OutlawJoseyWales Wrote:Honestly PJ itâs some of both I would say. Again congratulations to Pikeville. They earned it. But the Belfry Staff was flat outcoached and that is most disappointing of all.
Outcoached is putting it mildly!! They should be embarrassed, it was pitch and catch all night long for 8-10 yards! Playing 10-15 yards off a receiver is ridiculous.

996 to 342. That is a huge difference in enrollment. Compared to 510-370 (PHS 9-12). We are getting off topic here. The point is, Belfry losing to Pikeville is nothing to be embarrassed about. Belfry is a little bit larger, but not like the earlier post insinuated using NCC and Highlands as an example.

To me this was the best thing of the whole game, he definitely grew up some last night

Not taking anything away from Pikeville. They are a great team who is well coached and earned the win last night but Dixon not even attempting to play baffles me. I'm sure it was not his decision and was held out. Figured they'd tape the ankle and give him a couple carries early in the game to see what he could handle. Even use him as a decoy to make sure Pikeville had to account for him on the field. He warmed up so it's possible he told the coaches there was just too much pain or couldn't cut like he wanted to and they made the decision to keep him out at that moment. But with the cupcake district schedule coming up, he would have had the next month to rest and heal up.

Itâs not an ankle injury.....foot injury. A lot of bruising along the bottom of foot is what I was told. Went thru extensive PT this week.... apparently the decision was made around 7:00 PM not to play him.

He warmed up on pikevilles side of the field so I was able to keep a close eye on him. He was definitely limping pretty bad.

Congrats to Pikeville on the win. Both teams came out hyped up and was a scoreless first quarter. Both teams settled down and established offensively what the other team was giving them. The big difference in this game was the composure of the Pikeville players and coaching staff. Belfry turnovers and some costly penalties cost them the game. The Pikeville defense stood tall and made all the big plays. Offensively we need to give credit to the left side of the Pikeville o line. They controlled the line of scrimmage in the second half. Big #76 was the best lineman on the field in my opinion. Establishing the run opened up the wide open passes. Mac and Pugh made some great plays. The biggest problem Belfry has is they cannot play from behind with only the running game and zero passing game.
The Pirates play hard and is always tough and athletic. Especially at home. But the overall size of the Belfry players and team depth does not seam to be there. They have some work. But should be right in the mix if healthy in November.
As far as the coaches. I agree coach Mac and staff out coached Haywood and staff this year. I canât believe the number of Belfry posters calling them out. Maybe itâs time for a change. Lol

This isn't even close to being accurate. Pikeville's average enrollment over the past 4 yrs is 354. Belfry's is 762.

This is the thing that has surprised me more than anything else as well. The all time winningest coach in Kentucky history and 6 time state champion as well as 6 time runner up has been repeatedly been called out on this thread. That's the real head scratcher. If you all don't want Coach Haywood anymore, I'm sure there would be many schools who would love to have him. Congrats Panthers on your victory.

There has not been one person on here say that they didn’t want Coach Haywood. Not one. So get that hogwash out of here. This is a discussion board and analyzing games and decisions good or bad are a part of it. I guarantee you I have watched more Belfry football than you have of whatever team you are for. People at Belfry love Coach Haywood more than most folks know. Analyzing decisions and commenting on some head scratching decisions doesn’t mean we don’t want him around. It’s called analysis.

It’s not. Belfry’s enrollment is 600 as of 18-19.. I had a typo up above at 510, which was meant to be 610, but I found more up to date info since then.. Pikevilles is 370.

Did I say you all didn't want him? No, I said IF you all didn't want him. So, get your hogwash out of here. I can't believe so many Belfry fans have called the coaching staff out. Call it analysis or whatever you want to, I still can't believe it.

Belfry has changed - the makeup of the school and mindset has so much in the past 3-4 years that the chickens are coming home to roost so to say.
There is a ton of kids in that school and on athletic teams and people on the fringes of the programs that are not Belfry people. Their parents didn't go there(which isn't always bad), they didn't transfer in from winning/good programs, and those associated with the kids aren't about winning, they are about what can you do for my social status and my kids.
Middle School hasn't done a good job a developing kids in the right spots. That place has a ton of parents/politically issues that is getting worse by the day when dealing with academics and athletics. That's not a knock on Coach Oliver, that is a knock on they have and have had nothing but dads as assistants up there for the past 4-6 years, and its D@#m hard to be a coach surrounded by people who are only there to make sure their kid gets reps. And its getting worse, they have 10 coaches up there right now and 8 are daddies. And it will get much, much, worse in the coming years if the rumors come true that I am hearing about how the new principal got hired.
Finally and this is the biggest and ties into the last - There is a few Belfry people that are now about a few Belfry people. Are they good people, yes. Are they good sports parents, teachers, and coaches when dealing with coaching family members and friends? No. There is a political family and their clique up there that controls a lot of things and have Coach Haywoods ear(shocking I know).
These Belfry "people" have no problem destroying Belfry or turning their back on it if Belfry doesn't give them what they want.
They are all about Belfry being a winner and great, as long their kid, grand-kid, or best friends kid is an integral piece and gets their time to shine. These kids aren't stupid, most these parents aren't stupid, but if you speak out or challenge their authority, your child and even possible you will get punished(including Coach Haywood).
They might get it turned around this year, but they have no depth and are not developing any, maybe they can in the next upcoming games. I highly doubt it though, as the political clique needs their kids on that field during blowouts and if another kid/kids that is young like their gets time, the coaches will get called to the office so to speak.
Dark days ahead for Belfry football after this year, and all athletics are going to feel the political/mafia/good ole' boy pain and get worse(is that even possible?)

This is a very interesting post and I donât disagree with a lot of it. I know the middle school with its new principal choice, whom Iâve never had any issues with, has some interesting so called âpromisesâ made that if allowed would drastically change the coaching landscape at BMS. It will be interesting to see if those rumors indeed become fact.

You can put that blame on Coach Haywood himself. He opened the door for this to happen, to keep the West Virginia pipeline open, no he is going to get held hostage by that crew to supposedly keep this kids here. The new principal and the supposed new football/basketball coach are saying do this or these kids wonât go to Belfry.

There is a lot that I can't believe made it into this game thread, but like you said, "Believe it.". Once Belfry starts winning, all will be forgotten. Winning takes care of everything .

I had to look this up but this was the first time Belfry has lost back to back games since games 2 and 3 of the 2001 season to Ashland and Lawrence County. That's pretty impressive. 18 years without back to back losses.
