm just gonna hack into the program anyway and change Stardusts status to Water boy and have her start all over!....lol
