Not sure where Badman gets his information, but Bardstown did not lose ANY players to the local Catholic school, Bethlehem. I am aware of 1 eighth grade starter who enrolled at Bethlehem. The Tigers have 10 starters returning on offense and 10 on defense. They have added some basketball players who haven't played in a couple seasons, and a talented player transferred in from Alabama.
Also, in both of their scrimmages, Bardstown rotated in a large number of sophomores and underclass players to see who was varsity-ready. Neither Harrison County nor Eastern saw very much of the first team. In fact, against Eastern, at least 6 regular starters were in street clothes resting minor nagging injuries, in order to be ready for the opener. So, they have some depth.
Although it is a long trip, the Tigers will be ready.

Incidentally, we are eating at the Blue Raven and staying at the Hampton. I am looking forward to seeing Hambley, we don't have those type of facilities over here. I do believe in spending money at other towns when they are hosting.

Glad you are making the long trip. Hope you guys have a safe trip and going home too. This could be a very interesting game and Bardstown definitely has a lot coming back sort of like this Pikeville team last year. Hope for an injury free game for both but as always GO PANTHERS!!!

You are going to be surprised what Pikeville brings to the table. The offense will go up and down the field vs Bardstown D, will be interesting to see if Bardstown can move the ball on Pikeville.
You probably don't believe it yet, but facing Pikeville will be much more like playing Central or E-town than anyone else Bardstown faced last year.

Wow. If you are as good as last yearâs Central, we should just avoid the 4 hour drive and stay home for the Buttermilk Days Festival. I will start collecting postage from the other Class A teams so the trophy can be mailed to you.

Panthers should hit the ground running. They are big favorites in 1A. They can make good teams look bad.

I’d tap the brakes a little on the Panther coronation. I’ll give them a fair assessment after their first 5 games. I can guarantee Bardstown is a much better opponent than their last couple year openers. I’m sure like most on here Bardstown is tired of hearing how great this team is before they’ve even played a real game. I’d say there’s more than one team on the Panther schedule chomping at the bit to get a piece. All this hype on here they better be ready to bring their A game every time they line up because talk about having a target. Bout time to see if the Bark matches the bite. Is the Hype for real? You can guarantee Bardstown will roll in to Hambley ready to make a statement. JP has sure fired up Lord Grantham. This could be a much closer game than most on here seem to think.

From the game notes section of game previews in Pikeville paper (not a lot of Panther fans there, they usually are straight-up):
Class 3A Bardstown finished last season with a 6-6 record. Bardstown returns its top two quarterbacks from last season. DaTrail Wright led the Tigers passing attack going 45 for 75 for 646 yards and five TDs with five interceptions. Brady Clark was 50 for 111 for 619 yards and 12 TDs with six interceptions.
The Tigers also return top running back LaDarion Montgomery. Montgomery finished last season with 704 yards and three TDs.
Pikeville is hungry this season.
The Panthers looked good in both of their preseason scrimmages.
Pikeville looked really good in their last scrimmage against Pulaski County.
But that's scrimmage play.
The regular season is what counts.
Look for the Panthers to come out focused and use this as the first step on their way back to Kroger Field.
The Panthers are going to be fun to watch on both sides of the ball.
Pikeville is fast on offense and defense.
Isaac McNamee will look to stretch the field with two of the state's top receivers with the duo of Jackson Hensley and Seth Pugh. Add in Cody Raines in the backfield and Clay Tinsley as an underneath threat in the pass game and the Panthers have weapons all over the field.
On defense, the Pikeville defense is quick.
They get to the ball fast.
Who 2 Watch: Pikeville quarterback Isaac McNamee. He's got a solid offensive line to protect him. He's got He's got Cody Raines in the backfield. He's got Hensley, Pugh, Tinsley and Zack Lockhart to throw to.
The Panther offense has a chance to be special.
If McNamee has a big game, look for the Panthers to get off to a quick start.

That sounds like a fair summary. Key will Be whether McNamee has time to get ball downfield or has to revert to quick screens. My understanding is that Pikeville starts two big freshmen guards?

Eagles practice at FSS Thursday and Wednesday. Banshee's preparing there on Monday and Tuesday. They rotate at Lally every two days. Not to mention, that the turf was only installed in early august, and the fieldhouse isn't even complete. Stop by and see for yourself.

They can start the freshman guards or they can go with the upper class man guards, both of whom saw JV time last year as well as some mop up duty in varsity games. They are stout as well. The freshmen will have special careers if they continue working hard. Word Iâm hearing is they have been very solid so far though! Could very well end up being the starters. Bardstown will be very tough with the returning experience they have, but Pikeville returns a lot of people who saw quite a bit of PT last year as well, so it is not a huge experience advantage for Bardstown. And if McNamee has to throw a bunch of quick screens, thatâs fine too. Feel very confident Pikeville can match speed with Bardstown, line play as usual will be the key factor in this game. Special teams will be advantage Pikeville, D will be advantage Pikeville, O will be a tossip because offenses generally take a little longer to gel than Defenses. So it will boil down to the line that executes best and no TOs.

Seen it. Bethlehem has posted their roster on the KHSAA website as they were required to do. The only players on their roster who were enrolled in the Bardstown system last year are Logan McMillan and Zane Wickliffe, both freshmen. McMillan did not even play football for Bardstown. Wickliffe played on the 8th grade team, but would not ever have seen the field this year (or probably next year). In fact, in the local newspaper's football preview yesterday, neither are even listed as likely contributing players at Bethlehem this season. So, again, if your source is "TH," he merely seals his local reputation for the liar he always has been.

Why do you say special teams will be advantage Pikeville?
08-22-2019, 04:52 PM
Yes Pikeville throws screens and outs, curls and posts and any other kind of pass routes you wish to talk about. They also run the ball very effectively and you can ask Pulaski County about that. One thing I can tell you donât come to Pikeville thinking they only pass because they will run the ball. They have a balanced game. Bardstown definitely has a lot of playmakers as does Pikeville but this is the first game of the season and hopefully each team gets better after it. Last year has no meaning on this year so all I can say is buckle up itâs time to do your jobs and execute with the best of your ability every play matters especially for these seniors and really the whole team. Canât wait until the fireworks go off and Pikeville gets this season started. You seniors this is your last first game of the season make the most of it and enjoy because I for one have definitely enjoyed watching you guys grow every year. As always GO PANTHERS!!!

Lord Grantham Wrote:Why do you say special teams will be advantage Pikeville?
Pikeville returns their kicker (who has gotten much stronger and more accurate with kickoffs), who was 42-47 on PATs last season (with I think 4 of the 5 misses coming on bad snaps or mishandled snaps), a punter (Seth Pugh) who did very well when pressed to punt, outstanding coverage unit that returns virtually everyone, PR and KO returners all return except for Christian Billiter, etc. Itâs just IMO that Pikeville ST will be advantage, but Iâm basing it on fairly solid evidence based on returning players. They can squib it or kick it deep more consistently than last year with Hamiltonâs added leg strength.
