Russell is not done yet this year though. They could make a good playoff run.

FBALL Wrote:He's good but that's a lot of expectations to put on the kid. I haven't seen bit a handful in this area ever that were as good as Gross and Clark were.He sure put on a clinic in the first half of the Kiwanis bowl I believe 8 carries for 91 yards. Russell went away from him in the second half idk why. We had no answer for the young man. I tell you here in a year or two Conley and baker are going to put on a show together one Friday night that much is for sure.
But he has the potential and the kid plays and works hard. Time will tell.

The Baker kid is fast...very fast but take that away and I saw a freshman back playing varsity. Jukes to the right..spins to the left. I remember his daddy in High school. I saw him at the state track meet. His dad looked like a Hershel Walker type RB and smoked Hunt from Raceland (cough..cough..another Raceland transfer from Russell) like he was sitting still. Baker has loads of potential but I agree with FBALL. Just let him do his thing pressure free and just sit back and enjoy the show he will provide for us all.

Next year Russell will for sure start 2 seniors in mcknight and howell just because they have already started this year. Expect Van Deran, Jenkins, and mullins to start as well. Correct me if im wrong but there isn't one interior lineman that will start out of this years junior class besides jenkins on O? I have seen a couple of JV games and they are BAD.

I think Conley will be great but its dumb to compare him to the already proven Baker. He hasn't done anything on a varsity level yet. He most likely will be great but put him in bakers league when they are playing completely different competition. Then comparing them to Clark and Gross is just ignorant. They are two of the best backs to come out of this region. I expect Conley to be about as good as Abrams in 2007. A great back but not on Gross/Clark level just a notch below.
10-28-2012, 05:19 PM
For Conley in the Kiwanis bowl. I think the coaches just wanted to share some touches with other freshman RB's. He tried to spread the ball around and let other kids have a chance. The freshman team has a lot of backs of equal talent. Spencer cole is one of them. He had the other long run in 2nd half. If he see daylight he will turn on the jets.

C-Redden Big body and much more agressive than Herring ever thought about being.
G-Adkins/Arnold Not bad. Arnold is already pretty good and is only going to get better. Adkins is above average but he seems to take plays off or just not know his assignments
T-Bevis/Smith Bevis is probably are best lineman. Smith is already better than scaggs and the coaches have to see it they just dont want to throw into the fire yet.
E-Kennedy/Korzep Both have good hands and are fairly good at blocking. Korzep is an upgrade from Howell: Faster/better hands.
QB- Evans Struggled against Raceland but he is clearly the best we have by a mile.
RB- Huffine/Hayes Huffine looked alright last week but googie was a major dissappiontment for me. I assume he just came back to quick from his injury
FB-Cathey The kid has got everything out of the talent god has given him. Quality player.
Agree or disagree?
I just think if there are freshman who are just as good as seniors why not play them and let them get some experience?
Just wondering.
Are you one of the coaches?
Do you attend each and every practice?
How many years of experience do yo have as a high school or college football coach?
Have you evaluated each player on the team?
Do you know the times in a 40,yard sprint?
Do you know what each bench presses?
Do you know each plays IQ?
Do you know who your best skill players are? And what position they should play depending on all other positions needed filled!
Do you think the frosh. have been evaluated on maybe helping out the varsity team? Or just ignored?
There must be 75 years experience in coaching on the devil sideline.
Do you think three fans/fathers would be better at coaching this team.
I for one would love to see the biggest cry babies given a week with the same team. And go up against say a Greenup Co team that you already beat bad. And see what results they get!!

-Not a coach.
-I have seen some of the practices.
-O years of experience
-Yes I have evaluated every player. Ive seen them all play.
-I do not know there 40s but you can tell who is fast and who isn't.
-Strength doesn't matter when you don't know how to use it
-I know none of the players IQs. It really doesn't matter because a lot of the best players on the team are very slow in school.
-I know who the best skill players are. Watch a game and you will too.
-I have no clue why the froshes don't play. Ask the coaches.
-Experience has got them 6-7 wins the past 4 years and 1 playoff win a year
-No I do not think 3 fans/fathers would be better but Morris as head coach, maynard as O cord, and Mcpeek as D cord is a hell of a lot better than we have right now.
-The players could have beat Greenup without a coach. They are one of the worst teams in the state

Maynard and Mcpeek would be at Russell right now if we would've given them the chance 3 or 4 years ago.
10-28-2012, 06:22 PM
We would also have a lot of kids from other area schools. lol Kidding

You must be on the school board. Or maybe the athletic director.
Must have some good inside connections if not.
Rumors maybe*??????

IMO, if Russell does replace McGlone after this season or sometime in the near future -- McPeek or Maynard would be a better hire than Morris.
Joey Cecil would be someone worth a look too.

McKee hurt his ankle on that first series and didnt run much either.
Ellison and Cole are good little runners with speed and Schroeder ran hard from the fullback spot.
Conley though just an 8th grader should have some memorable head to heads with Baker.

Coach McGlone will be the coach until he decides to give it up.
They had a chance to hire Nathan McPeek as a teacher and assistant when he came out of college but the principle at that time didnt want to hire a first year teacher. It really ticked. McGlone off. He has wanted to bring in others like Jeff Frasure and the same thing occurred.

I was wondering when this rumor mill would start. I have no comment on it. I can see why Maynard would want to stay, i could also see why he would want to coach at his alma mater. I think it would be too much big bald intensity for one sideline, but Maynards defensive mind, coupled with McPeeks offensive mind, could make for a scary combination. Though ud never see it happen.
In reference to the complaints of many russell fans claiming they have just too many underclassmen especially freshman starting, i refer u to just about every 2 or 3 years in raceland. Most jv players play varsity, most freshman play jv. Its like that for 90% of all single A schools. My senior year we had 2 rbs in Denton and Carver lead us in Rushing. They are a slight bend in the regular freshman though, them and Robbie Logan were all extremely strong and beyond prepared for their age.

All the kids he is going up against will be playing on JV and varsity next year. So why couldn't he play against them? And he has the potential to be as good as any back to ever play at Russell IMO.

I think Conley has a chance to be among the Russell elite. What did Gross and Clark have? They had great blocking. Conley will have that also his Sophmore year on up. Baker from Ashland and Juan Thomas as well have or has had great guys opening the holes.

Why is Russell and the Rams no longer playing after this season?

Coach McGlone didn't want to play intersquad scrimmages.

Now where did that starting QB for the devils transfer from? Or is he home grown?

Don't get mad I'm just having fun with it.
He asked the question. I didn't say I agreed with the decision. I don't. But that is the reason the series is being stopped.
Evans didnt just transfer. His dad took a teaching position at Russell and they came in together. Much like the Dixons down your way.

I was listening to the announcer call off all of the Russell senior football players. Four or five live in Raceland.. Just parent school preference!!
10-29-2012, 09:24 AM
Which ones live in Raceland?
10-29-2012, 09:27 AM
Also there is a lot of crossover in the communities. My old house had a Flatwoods address but paid Raceland property taxes. it was in the Russell district. Sat right on the borderline.

FB I'm not getting upset. I didn't take that way. I assumed you were only joking.
I do understand family's send their kids to out of district schools. I did myself with mine. Russell is arguably the best school in eastern ky.
