Pikeville 62 Hazard 50
#31
Putting Raceland, Fairview or Williamsburg ahead of Pikeville based on this game is crazy. After being down 28-21, Pikeville outscored Hazard 35-0 before giving up a score and 2 onside kicks. So if you have athletes as good as Hazard's, hit a hail-mary pass on the last play of the first half, and recover two onside kicks, you might only lose by 2 TDs to Pikeville. I wouldn't count on the hail-mary and 2 onside kicks though, Pikeville will get that fixed.

All i do is win Wrote:Was in attendance for this game and watched every second of it. Hazard is the better team in my opinion, no question. Several fumbles costed them big time, & the bad thing is big hits wasn't even the cause of them. Being careless with the ball is a big reason why hazard lost this game. Fumbled once on the 4 yard line which resulted in a 96 yard scoop and score. Fumbled once inside the 20 on a big break away run, & fumbled another time. Threw a interception on about the 30 which resulted in a 70 yard pick 6 on a very poor thrown ball. Props to the Pikeville D on capitalizing on all of the turnovers. Another BIG issue which hurt hazard was penalties. Several dumb penalties helped Pikeville win this game. One moved the ball from the 45 to the 10 yard line. Not sure of it was pikevilles game plan to kill the clock in the first half or not but they did a good job of it either way. It took Pikeville 11:24 to score and the other 36 seconds hazard scored. Hazard has a very dangerous offense and can strike out of nowhere. #8 running back for Hazard whoever he is, is a flat out grown man and ran all over the panthers and when I say over I mean OVER. Trucking people left and right but he must have made it his mission to fumble the ball on huge gains cause that's what he done the whole game. I believe I heard someone say he is just a junior. Does anyone know I he's getting recruited? Hazards QB is just a freshman and will of course make mistakes as he did in this game but I'm sure will be a dandy in a few years. Hazards tight end and slot at times was a monster I think I heard that his name was Hudson, had some very impressive plays including one right before half time when he rose over 3 panthers for a tremendous catch which resulted in a touch down. Hazards Defense could use some work. As the game progressed I began to notice that there might have been one or two players that played on both sides of the ball. This is high school football, not Division 1 or NFL, get some of your studs on offense out there on D like #8 and the Hudson boy and it could make a world of difference for your Defense & make it alot easier on your offense. If hazard took care of the ball and didn't get so many stupid penalties called on them and play some D with your best athletes and this game could've got UGLY. Hazard dominated upfront. Their line played very well. Also had a much better special teams than Pikeville as someone mentioned above. Hazard makes these fixes and this game is an easy win. Could see a rematch of this later this year.

If Pikeville truly wants to contend for a state title this year like i thought the would they better get their Defense in check. To many wide open holes to run through for big gains. To many easy passes completed. Their corners are soft as butter except for when they have to make a play on the ball. Estep is a good safety who don't care to hit. Props to him for sticking his nose in their when big #8 was going full speed at him. Their corners could use some lessons from him. Pikevilles line was way better last year, don't really know what happen there. Hazard dominated them all game long. Better get them in check also to open up some holes for Chase Hall to run through to make some and if they want to win this year. Hall played well and had some good runs when needed. Estep was clearly the MVP and best player for Pikeville on both sides of the ball IMO. Take him out of this game and the panthers are hurting. Made several HUGE plays on offense and that 96 yard scoop and score on defense as well as some big time tackles that other wise would've resulted in touch downs. Pikevilles line backers wanted no part of #8 tonight as he embarrassed them several times. Estep is a very solid player on both sides of the ball and showed up big time for the panthers on both sides tonight. Pikeville needs to fix several things on defense and get their o line back on track before there should ever be any conversation about contending for a state championship. But at the end of the day I'm like anyone else. A win is a win no matter what. No excuses. Congrats Pikeville!

Going to watch the replay but don't think Hazard's defense stopped Pikeville all night. So the very things you are talking about, Pikeville's o-line and defense, played better than Hazard's lines and defense. You just are not going to win any arguments when Pikeville puts up 62 points on you.

I see where u r coming from. I just strongly feel that both teams defense is weaker than Raceland's right now.
#34
Pikeville will correct there defense and so will Hazard. Racelands defense may be ahead of these two teams but it only counts in the playoffs. That was Hazards first game and errors will be expected in the first couple of games until the boys get into game shape. Pikeville had 1 game under there belt and showed they are a 2nd half team to start the season off and to be honest I think Pikeville played a solid game from start to finish despite the turnovers.

It's the same guys that kept Raceland out of the end zone in the overtime in the playoffs last year. Pikeville's defense will be fine.

I think Pikeville did have an advantage having already played a game. I really expect to see these two teams meet again in Nov. Hope I am right.

I honestly see Pikeville only losing one game during the regular season to Belfry. They are much improved and could play in the state championship this year.
#38
Belfry will be a tough match up for Pikeville. I also think Middlesboro has a shot at beating Pikeville too but the rest of the schedule Pikeville should roll.
#39
Both of these 2 teams are very good programs with rich traditions. They will both be in the mix at the end. The thing is even if you are play St X, Trinity or BG, if your defense gives up 50-62 points in a game you better do a lot of fixing. For that reason alone I would currently have to give the edge to Raceland now in the east.

Do-double-gg Wrote:Congrats to Pikeville on a very good game. Hazard has nothing to hang their heads about because from an outsider looking in neither team was head and shoulders better then the other. I think Hazard has the most youth and the future looks bright. If they can fix some tackling issues and get a little better rythm between the QB and receivers they will give any 1a team in the east fits come playoff time.
Here is the good news, you have a coaching staff who are tried and tested and will get this team to where by playoff time they will look like a different team. You don't get to and win a championship over a Mayfield team by pure luck. This coaching staff knows what they are doing. Pay no attention to the score of this game because if both teams meet again it could go either way.

There's three things we can count on . Death, taxes, and a WAR in the east in single A come playoff time. :devilflam

Who was #2 for Hazard?

He is not on the roster the school provided the Pike County Bowl with?

Thanks

Is there an online site/paper that has the box score from this one?

I ask because I am doing my not so famous game report and in my notes I had #46 scoring Pikeville's first touchdown.

I have no 46 on my roster, so I might have been wrong on my notes and it could have been 45(Daniel Pugh)

Thanks in advance
#45
Middlesboro give Pikeville a good game, probably beats them. So does Belfry. I don't know if this team is a state title contender yet....I truly just don't think they are strong enough up front to be able to move some of the big strong teams off the ball.
#46
45, Daric Pugh scored the first td. He was wearing 45 in the game
#47
Pikeville has a really strong offensive line and as seen against Hazard they can put points up on the board. And the offense has enough weapons to keep any team they face honest.

The defense as stated must get better, but lets remember in this game the special teams caused the defense to start off bad twice.

Pikeville turned the ball over hurting the defense again.

Not making excuses just tossing out facts.

I am not sure anyone left on the schedule has a rec as good as # 4 or #2 that Hazard has.

Thanks. I figured I had it wrong in my notes.

I do apologize for the questions, but this is my third article tonight and I am going on three hours of sleep. Plus I just finished doing another insanity workout before starting this game report. My body is tell me I am 50 not 18, but mu head and ears are not paying attention.

The_Rock Wrote:Don't really think Coach Dixon showed what he could do on defense. He was
playing a very loose laidback defense vs. a primarily run oriented team.
Dixon will beat Pikeville when it counts. Jones and Arnett could
score at will. When Jones dots the I Pikeville got out of the way. Pikeville
does have a nice team though but I think Dixon will take care of them
When it counts the most.
Chris Hudson should be thrown to 10 times a game or let him carry
the ball some at tailback. Not to many guys want to go head to head with a
6'7-250 tailback. The guy has awesome speed. D1 receiver if he wants to be. Justin Johnson from Perry Central would been just like Hudson if he'd put the pads on.
Pikeville's linemen, nor linebackers never got out of Jones' way. The kid was hard to bring down, no doubt. But he was met head on, and finally was tackled by his ankles, and lower legs. Pikeville's D finally realized that, and that's when they began to see some success. Not taking anything away from the kid. Anyone would love to have that kind of rb on their team. He's a force to contend with, but to say Pikeville's D "got out of the way" is simply NOT TRUE.

The last two weeks Pikeville has gone on runs of 28-0 against Prestonsburg and 35-0 against Hazard. That should worry every 1a team in Kentucky, even Mayfield.
Going to be an exciting year.:popcorn:Confusedinglepar

Congrats to my Panthers on a big win! The defense needs to get better and Coach Thacker will get them better. But the plays we made on D were the difference in this game. The pick 6 by Charles and the intercepted pitch for a TD by Estep at the the 2 yard line were the difference in the score. Not to mention the pick at the end of the game that stopped Hazards furious comeback bid cold in its tracks. Point being our D didn't dominate by any stretch but they did make plays when we ABSOLUTELY needed them to. On offense: So far the only team that can stop us is...us. We need to clean up the turnovers on offense plain and simple. But give Hazard credit as well they kept fighting when they were down 28 in the 4th quarter. That will serve them well as the season moves on. If both these teams make the Semi Finals...It will be one heck of a game come November! HAIL PIKEVILLE!!!

Where did the write up of the game go that NCF wrote ?

Good to see you back Pork. Kinda what I was thinking. Some folks get a little ahead of themselves at times. I am excited for them but its a different game now then it is in late Nov or early Dec.

Yes it is !!! It was a good game and both teams need a ton of work !!!!! We looked bad and I know it. But we are a ten times better team than we played like sat. I would like to have won but we will come out a better team from it.And not a team with a ton of false hope !!!!

Who in the heck has false hope? The only false hope I have seen is Hazard hoping they could beat Pikeville!:lame:
