Breathitt County is in 2A, not 3A.

Agreed, A lot of talented team's mentioned on these lists. Hopefully some championships will be brought back to the mountains this year.

If I was to pick my preseason favorites on these lists to bring home a championship, I'd have to start in 1a and go with Pikeville.  If I understand correctly Belfrey is in 2a, be interesting to see how they do there. In 4a right now I give the slight nod to Corbin over JC. That's just talking mountain teams. Overall PT, Boyle, Franklin Co., Cub Catholic, Highlands, Ashland.  4a is no joke lol but I'll go with PT and Boyle as the 4a favorites at the moment.

Now welcome to Kongs geography 101 Smile  Here we include Ashland and Raceland in the mountains.  Ashland borders WV which is mountains along with southern Ohio, again mountains.  Ashland and Raceland are located in Appalachia KY. If a area is located in Appalachia then it's mountains in Kongs geography book Wink

None of the teams listed so far win a state championship in 2025.

Pikeville is the only team that might play in the state championship game.

Sperry was weapon hard to ever replace that  but Breathitt return almost everything. I think as whole they be much better in passing game this year. The turnovers killed Breathitt that game . Bobcats had almost 300 yards passing in that game and Sperry had 100 of it on 4 catches . Letcher did a good job stopping the run.

With Lawrence County returning all that they are, they should be in the top 10 in my opinion.

Perry central wins 4A. It’s already been guaranteed to happen either this season or next.

WYMT coverage are preseason Mountain Top 10, IMO:

1. Corbin
2. Johnson Central
3. Pulaski County
4. Belfry
5. Bell County
6. Pikeville
7. Rockcastle County
8. Somerset
9. Hazard
10. Lawrence County

On the outside looking in: Prestonsburg, Letcher Co Central, Whitley County, Southwestern

Letcher Central lost a lot of production on field from last year.  Breathitt returns almost the whole roster. Losing Sperry and Terry for sure hurts Bobcats. But I think they be much improved from last year.

I somehow left Breathitt Co completely off... my bad!

I got Belfry beating JC when they play that game during the season provided both teams are fairly healthy. I think they are a more complete team.

That was a heck of a game last year! I expect it to be another classic. I also agree with Belichick. Belfry wins this game, just because it is at Their home field.

What are we expecting from that Corbin-Johnson Central game this season? Will they combine for 100+ points again or will the teams play some defense this year? Who do you like in that titanic struggle at the Redhound Football Complex on the banks of the lovely Lynn Camp Creek?

Corbin gets that done OSH but I do believe the JC line will give the Hounds some trouble again and we could see another high scoring game.  JC line is stout but they don’t have the RB they had last year. Still have good backs but not the same level.

Lawrence Co isn’t getting enough love.  IMO Rockcastle and Breathitt are getting too much.

Lawrence has as much talent at the top end as they've had maybe in 20 years.  But very few of their best players are linemen, and they have no quality depth.  If a couple young guys step up on the O and D lines and they stay healthy, they'll be good.  Good enough to beat Bell?  Not sure about that yet but I predict a rematch of those 2 with a trip to Kroger Field on the line.

You said it best last year OSH calling it a pinball arcade game  Smile

HHopefully JC gets their D lined out this year. Hoping we can soon get over the Corbin hump. It's been a few minutes since we've won that game.

Right now in all honesty, I believe Corbin gets the win in this one. It's still pre-season, a lot can happen, minds sometimes change, hopefully JC makes me change my mind once season starts.

I think we'll be fine with our guys running the ball.  I suspect some new names might step into some of those roles.  There's definitely a lot of potential there.

Cumberland Falls in the fall is one of the prettiest places you can find anywhere.  Might make a trip there the weekend of this game and watch the game. You'll know me when you see me. I'll stick out like a sore thumb. Wearing my gorilla costume running around with a pile of bananas in each hand  Smile Cool

Can't make any predictions about Corbin until the signing period is over hehe. Plus no way to know how good their QB will be.
I have Belfry over JC also but that game should be a classic.

Already nervous about Pikeville opening at CAL. From what I've read they have D-1 players all over the field.
