Lexington Catholic vs. Belfry (3A State Championship)
TheBrahmaBull Wrote:Looking at all the empty seats lessons the atmosphere in my opinion. I would much rather have standing room only than thousands of empty seats. Only sections of wku are occupied. Same as when they were held in Louisville on a lesser level due due the smaller venue. Still needs a size decrease in my opinion.

Aside from interior seating/club area the other thing you have to be careful with in Campbellsville and LWC is hotel rooms

Lodging for 12 teams, 12 sets of cheerleaders, marching bands, and fans is a LOT of rooms that are booked over a stretch of 2 days.
KHSAA is all about the money. I mean, since we changed to Russell jerseys we've won the Russell Athletic Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl twice Smile
Manononamission Wrote:Looks to me KHSAA would move the damn games back to the middle of the state also. KHSAA seem to be jacked up it's self. But it is like anything else it's a money racket.

Now that Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington has turf, I expect it to permanently move there when the WKU deal is over. The KHSAA is based in Lexington. Plus there's ample parking, lodging and the place seats 61,000. With the exception of Mayfield, Lexington is pretty reasonable for every team in the state. As it stands right now, Belfry and Pikeville, and JC is traveling the furthest.

I dont see it for this very reason.

That's a whole lotta empty space.

Even your biggest 6A games of all time will be lucky to draw 15K.

You average finals game attendance is probably in the 7500 range...

EKU will eventually make the most sense once they finish the stadium. Will fit the largest of crowds, tons of hotels between Richmond and Lexington, smaller crowds will still fit well. Indoor areas for hosting the dog and pony shows. Turf field. Good enough parking. Closer to the hub of the state.

Believe it or not WKU is closer to the geographical center of KY than UK, UL, or EKU. Campbellsville is essentially the center point. With that said, WKU is much further away from the center of Kentucky's heaviest population base.
Lexington Catholic will pull the upset and dethrone the champs. Why? because scheduling JCHS earlier this year will help the knights be prepared for the hard-hitting defense and deceptive offense Belfry is well known for. Belfry played Tates Creek earlier this year and came out on top, but did give up yardage against the spread. Pirates wont be so lucky this time around against a spread team

Prediction
LexCath- 30
Belfry- 22
Thought this was Belfry vs Lex Cath. Didn't know it was EKU/UK/WKU topic.

That would work for them but were a lot a lot better then JC I hope you Coachs feel the same way you do.

While I agree it will help LexCath, and JC does run a similar style than us - our offense is actually a lot different than theirs.

Yeah but don't you think the other spread offenses we scheduled and beat will help up prepare.
I disagree with the title location. IMHO the championship game is about the kids and when I was in school I wanted to play at either UK or Louisville. You don't need a crazy crowd to get up for the state championship game. The last thing the kids look at is empty seats. I agree as a fan it is cool that the smaller stadiums provide a more intimate setting but for a kid I think it's a lot cooler to be able to say that they've played on uk's field. That's just my opinion. Either way I hope the pirates win. Mountain pride!!!
The games should be played at University of the Cumberlands Smile
The more I try to figure this one out the more I think it could be decided by the coin toss.

flip a coin so they wont have to play Smile
LC will need more than a spread offense. Belfry knows that LC will come out swinging on offense. Belfry will adjust. LC will then stack up the box on Belfry's offense. There's know way they can't stack the box. Belfry's powerful Oline will gain 5 yards a carry. Then after Belfry scores 2 touchdowns in the first half and if the coin toss goes Haywood's way they will get the ball back the second half. Then it will b another score, by then LC won't know what to do. The game will be out of control. LC will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Belfry trying to figure out a way to score. Crazy plays, on side kicks, fake punts. But some of these will cost them a touchdown.

According to NetState just outside of Lebanon in Marion county is the geographic center of Ky, with that being said Lexington is just as close to the center point of Ky as Bowling green is.

Bowling Green is more centrally located than Louisville, Lexington would probably be ideal but doubt that's ever gonna happen.

I disagree. The players have mentioned fan support being important to them. They like hearing the fans cheering for a good play or a hard hit. The noise when the apponets have the ball. "It gets them even more pumped." Thats a quote from one of our players. Then there is that sea of red.
Where's all the trash talking? Usually it's gotten interesting on here 3 days before the state championship. Is this the calm before the storm? Just my opinion, no disrespectSmile

I don't think there's any LexCath fans here to trash talk TBH.

Really hoping Pike County goes 2-0 here. Fayette County is already penciled in for 0-1 because I don't think a Lafayette all time all star team could beat Male.
I'm thinking it will be won by the heart those mountain teams have!!
Why would EKU not be considered for state play. I think that would be a good spot. Not a big as Commonwealth and more central that BG.

I don't think they have near the hotel capacity...unless you factor in the short drive to Lex.

Just guessing though.

A late score by Belfry to close it out. Don't see the blow out anyone is predicting. Watched LC twice this year and they are the real deal. If Belfry lays it on the ground 2-3 times LC will walk away with this one. If I'm Belfry I bring the pressure all game long, don't give the QB all day to pick them apart and find the deep ball. A jump ball scenario on the deep ball will end up disastrous for Belfry. Belfry has been known to rush only three against spread offenses and that will be a recipe for disaster Sunday. On the offense side of the ball Belfry needs to dance with what got them there. Nothing too cute or fancy, run run run and hold on to the ball. Keep it between the tackles, stay out of 3rd and long. With Belfry's style of play they can't get down 2 scores, while LC has the firepower and has shown the ability to score fast. Should be the best game of the finals if both teams bring their A game.
Good Luck Pirates! TongueirateSho

I agree with what your saying. You had better believe Belfry will stick with what got them there, and you wont see anything cute from Haywood. It will be pound and pound and once the game gets into the late quarters it will be pound some more. If Belfry lays the ball on the ground they could find themselves in a bad situation playing from behind, one thing about this Belfry team is they believe in themselves so much they never feel like there out of it. I just hope Haywood can keep them focused up until gametime. For some reason this game feels like a trap game. Not that LC isn't a special team, just that if Belfry comes out flat and doesn't go full speed for four quarters LC could put some points on the board quickly. From what I've seen on film, It's going to be very difficult for LC to stop Belfry between the tackles, and if it plays out that way Belfry will live there all night long gladly. Like I said before, Belfry's players, coaches and fans take as much enjoyment out of that as they would breaking 80 yarders all night long. Like watching a boxer delivering body blows for 11 rounds just to see the other one not be able to answer the bell in the 12th.
I love Belfry Football and have played in two state championship games. This trip to BG is an honor but its so unfair for the fans of Eastern Kentucky. According to Google Maps its a 10 hour round trip, that's insane.

Our community has been devastated by the war on coal and money is tight (especially around Christmas). If the game was played at UK , a parent could drive up (3 hours) watch the game and drive back with ease.

This community loves Belfry and we support the Pirates but a location site in central Kentucky would be a God Send. It could be the only "good football" that's played in the UK stadium all year LOL.
Good luck Belfry Pirates. Bring back the title to the mountains !!
Ok I've not said anything about the out come of this game. But I just watched LC in 2 different games. Nothing special about them othe than the QB will run if he's flushed out. So looks like he will b running all night long. That doesn't win championships. Once Belfry gets set in on them it will be touchdown after touchdown. The backs will go 10 to 20 yards every carry. LC's defense won't be able to stand the punishment this line brings. LC's offense takes to long to develop. Big Ray and Bentley will chew them up.
Pulling for Belfry. Bring it back to Pike and help make us "Title County"!
