RunItUpTheGut's Ranking For The Week Of 8/28
#31
Very memorable games with Bell and Rock. I miss the competiveness of the games. Only Bell-Rock game I choose to remember though, is the 2005 comeback, last second QB sneak to win it game.

Do you get what im sayin now? lol
I know they dont play knox, however, im all for dropping Lynn Camp and playing Knox every year. Little travel time, around 30 minutes and two teams that, in todays time, are very closely talented, and would be a great game every year, instead of playing Lynn Camp every year and beating up on a 1A school every 4 out 5 years.

I see how your drawing your conclusion from how each of the teams play Whitley, and I agree that KC would be better served playing Whitley over LC. I just think Somerset is better than KC on 8/30/11. This may change in the next few weeks. I just wasn't impressed with their showing against WJ. I really see the Mt Top 10 in three tiers, with Somerset, Perry Central, Knox Central & Rockcastle Co as Tier 2.

Hopefully Russell Co will continue to win and become part of the 4A mix as well.

I can fully agree with everything you just said

The last time Bell lost to a mountain team was November 10, 2006 @ Rockcastle Co. in the second round of the playoffs 13-0.
They also lost to Rock that year on Oct. 6, 2006 @ Rock 18-14. They also lost to rock in 2005 at home 21-0.

And the most amazing stat of all is Bell County hasnt lost a game to a mountain team other than Rockcastle Co. since Sept 3, 2004 @ Prestonsburg, 27-24.
And the last time Bell lost at home to a moutain team other than that loss to Rock in 2005, was all the way back on Sept 19th, 2003 against Corbin, 24-14.

So Bell has only lost 5 games to mountain teams (3 was Rock) Since the 2002 season, where Rock beat them twice that season as well.

And since 2000 Bell has only lost to a total of 4 mountains teams. They are Rockcastle, Corbin, Prestonsburg, and Whitley County. So to say there not the king of the mountains is an understatement.

BTW, khsaa.org is my google lol.

If Russell Co beats Pulaski Next week then I would look for them to shoot up into the top 10....they have looked very good so far.

Somerset still has games @ Hazard, @breathitt, @Perry Central and Whitley in the mountains plus a game at home with a very good Glasgow team all scheduled around a district slate of Middlesboro, Lex Christian and Danville....still waaaaaaay tooooo early to worry about rankings for us.

1. Highlands- (Idle)
2. Boyle County- (21-0 Win vs. Allen County Scottsville)
3. Covington Catholic- (56-35 Win @ Dixie Heights)
4. Lexington Catholic- (47-37 Loss vs. John Hardin)
5. Rockcastle Co.- (45-8 Win @ Frankfort)
6. Western- (Idle)
7. Knox Central- (21-13 Win vs. West Jessamine)
8. Ashland Blazer- (58-12 Win vs. Raceland)
9. Lone Oak- (49-7 Win vs. Hopkinsville)
10. Johnson Central- (35-27 Loss vs. Perry Central)

Not really sure anyone deserves #2, that would mean that they were right behind Highlands and I'm affraid that gap is pretty big.

Also Rowan should be in this top 10 IMO. They are very very impressive with the ball, can run and of course throw the ball very well. Don't be fooled by the 51 points they gave up last week, D seemed to be in coast mode after going up big in the first half and it did almost cost them but D played very well early when the game was being decided.

you and me both. its not the same without this game. I wish the AD would get together a get it started back up. my favorite game between the two was in the 2005 playoffs.

RIUTG, That really makes everyone respect the history of the Rock-Bell rivalry!

I dont think many people actually knew how deep the Rock/Bell rivalry went and i dont think a lot of the newer, younger generation knew that Rock used to put it to Bell just as much as Bell did to Rock.
IMO, this may be the best rivalry of the mountains of all time. When i think rivalries in the mountains i think Rock/Bell first and how that district, along with Whitley, use to be the best district to be in. I played in that district. It was pure hell game after game with those two teams and it seemed like we'd always beat one but lose to the other and bring home district runner up every year.

But for Bell to only lose to 4 different teams in the mountains since 2000 is flat out scary.

Harlan hasn't beaten Bell since it's first year of consolidation and that's sad for Harlan. But, I can say we did beat Bell and Dudley in the first year ( '83) after consolidation. 7-0.The last season Bell played on the old field and Dudley's first season with Bell after leaving Breathitt. Bell's been way to much ever since. Just a little trivia.
#42
I played in that district as well. I really loved playing rock and bell. If you remember in 99 there was a three way tie for the district championship. We beat Bell and lost to Rock (by 1 point) but bell beat rock. That was an awesome district with a lot of very good games.

^
dang those extra points, it shoulda been ours that year:HitWall:
#44
I played in the same district with Bell and Rock for 4 years.... AND IT SUCKED. Talk about some road blocks. Everyone else in the district played for 3rd place all 4 years I was in high school. I got a lot of respect for both of those programs.
#45
These rankings are SPOT ON, OUTSTANDING job this week
#46
Being a tomcat fan we had our share of rock and bell roadblocks.

I remember in 2002 bell won by 2 points as we attempted 2,2point conversions and missed both

And the 04 comeback against rock was amazing

1 - 2 Whats up with this!!!!!! Come on Man !!!!!! lol

Also Knox struggled with WJ and Somerset smoked them But Knox still higher don't agree with that one. Hows the best way to compare is by teams played!

But other than that looks good to me!

Yeah, I completely agree! Harlan should remain at #1 until they're beaten and Somerset should be at #4!!

I played in 3 out of 4 years as we moved districts my senior year, however we never won district until we moved to 4A and won district the first year we were in 4A

I understand that the bottom half of 6A is tough to determine, but there is no way that Dixie needs to be anywhere near it. They have lost their 1st 2 games by a combined 50 points!!! Now, I know that those 2 teams are good, but 50 points!!!

Central Hardin has beat a 2A school and all of a sudden they break into the Top 10?

Bryan Station beats a very out-manned Anderson County team and then gets run over by Eastern. If you werent at the game then you dont know that Eastern was dominating BS, put their subs in and allowed BS to make it look respectable.

I would think that Lafayette could easily replace any of these 3. They embarrass a terrible Mason Co team(like they shouldve) and then lose at home to a very good Bell Co team(that you have ranked very high in 2 different polls) in a very close, competitive game that couldve gone either way. Just my opinion.
