4. Short term pain management.
Find a clinic to get steroid injections immediately. 24 hour relief for me. Most Drs don't like injections anymore. Find a clinic that will inject straight into the joint, not in the buttocks.
That is fastest relief. 2nd best option is 25mg methylprednisolone tablets. They come in 21 pill box and taken in declining numbers over several days. Don't do that take 3, 2, 2 doses for 3 days.

4b. Find pain medication that works. For me it's ibuprofen. Keep trying something every day until something works. OTC first then scrip. Helps to know a dealer lol. For me a lifelong friend was (now retired lol). I was lucky and OTC worked for me.

Believe me I know knee pain. When it's bad you can't process any thought other than pain. And no finding a position that makes it go away. Tears in eyes, cursing the world, the whole deal.
The good news is there is 90% chance of quick relief and 100% chance of long term relief. Just have to stay on it daily.
Not giving advice just telling you what worked for me. I almost never have knee pain now and if I feel it setting in I go for the steroid tablets (methylprednisolone) and they knock it out before it gets bad. I haven't used my crutches in years.

This might seem a little harsh to go this route but desperate pain calls for desperate measures. Hope this helps and good luck.

Almost forgot if you haven't got medical prognosis in the past, get blood checked for uric acid to see if it's gout and not osteo or rheumatoid. Same short term pain fix but different long term treatment.

and finding a rheumatologist ASAP

Sadly, my old doctor passed away a couple years ago. My new doctor won't do injections and that's how I found out about 21 pill method. It works fine but takes 2-3 days. Back when I got injections I would need one 2-3 times a year and usually within 24 hours I was pain free. Haven't had an injection in about 3 years but I know a clinic to go to if I ever get the crippling pain again and regular meds won't knock it out.

Doctor wouldn't inject me since he wasn't certain of exactly what's going on with the knee. He suggested an X-ray. I declined on that for now. He wrote me a prescription for the methylpredisolone pack that you recommended and also some 800 mg Ibuprofen. I asked him to help find me a good rheumatologist. So, the treatment so far is the steroid pack, 2400mg/day Ibuprofen and 1600mg/day Turmeric/Curcumin.

My right knee and feet used to ache and I suspected that it was the onset of arthritis. I have also had sporadic bouts of gout. About 8 months ago, I began taking public transportation to and from my office, which includes 6-7,000 steps a day. My feet get tired sometimes from the walking, but the pain has completely disappeared.
I also recently bought an e-bike and plan to commute to work on it when the weather cools a bit. The nice things about e-bikes is that you can control the amount of peddling effort with the push of a button. I had not been on a bike in 40 years, so right now, I'm focused on not crashing it on the parking lot.
If you are able to increase your physical activity, that may bring you some relief. Sitting in a chair 8 hours a day or more, with virtually no exercise was killing me.

Oh and I'm also worried about killing myself on the bike. But I see them everywhere in FL and a lot of people older than me are having no problem riding them. Baby steps in the driveway and neighborhood for a day or 2 then I'm all over town lol.

And I have found the M-pack works much better if taken faster. 3-2-2 with meals for 3 days and you should be good. And Hoot is right and I only mentioned exercise in passing...when you are pain free try to walk 20-30 minutes a day. Good luck and there is a 95% chance you can beat the knee pain for good, or at least keep it at bay for the vast majority of the time.

I have a lot of work to do before I attempt to ride the bike to work and back. This area is blessed with lots of bike trails, but traffic is heavy with bikes, scooters, and pedestrians.
The downside to my bike is its length and weight. It is too heavy for bike racks on buses. I can take it on trains but will need to avoid peak hours. It could easily block 4 or 5 seats and I don't want people having to stand on my account.

I watch alot of fishing videos on YouTube. Some of the YouTubers use those e-bikes. Those things seem pretty neat and they've really got my attention. I'm interested in learning more about them.

I rode one my friend's e-bikes earlier this summer when I was in Vermont. They are just like riding a regular 21 speed mountain bike except for the button you can push to make the pedaling easier. When you push the button, it makes the pedaling easier and you start to go faster. You can use that button up to 3 times. Each time you go a little faster. When you have the "extra gears" off it is like a regular bike. I had not ridden a bike many years and not have any problems.

I love to walk!! It always helps my joint pain. I have a circle around my house that's 1/2 mile. It has little traffic and I used to walk it every day, sometimes 4 or 5 times. I was recently diagnosed with venous insufficiency, including the valves in my legs not returning the blood sufficiently. In other words, my legs would just give out. It scared me when it first happened. I was afraid I had MS. But it wasn't that at all! Still, I have to be careful, and walk only one time around the circle and give it a couple of hours before trying the second round. I haven't been consistent with walking this summer because of the heat and humidity. This is another reason I'm looking forward to fall and lower temps.
Today was supposed to be a double birthday party for my great grandsons. I went down to their home a couple of days early, so I could help with arrangements and child care. I always have the best time with these two boys. They are GREAT fun!!! But, they got sick and we had to cancel the party. Bummer! What's more, I'm afraid I've caught what they had. So I came home last night because I was afraid to wait any longer in case I got to the point of not being able to drive safely.
Getting old is NOT for the weak!!!

The upgraded model will have a 750 Wat motor and better battery life. It also includes a torque sensor, which most riders prefer.
The beauty of electric bikes (and trikes) is that you can do all the work or let the bike do all the work, or you can share the work load with the motor. The trike has pedal assist settings from 0 to 5. The harder you pedal, the more power the motor contributes. The trike also has a throttle, which most riders don't often use.
Lectric claims an 80 percent share of the e-trike market in the US. You can buy cheaper trikes from Walmart or Amazon, but many trikes cost much more than the Lectric trikes. The upgraded Lectric bike costs $1,799. Not cheap, but hospital bills and gym memberships aren't cheap either. The base model is $300 cheaper.
The biggest reason for my preference for the upgraded trike is the torque sensor. Cheaper trikes and bikes use a cadence sensor, which deliver power assist based on peddling speed. My wife wants the trike for exercise but she wants simple operation and a trike that feels like a non-motorized bike when she peddles. In other words, she wants to feel like she is peddling a normal bike using her own bionic legs.

Those E bikes/trikes sound amazing, Hoot. But most of them are out of my price range. Unless Medicare covers them, which it does cover my gym membership. I don't go very often but when I do, I use the stationary bike a whole lot. I don't care for the tread mill because when I walk, I very much prefer to walk outside. I will oftentimes see wildlife and that just thrills me! I've seen bear a few times and deer. But mostly it's squirrels and rabbits. I like those, too.
