Both teams were very good that year!

What year did the Brewer kid graduate?

2011 I believe. Brewer was very solid and so was that team! Hazard was also tough that year as well being led by a Leslie Countian at QB(Evan Whitaker). That was the year they won state, correct?

No. Hazard won 1A in 2011.

Thatâs on me. My apologies
Is that the only state championship in school history?

Hazard has 3 undefeated seasons that you/they could claim as mythical titles. 1928,1930, and 1936. Iâm not sure why they wouldnât.

I think Leslie County wouldâve won 1A in 2016 if they had played in it. They punished Danville in the first half before the VanCleave kid turned it on in the second half. Leslie also beat Whitley who was a 5A district champ pretty bad that year. They actually beat them worse than Pulaski Co did. Luke Vance had switched from receiver to RB mid way through the season and still ran for over 1,000, he wouldâve easily had 2k if he played the full season at RB. He was in my mind the most underrated player in the mountains that year. The defense for Leslie was also very good that season. They probably wouldâve won 2A had their QB not broke his ankle in week 10 making them one dimensional. Hazard also had a great team that year too.

There isnt any comparing Leslie to Hazard. Hazards program is on a whole different level. Has Hazard ever had a losing season? For years and years they have beaten about everyone in this 5A district during regular season games. The only teams from Leslie that might of beaten Hazard was when Tim and Greg Couch played.

You're going out on some pretty thin limbs here.

So you lost to Danville, the 2A Runner-Up, by 24 at home. You lost to a 4-7 South Lauel train team, at home. You lost to a 7-5 Williamsburg team (that got smoked by 25 points by Hazard in the playoffs. And you think you'd beat the team that beat
Hazard ?, Wow.

Comparing Hazard and Leslie is about like comparing UK to the New England Patriots. There is no comparison.

2013 Hazard 36-20
2014 Hazard 41-12
2015 Hazard 32-12
2016 Hazard 56-33
You just made my point! Hazard's dominance of the area started in 2013 after Breathitt's down fall. Before 2013, Breathitt won 4 out of 6 games against Hazard. I'm not saying they dominated Hazard, but they were the premiere program in the area during this time. I'm not sure if Hazard played Breathitt from 95-97, but if they did, they lost, due to Breathitt only losing one game during that time frame and winning 42 games in a row and two state championships. Overall, if I'm not mistaken, Hazard has one state title to Breathitt's three. Historically, Hazard has been playing football a lot longer than Breathitt and their tradition is unmatched in this area, but as I said before, I feel like until 2013 Breathitt was the more dominate program in this area.

When they had Richard Trent and #7 who was a running back. That team was mean! I always would get their film just so I could watch it over and over. Trent was a special athlete. Did ever go anywhere and play ball?

I think that was 2011, Trent was a Junior and #7 Will Thomas Collins was a senior. I don't think Trent ever went any where and played college ball. Collins started out at Pikeville and ended up being the starting fullback for UK during his senior season.

That blows my mind that Trent didnât go anywhere. He was one of the best athletes Iâve ever seen around here.

No offense to anyone, but how has this went from Somerset & Hazard to Hazard and everyone else in the mountains? Both of these teams should have success in the post season. Best of luck to both of them going forward!

Leslie never lost to Williamsburg they beat them. Danville wouldâve beaten anyone in 1A by 30 that year. The SL game was also a fluke as their starting RB tore his ACL and they had no running game, also thatâs the same SL team that wouldâve beat Pulaski but had a FG or PAT called back if Iâm not mistaken. Also as a program as a whole Iâm not saying Leslie County is better than Hazard. Hazard has never had a bad team. Leslie County is a team that has a good group and is good for a few years until the next group comes around. But during those years mentioned I do think Leslie had better teams than Hazard not a better program as a whole though.

On another note Breathitt County had the most dominating program by far during the years mentioned above. 3 state championships and the win streak whatever it was speaks for itself.
