Johnson Central 54 Greenup County 0

Sports dad Wrote:To me this was a free kick and not a field goal. A field goal has a snap and holder and this was from the tee. The boy from Raceland who had the old record had a snap and holder and rush. It was a nice kick by the boy from JC.

Do you realize that Tyler Pack held the record as well?
#32
Way to go Tyler!!! Pay no attention to people who make excuses about anything that happens they have nothing better to do in life. They will never learn how to keep the foot out of their mouth.
#33
Congratulations to the Eagles and Mr. Pack. Does anyone have any stats on this game? I know Spike said Greenup got their first 1st down with about a minute left in the game and the backfield was replaced midway through the second quarter. Nonetheless keep playing hard and getting better.
#34
Greenup did get their first 1st down very very very late in the 4th qtr. I think it might have been on the drive before Pack's record setting kick.

Although I rarely post on here anymore most people know who I am but for those who don't, my name is John Phillip Blair. I logged on the thread just now to read about our game with Greenup County last night and to congratulate Tyler Pack on his new state record but I must say some of the comments that I've read in this thread really irks me. We have so much bull crap on this thread by non JC people it really pisses me off to read it. First off Tiger Fever's an idiot for talking about another member and his son while being a coward and hiding behind a user name. Secondly OTH you have every right to be upset at someone calling out you and your kid on a message board but imagine how the parents of Tyler Pack feel about your asterisk comment. If the shoe was on the other foot you would probably be upset. I'm going to end my rant early(in this post) but I want to say one more thing. The football program at Johnson Central have been blessed the last six years in the kicking department. Trent Davis was a four year starter and an absolute pleasure to coach. Last year we had Ryan Burford and Lorenzo Antignano step in and fill the void after Trent graduated. This year Tyler Pack decided to join the team and what a splash he's made. The good news is he's only a sophomore, so there's plenty more to come and the sky's the limit for this kid. We also have August Erikkson on this year's team and August has had many touchbacks this season also. Congrats to the Golden Eagles on the win and congrats to Tyler Pack on his new record.

Wrong according to the NFHS rule book, a free kick is a field goal.

I don't think off the hook was being overly critical of Pack. Officially it is a field goal. But there is a big difference between a free kick from a tee and an actual field goal attempt with a snap a hold and a rush. I don't think anybody could logically deny that.

And if the GC guys don't like a record being set against them tough. Karma.
#39
I'd say Mr. pack will have a 63-64 yd. state record field goal by the time he graduates.

J.J. Jude - Single game rushing & Career rushing leader.
Tyler Pack - Longest Field goal.

Not too bad for JC to own these records.

Thank You FBALL. At least you see the point I was trying to make. I know it's IS a FG and it IS a State Record. I was just trying to point out the differences between the two types of kicks and the difficulty levels of each. Such as a traditional FG is normally a 2 step and kick as were the Free Kick FG is a 10 yard run then kick. Either way the kid still owns the distinct honor of being a State Record Holder. :1:

The asterisk comment wasn't made as a put down. It was meant as to show a footnote as to what type of FG it was. ie...TDs are TDs. But you have different kinds such as recieving, rushing, punt return and kick return and each one of those has it's own record.

I personaly think it would be even sweeter if he kicked a 60 yarder the traditional way (Which I think he will) and then KHSAA recognize him with two different State Records. Now how awesome would that be!

He didn't even start in football and the only reason he played was because I made him. But, he did help lead soccer and baseball to Regional Championship appearances and 12 Letters and is still playing at the next level. I'm not complaining. But, if you would like to discuss this man to man. I would be more than happy to set your dumb ass straight. You can even hold my leg. Cause I won't need it.

Remember.....I'm NOT the one talking shit and HIDING behind my screen name.

Man to man? you sound more like a little school boy, why don't you meet after school behind the building. Grow up, you are making yourself look really stupid

This kid has a great leg, is young and is in the record book. I also expect him to have a good shot at kicking another the traditional way. But after watching that video you can see what people saying about the asterik, it is in no way the same as kicking with the snap, the hold, the shorter run up, and the rush. Can't do anything but congraduate the kid, he is playing by the rules and is the new record holder.

I'm just an observer here. I don't know the young man or his family nor am I from Johnson County nor do I have any connections to the school. But what HURT ME about all this is that the young man is what? 15 or 16 years old and he just did something that no one else in this state has ever done. What an accomplishment. Can you imagine how he's feeling? Can you imagine how big that is to a 15 or 16 year old? And then, instead of congratulating him on what he has accomplished, people start minimizing it and running it down. You'd think he stole something. If it's so easy to kick a 60 field goal any way, how come no one else ever did it before?

This IS a major accomplishment, Tyler! Keep up the good work!

It is a great kick for sure. But it should not be in the same category as a Field Goal. No snap, no hold, no rush, a tee, and a ten step run and go make the Free Kick a totally different animal. Hats off to the kid for a great Free Kick.

Direct Copy and Paste: In the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) rulebook, the fair catch kick is specifically defined as a free kick.[

The fair catch kick is a rule at the professional and high school levels of American football that allows a team that has just made a fair catch to attempt a free kick[A] from the spot of the catch. The kick must be either a place kick or a drop kick, and if it passes over the uprights and between the goalposts of the defensive team's goal a field goal, three points is scored to the offensive team.

Coach NOBODY is arguing the fact that it is a legit 3 pt FG. In fact EVERYONE that has posted has NOT put the kid down what so ever. All I have seen is nothing but well deserved praise for the kid. It was a GREAT accomplishment and he is going to have a GREAT future for the Eagles!

The point that everyone is trying to make is that it is a totally different kick, which the posted videos clearly show.

I'm truly sorry if I have offended anyone. It was NOT my intentions to do so. I was just stating what I observed. This is a discussion forum and that is what myself and RIPKEN were doing.

Free kicks are specifically categorized as field goals by KHSAA and Pack made the FG in a game featuring two Kentucky teams that was played on Kentucky soil. The decision about what constitutes a FG in Kentucky was made years before Pack broke his own 58-yard FG record with a 60-yd. free kick FG. There is no controversy here.
#55
Congrats Tyler. Great accomplishment. Tieing then breaking the state FG record in the same season.

My .02

Screw the asterisk, forget the controversy, it was a smart move by the JC staff to take advantage of the way the rules are defined and since it is considered a FG by the KHSAA rules then it should forever remain as a FG.

It's not the fault of Pack and the JC staff that the rule has not been used before for long Field Goals. Nor should you hear them complain if next week a kicker from Louisville does the same thing and shatters the record with a 65 yard field goal of his own.

Bravo to the young man!

The one thing this does confirm is that Jim Matney is the greatest troll in the history of KY Football Message Boards. This is about the 6th blowout this year that has resulted in JC being the talk of the state. He also single handily just gave Highlands and CovCath a whole new aspect to have consider in their gameplan with the threat of 60+ yard field goal and 3 points anytime Highlands or CovCath drops back for a punt.

Like I said, congrads Mr. Pack. I have watched the you tube video several times. The kid stops, look over at the sideline and then starts over. Did he know he was going for the record? Not bashing the kid just wondering.

I think Highlands would gladly trade 3 points for 7 points all night long!
