At the risk of not looking over anyone, this would be my choice. I wish there were more than four heads on Mt. Rushmore lol!
In all honesty, Chuck Huffman was probably the best running back in Pikeville history, got offered a scholly by Nebraska. Neal Smith was 2nd team All-SEC DB at Vanderbilt. Ray Haley may well be the best athlete to ever wear the maroon and white. That's why I stayed away from naming players. haha.

Can't argue with any of those, but I will note that Nick Jamerson was a Mr Football finalist his senior year, might move him up to the Mountain,.

I honestly can't make myself pick the fourth one. Many, many coaches and players deserving.
What about Steve Bird? He played on back-to-back state title game teams, winning one and losing one.
If going on HS alone I recall they had a beast of a LB/Lineman (?) in those title years in the 70's. He didn't go anywhere and may have ended up in legal trouble afterwards.

I believe Burley Burkhart would be in there ahead of Leger, Harris or Reagan. I think he was drafted or went to camp with an NFL team.

Seth Hyden would have been a special player at EKU had he not had a shoulder injury end his career during his sophomore season. He was doing a great job on the defensive side of the ball for the Colonels.
What about Larry Morris who signed with UK?

Bell County has had so many players you about have to go with Mount Rushmore for positions!
HB-Phillip Green, Lance Burnett, Jonathan Polly, Dwayne Good, Shawn Robbins, Scott Chaney, Cory Davenport, Reggie Robbins,
QB-Derek Jones, Shawnta Zachery, Jason Crockett, Ben Madon
FB-Ben Brooks, Kevin Napier, Justin Goodin, Joe Smith, Brent Barton
WR-Joe McGeorge, Harvey Miracle, Buckeye Hunter, Cody Davenport
TE-Darrin Clark, Tommy Crockett, Eric Ely, Brent Slusher
OL-Arthur Carter, Justin Boatright, Jason Green, Dan Turner, Jordan Marcum, Joe Hammontree, Jacob Warren, Caleb Carter
DL-Billy Lawson, Will Henderson, Fred Hoskins, Joe Smith, Kevin Napier, Arthur Carter, Robert Muncy, Tyler Harbin
LB-Crit Calebs, Shawn Jones, Jeremy Collett, Brandon Coomes, Brent Barton, John Dudley Hilton, Jonathan Polly, John David Lefevers
DB-Derek Jones, Ben Madon, Dallas Greer, Jason Crockett, Matt Ely, Keith Nelson, Harvey Miracle, Clint Chedester
K-Monte Merrick
I know I've forgot a lot of good players, but this is off the top of my head. Some positions I went ahead and put 8 players down for. My favorite 0player to watch play was Scott Chaney though. And Keith Nelson because he was an Arjay boy like me.

Looks pretty good to me. You have some guys on that list from the 80's to present day, that is awesome.

The whole point is you have to pick only 4.
I'm sure there were some other great presidents, but they picked four, so there's probably a way to cut the Bell list to four.

I hope you are kidding. Brent filled in at the QB spot his senior year after the starter had his leg broken, but Horvath came back for the playoffs and led Corbin to the finals before losing by 1 to Mayfield. Brent was a pretty good DB and started there for a year, possibly two, but he does not meet this criteria.

Steve Bird, Greg Taylor Tommy Adkins and R.C. Thomas(lineman you are referring to) would have to be considered, but here are the 4 I would go with.
1. Calvin Bird
2. Rodger Bird
3. Roy Kidd
4. Archie Powers

DALE Wrote:Hard not to put those guys up there. Who would you consider as an alternate? Not familiar with some of the earlier teams but the 78 team had several that possibly could be considered; Bobby Mullins, David LeMaster, BJ Ward. Bobby was a beast that had signed with UK, David was the QB and consistent winner as a coach minus his first year, probably more notable for his baseball career, and BJ was an All-State RB as a Sophomore and Senior, not sure about his Junior year. Mike was the only All-American I believe Paintsville has ever had, Tony was All-SEC at UK and the only guy that I am aware of to play in the NFL and Coach Brugh are locks.
Dale I have to admit I cheated on my list. I showed it to my uncle and he gave me the answers. I don't have the full knowledge like him and then I read what you said, he was one of those 70's guys and knew all you posted. He kept saying Bobby Mullins was the guy but BJ Ward was special too. He also said Don Jarrell and Roger Daniels and Keith Gullispe were really good too. I do know when I were in school the Bobby Mullins scholarship award was a special honor to receive.

Got to agree wholeheartedly. Man. There has been so many we could name, but like I said in my previous post , wish there were more than 4 heads on the rock. Got to agree with you though Westside. The linemen do seem to get overlooked. Without them, there would be no yards gained. To be honest, imo, Pikeville's line could use some more Honakers, and Websters this season.

Somerset:
Jim Williams
Coach Caine
Toney Massey
John Cole
Honorable mention to Robbie Lucas, Jay Cobb, James fletcher. I think you could make arguments for all 7. Jim Williams and Tony Massey both played in the NFL so those are locks, coach Caine was a great coach, and John cole still holds numerous state receiving records. Jay Cobb resurrected the program and Robbie Lucas has won 5 straight regional titles. James fletcher (according to lure) was one of the best backs in program history.
Any somerset fans care to add to this?

If you want to mention linemen, you'd HAVE to include Bob Shurtleff and Mark Littrell for Pikeville, two linemen who signed with SEC schools off the same team! For a Class A school!!!

Now, that's something you just don't see everyday. Not one, but two players off of a class a football team signing with SEC Schools. I remember very well watching both linemen play in the late 70's. In fact, they made it to the finals that yr. didn't they? Loosing to a real good Ft. Campbell team?
