In person
Mayfield vs Hopkinsville. Somerset vs Beechwood. Breathitt scrimmage Rockcastle.
On film I have seen
Breathitt vs South Laurel
Mayfield vs PC
LCA vs Belfry.

Out of all those games, which teams were you most impressed with?

Probably go see DeSales and Lexington Catholic. Been wanting to see their qb.
Also,
Breathitt scrimmaged at rockcastle which is well west of Jackson.
So you went to the Mayfield-Hoptown game but didn't post a thing about it. Instead, you were posting about how bad South Laurel looked and that they never had a chance versus Breathitt?

South laurel was awful. Never had a chance in this one. Breathitt looked pretty good. Their running game is really impressive. Collins is a stud and o hara is getting better each week. Passing game needs work.
If one of these 2 don't go down their is no one on Breathitt s schedule that can play within 20 pts of them. I see them undefeated and unchallenged until semi state barring no major injuries.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

That night I was more impressed by Breathitt. I maybe right in this conclusion as Breathitt held SL to 8 pts if I remember correctly and SL just hung 40 on top 5 3a power Bell Co.
Also that was a Breathitt thread so why would I post about anyone else in a Breathitt thread even if I had seen another team in person on that particular night.
You may want to check out BluegrassSportsNation on Facebook they do an excellent job on streaming Breathitts games.

I was most impressed by Belfry. Especially considering all the injuries and graduation losses they have. I see them playing for title come December

Honestly, of the games you mentioned, I was most impressed with Somerset and LCA. I know Beechwood is way down but Somerset has just been impressive overall, not just that game. And even though LCA lost to us, I was extremely impressed with that team watching them battle Belfry. I think they will have a really good year. Mayfield is Mayfield and I've said all along that their the best team in the class but I do believe 2A could get really interesting if LCA and Somerset continue to improve as the season goes on. And it's not to far fetched now to think that someone other than the Cardinals could be crowned champions of 2A when it's all said and done.

Mayfield has not played anyone that goes by or has initials PC. I will assume you mean PT. It was not on film to be seen

I saw the film on Monday I think it was. There were several links to it online. Not sure where you get there was no film to be seen?
Don't get me wrong Mayfield is an impressive team. I just done think they are as invisible as some of you guys think.

There is no film of that game online, maybe it was a live stream but you will not find one now. Wish there was one now I could watch. The only thing you can see now are highlights.

It's sad that grown men are on here questioning another man about what games he attended. At the end of the day, Wolfcat, just like any other person, is entitled to his own opinion. As far as the rankings go, my top five would look like:
1. Somerset
2. Mayfield
3. Breathitt
4. LCA
5. Owensboro Catholic
You can disagree with me if you like, I won't get offended.

Opinions are fine. But when you represent your opinion on seeing all of these teams in person, when it's obvious you haven't, it takes away from your credibility by a lot.

Mayfield without question is #1.
Somerset, looks good, but not the best schedule #2
LCA, played Belfry tough #3
4-10 Doesn't matter. No chance.

Is this not what makes it fun and partly what this site is made for? On to my take, its Mayfield at #1 and then way back down the line is where everyone else is. There is no team in AA that will come within 21 points of Mayfield and there is a good chance this teams finishes at 15-0. Somerset and Breathitt seem to be a popular choice for top contenders. But neither team plays much of a schedule. Outside of Somerset playing Corbin, who is down a little from where they were last year, there really isn't anyone to gage them and Breathitt schedule is terrible. Loading up on 1A schools will not get you ready for a Mayfield. Mayfield schedules up every year and it prepares them for the run and this is likely their year.

The Mayfield faithful have forgotten what a Championship defensive front looks like. 2A will need to be way "down" for this front to hold up. Joe may make adjustments......he always does.

Beechwood, Williamsburg (good small school), Hazard (good small school), Danville, LCA, Corbin... anyone looking at this schedule and thinking itâs not any good is absolutely crazy. Mayfield fans are completely confident till they get smacked in the mouth - see Hazard, Danville, and CAL as of late. Who knows if anybody can beat them this year but if theyâre 21 points better than Somerset I know this; they have a heck of a team. The jumpers have a lot of things going in the right direction and a lot of talent to go along with it.
All of that said BOTH teams have a long way to go to Kroger field. Itâs not a given for either.

We know a lot about winning it, you had to go back over a decade to get some of those and failed to mention all the titles we have won over that period which goes to show we know a lot about what it takes and this bunch has it. We will be there and will cruise.

No not over a decade - Hazard 2011, Danville 2017, CAL 2018
Mayfield has a great tradition rich and title laden program but your fan base is conceded to the point you canât see that there are a couple teams that have a shot of playing with you guys. Your fan base has shown this hubris for a long time and I think itâs bitten you guys of late.
You all will definitely cruise, nobody in 2A that far west can play with you.

I believe Somerset could win the title. The little tid bits I have seen on them , they look impressive. However, to win they will have to have a respectable running game and more than one top notch receiver and a very good defensive secondary to contain what will be thrown at them and luck that they don't lose significant players to injury (just like any team).

To be fair I think they have a lot of those pieces. The run game, multiple good (a couple really really good) receivers and a secondary that keeps improving. Theyâre tough in the box defensively and have a good o line.
Staying healthy is the key. 99.9% of all teams canât afford to lose players X, Y or Z; I donât think Somerset is any different.
Let mayfield hold the one spot, no targets needed in this neck of the woods. It will all be settled in a couple of months. Nobody wins a title in week 4.

Like I said you went back over a decade for some of those, LCA). But not sure its relevant. Yes we do have great tradition and we can be conceded and this year we can back it up. I must add that our banter has got this thing going and its fun so I hope you keep firing back but be friends at the end of the day.

No enemies here, just want to see great small school football and hopefully stay in the conversation - most years that conversation includes the usual suspects with the exception of the rare down year for some. This year is no different, Mayfield, LCA, a Beechwood team that will be better by years end and hopefully the Jumpers can get involved in the mix when it counts.
Also I didnât go over a decade, went back as far as Hazard 2011. Didnât mention the 2009 LCA team that had skill all over the field.

I think the Beechies will also be greatly improved by playoff time but they will likely have a ugly record. The beatings they are taking now will payoff

All the teams that have beaten Mayfield for the title played a relatively healthy Cards team except Hazard in 11. A wounded Jonathon Jackson and Labront Scott plus a key lineman broke his leg against Beechwood in semi's. Those types of injuries put you behind the eight ball in key games. Let's hope all the teams are healthy come playoff time.

Some Mayfield fans can be arrogant, no doubt. Some would say Mayfield is the best thing since sliced bread and most of the time haven't even seen the majority of the teams they're talking about. It's just all about Mayfield.. But, that's a few, not all.. Every fan base has there share, just seems like in Mayfield's case, those are the vocal ones..
In 2009, I thought Mayfield has an excellent team, but, then got manhandled by LCA in the title game. That LCA team would have beaten us 8 out of 10 times. Outstanding team.
In 2011, Hazard handled a very good Mayfield team that was undefeated coming into it. I do think injuries played a part, but, to Hazard's credit, they took it to them from start to finish and deserved that title.
In 2017, Mayfield got beat by an undefeated Danville team that probably had there best team in years. They were the better team.
In 2018, CAL and Mayfield were both undefeated, but, CAL had the better line play and was the better team.
So, it's not like Mayfield can just roll into Kroger Field and get handed the trophy. They've had some really good teams get beat in the finals and it could happen again. Sometimes, other teams have that special team that puts it all together for a particular year. Mayfield's always going to put a competitive team on the field, just that some years they have more talent than others. I think most knowledgeable Mayfield fans that have seen this program for a long time, would tell you that this team has that special look, but, with that said, they may run into that one team that may be a little better and knock them off.

I wish they would rank the cards 10 or lower. They get talked up every and at the end they believe it then they get to state and play like crap. Cards are good right now but are not unbeatable. So far from what I have seen our D sucks and needs to get back to basics. Secondary getting burnt and getting a lot of pass interference, missing easy tackles and giving up large plays after. Lots of work needed.
09-11-2019, 08:57 PM
LCA had the better team and Danville had a better team disagree on Hazard and Cal. Mayfield just blew those games in the CAL game Mayfield worried to much about Milton Wright and let the running back run all over us as far as team skill I feel we were better if the plan was good and played like we did all year.

I think Mayfield QB Stinson is the best in 2A and should he go out I it would be unlikely Mayfield wins the title and of course a game where we have a lot of turnovers could see things go south. Outside of that I like the Cards chances,
Of those title losses I think we cold have won anyone of them except 2009. In 2011 Hazard pounded us but that was a shell of the Cards team that got them there. I was still shocked but looking back we never stood a chance. Danville and CAL were just better and I hate it when it does.

LCA when they came out to warm up that year they looked like the Monstars from space jam I knew then we werenât in that game.
Hazard was 10 to six at halftime with 1 converted third down in the first half the way we played all year and then to see the way we played that day was not the same team I feel we were better. Go back and watch it on YouTube flat was a understatement look at the mistakes and they werenât caused by hazard.
Danville the fish guy from the other sight kept bringing up Vancleve all year so when we got to state I watch some of Danvilleâs film and when I seen that guy I knew we had know one to stop him.
Cal was not better than Mayfield as a team lots of mistakes were made overthrown passes snaps over the QB head etc
With this being said these teams were better those days but with Cal and hazard Mayfield didnât show up.
