Hurts even worse because he is a senior who worked his butt off to become this talented. Both teams live to play another day. That's the gist of the story. Good luck to Hazard moving forward.
Hate it for the young man!!! Heâs a game changer.

Anyone with any word on the Somerset kid today? I hope it wasn't as bad as suspected but I didn't hear what the actual injury was. Continued prayers. Sorry I just now went back and saw what was posted about the injury. I probably helped coach against that kid, or cheered against him in youth league years ago. I am cheering for him right now, to heal up and be able to do what he wants to at 100% the rest of his life. I really do hate this for Somerset.

Lots to unpack here. Iâve had a couple of days to digest it all so Iâll make points instead of a long thought about the game.
- First trip to Hazard for a game. I love the stadium and the game day vibe. Hazard has one of the better home field advantages Iâve seen.
- I knew Hazard was good but Iâll say that once they get to playoffs, theyâll be a very hard out for people. The defense is very good. The offense also played well. I think miscues and turnovers were the only thing that kept them from winning. I might go as far as to say theyâre better than Williamsburg.
- The officiating was not good. I donât care if flags are thrown, but if youâre going to call penalties with that much regularity, then do so on both sides of the ball. Iâm 50 yards away in the booth and I can see the obvious as much as they can. That said, Somerset is going to kill themselves with costly penalties if they donât figure out some things to clean up.
- Somerset can survive the loss of #21, but his presence on the field made SHS much better. My heart goes out to the kid. I canât think of too many that radically changed their body in the off season like he did in an effort to help his team and also help himself in recruiting for college. I seriously thought he was on the verge of a breakout type season that put him on the map. Thatâs the thing that drives me absolutely insane. Now my wish is that he dedicates himself in the off season and any college that was willing to take a chance him still will.
- The next 4 games wonât be easy. Danville, LCA and Washington County then end the season with Corbin. Letâs see how the Briar Jumpers respond and rally for their teammate.

I know this post has no bearing on this game but traveled down to Hazard for a middle school game. I have no clue if itâs the same refs but it was as lopsided as Iâve ever witnessed. As a matter of fact when anyone questioned their calls they threw us out ...fans, kids, and coaches.

I recently (as of last night), found Miller's 6th grade championship game. Later on if he's feeling better (those that know him), and he wants a copy of that I will make a little DVD video for him and get it to him. I've recorded our games vs Somerset when he was playing since he would've been in 3rd grade I guess. But the championship game is the one I found on my storage. He may not want to think about football right now but I'm sure that's all he's going to think about. :-(

There is a lot more to this story. But we will leave it at that since it has no bearing on the thread. A good game as well, until, well you know, the game ended abruptly.

I looked at video as well. JMO Somerset had several bad calls against them. Look at it this way. Perry Central, Letcher Central, Breathitt Co. and Leslie Co. the 4 closest schools don't play Hazard, Wonder Why ??:truestory:

You do realize with the exception of Perry theyâve play each of those in the past 3 years?

You want to know why they dont play? Hazard would beat all those local teams you mentioned pretty easily.
Those local teams want an easy game. Hazard has dominated this area for years and years. Letcher has played them close a few times and Perry could have if they ever played each other. Think it may have more to do with Hazard recruiting their kids over the years.

Sounds like officiating was bad in this one doesnât surprise me. I expected the score to be a lot worse.

Just one time i'd like to read about a game without all the complaining about refereeing. This is getting ridiculous. If all you professionals feel like you can do better, please for the love of god get your license and show us how it's done.

That time won't be when one team has 200+ yards in penalties and the home team has 37.

^^Wow!!
In HC's game with Knox Central, we had 160 penalty yards in the first half, to KC's 0.
Only issue was we deserved them!!

Hazard has dominated this area for the past seven or eight years, due to Breathitt being at an all time low, for five or six of those years. Traditionally, Breathitt has dominated the area, especially from 95-2012.

Hazard has had good football ever since the school opened up many many years ago. Overall there us no comparison between Hazard and Breathitt. Dont think Hazard has went threw any droughts.

I strongly disagree, but you are entitled to your own opinion.

Good point. I looked and Hazard has only 2 losing seasons since 1990.
Breathitt has had 7 in the same time frame.

In recent years, Leslie would have throttled hazard. In only a hand full of years since Coach Melton took over for the Eagles would the bulldogs have beat the Eagles. Just my opinion

No doubt hazard has dominated within the last 3 to 4 years without any competition in the area but previous to that Leslie had some really good teams including a team that blew a 3pt lead to the eventual state runner up in the Danville Admirals who by the way had mr. Ky football and took the pretty much exact same team and won a state championship the next year.
And if Iâm not mistaken, didnât hazard and Leslie scrimmage before the start of this season with both teams playing each other very well?

2014-2016... Leslie dominated their schedule these years outside of a few games but only losing 1 regular season game in 2016 to south laurel which was on a hail marry as time expired.
Now Iâm not debating that hazard has dominated majority of the years but Imo Leslie dominated the local area in these years. Not taking away from the dogs but also think we should not act like they were better then they were these years.

Maybe in 14 and 15. But 16 Hazard lost to Beechwood in the championship game. So you never know on that one. Am I’m just looking at common foes that you all have and that was Prestonsburg. Both teams played Pburg that year

No I agree that 16 wouldâve been their best chance at beating the Eagles with the other two years being won by Leslie. But I watched both teams play and I wouldâve took Leslie hands down. But I am biased in this case.
