Youre hatred of Pikeville has clouded your logic once again. Pikeville WILL make the playoffs. As for this best in the county nonsense. Let Belfry and Pikeville play PC and Tug Valley and let SV play Holy Cross, Ashland, and Boyle and see if this thread is started then?

Is it nonsense for someone on here to say SV is the best in the county? Of course it is. But would it be nonsense to say they could be 2nd best this year? Not really...
I wouldn't lump Belfry and Pikeville in the same boat together, not at this point. After all, the Pirates have won their rivalry game by margins of 41 and 42 points the last two years. While the two schools may have similar football traditions, right now at this point they are not on the same level.
I think we all know what would happen if Belfry and SV played this year. Belfry's youth would keep it from being as bad as it has been the last couple years, but it still wouldn't be close. The Cantrall ratings predict around a 30 point win, which sounds right to me.
But what if Pikeville and SV played this year? I believe the game would be a lot closer than many in maroon would like to believe, and SV might even win. Cantrall currently would rate Pikeville as a 2 point favorite, which again sounds pretty accurate to me as well. But sadly, that is one matchup we will likely NEVER see...

SV considered last years game a win because they only lost by 2. Great job Wildcats. Maybe this year you will almost win by only losing by 14. In order to receive respect, you have to earn it. Popping off at the mouth does not earn respect, you must prove it on the field. And for the last 100 years, SV has done nothing to earn any respect from teams like Belfry or Prestonsburg. You are just a pebble amongst the mountain that teams like Belfry and Prestonsburg must climb to win the state championship.

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, so I'm not sure what people are saying, but to say Shelby Valley is the best in Pike county, at this juncture of the season is a very exagerated statement. If Pikeville or Belfry had played PC and Tug Valley, they both would be 2-0. To say that Belfry and/or Pikeville is a great deal better than SV would also be very exagerated.
I see all three schools being very close in comparison this year. A head to head matchup between SV and either will not happen, therefore definitive proof will not be there. Common opponents will have to be the only proof, and the one common opponent will be Prestonsburg. Honestly, the way Pburg is playing and the level of opponents they have already beaten this year, it would be a shock if Pikeville or SV would beat them.
But this is a long season, teams improve and there are many variables at play, including potential injuries; but even if Valley or Pikeville did beat Pburg, whose to say by the end of the season, Belfry hasn't improved and developed into a quality team.
I would think, no matter where ya from or who ya cheer for in Pike County, we all would have to agree that all 3 programs have the potential to play quality football this year and probably each could beat the other on any given friday night.

I hate to rain on your parade, and your opinion is your right, but until Valley can beat an opponent that has had even a little recent success, IMO, Valley is not the best in the county. Well, I know that you're going to say that they're 2-0, yes they are, but those two wins have came against Pike Central (no offense) and a Tug Valley team that only won 2-3 games last year. We all know that Valley has the better record, but take into consideration the kind of opponents Belry and Pikeville have been playing. Belfry went on the road to P'burg and lost by a TD to the team that went into Jackson and knocked off Breathitt Co. We then had to play 4A Boyd Co. and won , then in came 5A Ashland and only lost by 2pts. We have 5A Letcher this week and then 5A Whitley after that. Anyway, congratulations on your recent successes, but please schedule, play and beat the big dogs before you claim yourselves kings of the yard.
And no, I"m not trying to be a jerk, but just put things into perspective beffore you make such statements, good luck though and I hope you win every game...

shelby valley IS NOT THE BEST TEAM IN PIKE COUNTY, END OF STORY! valley has no chance at stopping belfry's ground game. belfry is still the best team in the county without a doubt. no doubt there down but still the best. yes valley is good but not quite the best in the county.

Maybe in basketball...
And wins over Pike Central and Tug Valley, not really the best teams there ever were, don't make a team the best in their county. Undefeated doesn't mean unbeatable.

I agree with you, Undefeated doesn't mean unbeatable, We (SV) are a good team, BUT we are striving to get better each and every day. Were still early in the season and we have alot to work on, but i think we will get it done and be a hard team to compete with. Lets hope im right!

Well...I think I figured out what this guy is thinkin...
Shelby Valley DOES have the best record in Pike County at 3-0
but does that make them really better then Belfry or Pikeville?
no....
if you go by W - L records then this would be one messed up season
Rankings by W/L's
1 Shelby Valley 3-0
2 East Ridge 1-1
3 Belfry 1-2
4 Pike Central 1-2
5 Phelps 1-2
6 Pikeville 0-2

Yes we do have the best record in Pike County, and no that doesn't mean we are the best team, BUT just because so far we haven't played a "great" team, that also doesn't mean were not a good team. We are going to play good teams, this week we play Knott Central, and next Week we play Lawrence County. If we won those games, people would still say something about our scheldule. But we all know SV hasnt played the best teams so far, but since we havent played the best teams, does that mean were not a good team?
09-09-2009, 11:44 PM
No not at all. Shelby Valley is a good football team. But too say there better then Belfry is what I have a problem with.

Well actually that would make him wrong, because the dude asked who won when they were in middle school? and he said BELFRY, and my middle school years, when i played at virgie we beat every team by 30+. I didnt lose a game in middle school!

Understandable u dont think we have a chance i guess cause honestly i play for Valley and i know we have proved nothing at all by beat PC and Tug but when we get the chance to prove that we have a great team this year we will take it. Im not saying we are going to beat lc but its going to be alot better game than what most ppl are expecting. The 10-12 seniors that actually play on our team have been all playing ball together for a very long time and most of us are closer than brothers and where all finally seniors this year and ready to prove we CAN be the best. And by playing this game we will finally get to see what kind of team we actually have.
