Mayfield @ Caldwell County 10/30/15

missthefield Wrote:Mayfield was behind the majority of the game getting the benefit of a couple of phantom calls and was out played for most of the game, Caldwell earned those special team scores by having an excellent blocking and return game, the same weak corner hurt Caldwell again tonight only this time the game was lost on a couple of td's instead of just first downs. The Tigers gift wrapped this game for the Cardinals, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, having a two point lead with 37 seconds left and Mayfield on their own 30, extremely lucky last night to get out with a win.

I see you want to make it look like Caldwell got bad calls and Mayfield had it all there way. You conveniently omitted the fact that Dee Cain intercepted a pass in the endzone in the first half, and tried to run it out, but was tackled in the endzone. The wpsd crew doing the game is from Paducah so id say they would be less bias, and they said it was a safety, but it didn't get called, and Caldwell got to keep ball, and get it on the 20. What about the pass interference called on Mayfield when it was 4th, and 10 from Caldwell and it appeared DB hit WR simultaneous to the ball getting there. That set yall up for a FG. The best and I nominate him for MVP was Caldwells clock operater. Every 1st down Mayfield got on last drive he let an extra 3-5 seconds run off the clock before he stopped it so they can reset chains. He even let the clock run out when Mayfield spiked it, but kudos to the ref for calling them out on it, and putting the time back up on that 1, but Mayfield was robbed easily of at least 10 seconds on that last drive.

Cain never made it out of the end zone on his 2nd pick so it can't be a safety.

I agree thought the rule was if you try to advance it out and failed it was a safety, but if the rule is they have to posess the ball out of the endzone then go in endzone and get tackled I stand corrected on that one. I look at it all this way if Caldwell feels they got cheated fine, but 2 years ago down there some strange things happened that went against Mayfield in there loss. Things even out. If the officials was so for Mayfield winning I doubt they would have hit Mayfield with a few straight penalties when they had it 1st and goal from the 10. Agter a couple penalties it was 1st and goal from the 28, but somehow Mayfield didn't get rattled and scored. Its a shame ive heard a few say Caldwell gave it away, when the boys in red helmets fought so hard to come back. Cant they get some credit.

Both teams deserve credit. And no one should try to knock what they did.

And to get a safety on an int. would mean that the player exited the endzone and then when back in and got tackled as he tried to advance. Never makes it out, then it's a touchback.

Phantom calls??? We just watched the video again. Even the announcers for WPSD had a totally different take than those CC fans that have been saying this. Want to talk about bad calls watch the video. I guarantee you will see this. This TD that everyone is complaining about where Dee Cain scored and called back. Look at your right guard. He clearly jumped and even through his arms up to block when he did. Then look at the pass int that kept the drive alive for CC to score their last FG. Our safety had position hit the ball with his hands and then the reciever collided with him. That isn't pass int. Then a very obvious one on the replay is on the only offensive TD that CC scored. Kincer Arnett #4 was coming up to fill the hole and make the tackle. Your lineman, I think #54 completely wraps him in a bear hug preventing the tackle. No hold called. How does a team completely control a game and only score one touchdown and one field goal on offense?

To be clear, Mayfield was on their own 17 with 37 seconds left.

I agree. Not a safety. I think the announcers were in la la land on that one.

I'm glad we finally have some debate. Been too quiet since we came to 2a.

Caldwell County Times Leader says Mayfield had 458 yards of offense. Caldwell had 305. To me I seen what ontopofthewest was saying about passing game. Bright was back, but Arnett couldn't hit the broad side of the barn in the 1st half, except for about 3 that hit Kennemore in the hands, and he dropped. Kennemore didn't have the best game. The 2nd half was a different story or maybe I should say last 2 drives when they had to have points. Maybe it being in crunch time helped Arnett. I just hope his passing at the end of the game carries on to playoffs, this should help his confidence.

Wish you could read 1st couple paragraphs of Caldwells paper they definitely think they got robbed.
What's the word I'm searching for? Oh, Butthurt, that's it.
Mayfield was certainly lucky those last 30 seconds, but, give them credit for making a big play to put them in a position to win.. Caldwell was also lucky to have a chance for that FG that put them ahead.. They didn't make any big plays to put them in that position. They had 3 plays for 0 yards and a questionable pass interference call and then didn't move the ball after that, but, was close enough to kick the go ahead FG.. Overall, very good game by both teams.. Mayfield just made an extra play to get the win..

Just another Twinkie
Does anyone know how many yards Arnett passed for, the Paducah Sun did not give team stats
Killbilly, that is exactly what I was searching for. For some stupid reason the Paducah Sun doesn't do the stat lines and the Messenger won't be out until Monday. I felt like we were killing them on stats all night. That's why I couldn't understand the comments that they controlled the game. On our first 2 series we had more first downs than they did all of the first half. They just had the int return. I will say their defense is really good. I just didn't see much that scared me on their offensive output. The only offensive touchdown was because our defensive coordinator sent in the wrong play. He confirmed that on the radio this morning. He thought about changing it though. Then on top of that, they held the LB that was about to seal that hole. But, that's football. I'm sure the burg felt that way in December.

I just watched the video last night. In very slow mo, thanks to Mayfield Cardinal. I can tell you someone got these stats construed. I know for a fact that Kennemore had 2 receptions. Both were at least 15 yards. Also one of our coaches told Mayfield Cardinal last night after I saw the first totals that CC really only had 295 yards of total offense.
Good luck the rest of the way!!!!

I wonder who Mayfield people think is better now since they played both. Caldwell or PT.
Caldwell is certainly better than the PT that we played. However, I can tell by their recent results that PT has gotten better. The PT that we played could in no way beat Murray. The PT of now did so easily.
new sports department at the Sun, They try and cover lots of area, not just Mayfield. Heck they own the Mayfield paper.
Caldwell Co td run courtesy of another site. Also shows a bear hug by CC lineman
Amazing!!!! So much for the hometown Mayfield refs sticking it to CC. This was the only offensive touchdown and there was a ref looking right at it. This was the LB that was going to fill the hole that the RB came thru. I heard all this about the penalties coming at the right time for Mayfield to stop a score or whatever. This is the reverse of that excuse.
Another thing to consider. I saw where a CC fan said no ref from Mayfield should have been used in this game. Hummm, did we not have a Caldwell resident and graduate wearing the white hat in CC when we lost to the 2 years ago. Yes, the very same one that over ruled the other 3 refs and gave the ball back to CC after Mayfield recovered it on a kickoff with about 45 seconds left in the first half of that game. And, at that point we would have already been in fg range.

Simply put I was told by a Caldwell fan 2 years ago that there was nothing wrong with a Caldwell graduate reffing the game. Now Caldwell fans are crying hometown ref. I agree with what I seen on another site this game, and 2013 at Caldwell was the only 2 games I felt like Mayfield was getting shafted on the road. Caldwells clock man loved letting that clock run a few extra seconds everytime Mayfield got a first down. I wish Caldwell clock man would train Mayfields. Mayfield clock man fell asleep against McCracken and let the clock run an extra 10 seconds after 1 first down. Problem with that was Mayfield had the ball in the end of that game as well, and had to settle for a near 50 yarder as it costed them a play. At least Caldwells clock man knows which team to let the time drain out on.
These Mayfield vs. Caldwell, and Mayfield vs. McCracken games are sure some good games. I wonder what will happen next year. Caldwell doesn't seem to do as well when they visit War Memorial. Im still scratching my head about the game last year.
The game last year is really how the Mayfield/Caldwell games are supposed to go. If you think about how this game went, Mayfield should have won by 2 touchdowns or more. CC only scored 1 offensive touchdown. We made 3 bad plays. The first was obviously the pick 6. The second was punting right to Cain and even out kicking our coverage in doing so. The third was the terrible decision to throw into the end zone just before half which resulted in an int and killed a scoring drive. You take those 3 plays away and the score completely changes.
What the heck, it will get back to normal next year.
