Raceland 25 Russell 14

Russell: -Awful Line O and D and Awful play calling
Raceland: Quality Line and Good play calling
Clearly Smith is a Awful play caller and should be replaced as the O cordinator. Morris' D did a pretty good job last night considering they were on the field most of the game. McGlone doesn't have a clue what hes doing anymore. Did any of you read the paper? He blamed the defense more than the offense. He obviously didnt have a clue about the game. The defense was the only reason we were even in the game. Smith and McGlone were clearly outcoached for the entire game. Also are line is way to awful to run the wing T. If we had Racelands offense we wold probably be 8-2 and we wouldve given Ironton and ashland much better games. Any decent team we play shuts down are offense with ease. Its 3 and outs almost everytime and the defense can only hold the flood gates so long.

If Russell calls a play that no one agrees with and scores he's a genius. If it doesn't and we take a 5 yard loss he is an idiot. Hear it every year. We knew coming into the season it was going to be a down year. Alot of the better kids play both ways and alot of underclass men have been called upon to assist our weak areas. Alot of injuries on top of that and this is what ya got. Alot of the play calling is similar to the same plays ran when Russell was winning more games. I'm not downplaying our seniors abilities but as a whole the talent is watered down. Like FBALL stated we are on the rise to some great football in the future.

If you know that then why not do something to mask your weakness instead of showing it
Play after play. You have a Wv that threw for over 3k yards last year and I doubt he has much over 500 this season. As far as the players going both ways Russell had young kids on the sideline that could have given the starters breathes in spots, and yes I'm talking about a few freshman. Mitch Redden is 6-1, 6-2, 250, and Sammy smith is 6-0, 270, I know they used him some on d line but they could have used both more often. I know the're young but they both tough as nails and can play.

It's been the same complaints since the 1970s. Up years are more quiet. Down years the bitching really ratchets up.

Same on this side of the highway also FB!
Must be the competitiveness in us!
I just want to say one positive thing before leaving.
The Devil stadium is a awesome place to watch football!
A great field to play on! Best in our area. Going to miss it.
Your gonna have to come up with some other unique way of showing the team spirit after scoring. Another area school has copied your fireworks and train horn!!!! Lol
Good luck to the devils in the playoffs!

If Raceland is not on the schedule and Russell takes care of Mason then you are 8-2 and everybody in devil land is fine. Then it would be a normal Russell season, The would be getting a lot of wins in a weak weak district.

I guess it's a good thing that people are proud enough to care that much.

District isn't that weak. Mason is usually pretty good. Fleming is usuall athletic. The Carter County schools and Lewis are usually more up and down.

You're right though. Choking that game away to Mason was a killer.

Wish we would have gotten of toa better start against the Ams. Can't give a good team a head start like that.

There has been talk of going to turf. I hope not. I like the Bermuda.

What I said was more for the Russell people who are downing the program. If the replace the Rams with a team the can beat and take care of Mason you are 8-2.No body from Russell would be running down their coach of 30 years. It would de another good year for Russell with the same team with the same coach

No. They would still bitching.

In a couple of years we will be back up and they will still complain. Having a losing streak to Blazer and Raceland is eating them alive.

We will turn it back around against Blazer in a couple of years but unfortunately due to the bad decision to stop this series we may not get the chance to turn the tide on Raceland for another 30 years.

Are starting lineup should look something like this if the coaches werent scared to hurt the seniors feeling.
C-Redden Big body and much more agressive than Herring ever thought about being.
G-Adkins/Arnold Not bad. Arnold is already pretty good and is only going to get better. Adkins is above average but he seems to take plays off or just not know his assignments
T-Bevis/Smith Bevis is probably are best lineman. Smith is already better than scaggs and the coaches have to see it they just dont want to throw into the fire yet.
E-Kennedy/Korzep Both have good hands and are fairly good at blocking. Korzep is an upgrade from Howell: Faster/better hands.
QB- Evans Struggled against Raceland but he is clearly the best we have by a mile.
RB- Huffine/Hayes Huffine looked alright last week but googie was a major dissappiontment for me. I assume he just came back to quick from his injury
FB-Cathey The kid has got everything out of the talent god has given him. Quality player.

Agree or disagree?
I just think if there are freshman who are just as good as seniors why not play them and let them get some experience?
#44
Defense should probably look like this
NT-Bevis strong kid who plays hard
T- Smith/Adkins Big guys who can clog running lanes
E- Campbell/Kennedy Both played extremly well on defense aginst raceland
LB Cathy/Stevens Cathy is above average. Even thoug jenkins played well last week Stevens is still an upgrade over him
Secondary Googie/Huffine/Mcknight/Korzep All have fairly well but I think Huffine was better his junior/sophmore year. That could be credited to injuries.
#45
You think we would have a better secondary considering there are 3 seniors (Huffine, mcknight, hayes) and just one sophmore (Korzep). They are average but they should be dominant.
#46
McKnight is a junior that never made a varsity start before this year. McKee is better in the secondary.
#47
What about May? McKnight had an interception and a couple of nice tackles. I've seen them both play and mcknight is probably better than mckee but im not sure about May.
#48
who do you think will be the starters on O/D next year Fball?
#49
I agree on the ends. I'd even look at Van Deren as an

Stevens being out didnt help but Jenkins filled in well. We lose some speed st linebacker there.
#50
Van Deran has played well at times but also equally bad. There are only a few players in the junior class that can actually play (Mcknight,Howell,Van deran, and Jenkins) The sophmore and freshman classes are much stronger.(obviously) The only juniors that have made an impact this year are Mcknight and Van Deran and Jenkins made an impact against raceland but besides that hes not done much. They are a really weak class besides those 3.

Mostly this years sophomores and Freshmen if I was choosing them. Maybe one that will be a freshman next year. I've already had people get on me for saying that.

I don't think I would have one senior in the starting lineup next year. Maybe one or two unless some kids come out and surprise us.

I don't think there is any way around it being a youth movement next year. People better get them then because after that they are going to be really tough for the next few years.
#52
Also the turf field is going to happen. Freshman coach Hurley said they already have the plans set and paid for. Goodbye Bermuda, hello turf burns.
#53
Fball,

Sounds to me like that is what some of Russell's upperclassmen need to hear. Maybe it would wake them up and make them earn their job this offseason.

Love young guys pushing the older guys.

And "turf burns?" Is this old school carpet going in?

I've heard that. I don't like it but I've heard it.

I agree Ashland has already shown this year that a talented freshman can play on the varsity level. Did it with Sam hunter a well. Conley should play a lot and maybe even start on Friday nights. He is gonna be up there with Gross and Clark when it is said and done that much is for sure.
#57
Our Defensive line for next year should pack their sleeping bags and live in the gym. They need to control the line in beast mode fashion. Our linebacker should be making assist tackles not the initial tackle. I do think Smith and Redden can help the team out next year. Play Sammy on Def and Mitch on Off. Jenkins when healthy should be really good next year.

Some of the older kids do need to hear it. Still don't know if it will matter. These freshmen and sophomores are just better. Bigger, stronger, faster.

If they do the field turf it will be the good stuff. No old school torture turf going in. I still like the Bermuda.

He's good but that's a lot of expectations to put on the kid. I haven't seen bit a handful in this area ever that were as good as Gross and Clark were.

But he has the potential and the kid plays and works hard. Time will tell.

I could agree with that. I think Sammy and Mitch will start both ways next year. Jenkins can play but he needs to dedicate himself and really get in the weight room and on the track to get in shape.
