Congratulations to Coach Allen and his wife on the birth of their baby!
What a week they must have had with that and all the events surround-
ing this game. Best of luck to Coach Matney and his wife on the upcoming
arrival of the newest member of the Eagle Football Family. We need to
remember that these coaches and players are individuals, all with their
own private lives going on outside of football. Sometimes it seems to me
as if some of us feel like they "belong" to us and that their job is to make
us happy. It's impossible to please every fan and every parent. No matter
what they do, someone isn't going to like it. We need to remember that.

That's real smart, risk getting Dials, Tackett and Johnson hurt, the best LB trio in the state and he wants to make fools out of Pville by shutting them out. JC has a real good shot at winning their region, they should win it. I just hope Matney don't screw those chances up by doing stuff like this.I'm sure he's going to loose sleep over your opinion of his coaching style. He called off the dogs and put the JV and freshman in but your statistical driven staff ran a halfback pass to the QB. How stupid is that? They risk injury to the only and I mean only weapon they have just to get some stats and a score. I would've put the 1st team D back in myself because of the pansy play that I just mentioned in the previous sentence. Jim Matney has forgotten more football than you will ever know there duckster. You also want to say that he was trying to shut out Paintsville to make fools out of them. I think being down 49-0 at the half and only getting one first down already accomplished that. I'll tell you this, the more you post on here just proves to me and everyone else that you honestly don't have a clue about most of what you speak about.

Amen to that.
What do you expect him to do when he's playing the JV defense in a game with a running clock that everybody in the stadium just wants to end as soon as possible, and instead of just pounding it up the middle to kill the clock, the Paintsville staff runs a freaking HALFBACK PASS against those kids?
I for one was extremely happy to see the first team defense come charging back out there without a second's hesitation after that nonsense. You want to talk about risking getting people hurt and not being concerned about statistics? That stunt right there shows exactly why people want to hang triple digits on the Paintsville Tigers.
Glad you got your precious consolation touchdown. Anyone who was there will remember what matters, which is that we spent the entire game beating the Paintsville Tigers like a bunch of Gitmo detainees, and I think only the Geneva Convention prevents torture like that from getting any worse.
Was also good to see that your only score came as a result of plays made by two county boys, Doderer and Deaton. Always like to see the county kids do well, even if they get lost in the mornings on the way to the school they should be going to.

JC has alot more to lose than Paintsville, that's my point there What Do I Know. JC has their FIRST region championship to lose, everyone knows Paintsville won't get past the second round if they even get that far. Did you ever think about that there What Do I Know.

Hmm, with a running clock Paintsville runs a pass play instead running up the middle to kill the clock. Guess what Einstein, with a RUNNING CLOCK an incomplete pass don't mean jack, the clock still runs. The only time the clock stopped is when a player was injured who I believe was Subby, anyone got any news on him. Paintsville was trying to score, do you actually think that the coaches wanted to get shutout. Noone wants to get shutout, they try their best to get in the endzone.

All I can say is thank god for the running clock in the second half. The Tigers came out fired up in the second half, I was proud of them. I wish they would have played like that in the first half. Hats off to both teams, good luck to both the rest of the season and hopefully both will bring their respected district championships to Johnson County.
On a side note, I won my bet when I took Paintsville and the 77 points, lol.
Putting the starts back in actually helped P'ville they got their TD and ran another 4 minutes off the running clock in doing so. If they hadn't run the extra time off JC would have scored another TD. I think you ought to thank JC coaching staff!

HHMM? Tyler Deaton lives in Paintsville. So I think he is at the right school. Doderer's father is a teacher and coach at Paintsville. So he is at the right school. So let's not get started on that crap again. I agree with you PC. No one wants to get shut out. So I guess GE as a coach would have had his team take a knee at the start of the 4th and just take their time with the running clock and get it over with insted of trying to coach his kids to a score. Boy, that would have been a great example for the student body and team. 56-6 aint good enough? Who give's a crap if they scored three times on the second string? You still won and you have all your key players for the run at the end.

What i want to know is why that Paintsville hasnt signed its part of the contract to continue the Apple Bowl? When Matney arrived everyone was hollering and whinning that Matney was going to put an end to this great game. Now that you have had your head handed to you every since the man has arrived on a silver platter, you are wanting out of the game? You know what i say, COWARDLY!! JC never backed out of this game when Paintsville had 8 and 6 game winning streaks in the series and now that JC has had 3 your wanting to get out while you can. Like Ive said before, this game will never be close while Matney is the coach and if you want to get out so you still have your all time series record of 20-13 then go ahead but everyone will know why you choose to end the series.
09-30-2006, 02:30 PM
If I'm not mistaken while they were interviewing Matney last night on WSIP before the game, he stated that the contract was signed for the next 2 seasons.
09-30-2006, 02:43 PM
By the way. I was glad to see the Ratliff kid back last for JC. Glad to know that he is healthy and recovering well. Don't know of ANY teams that can run 3 kids in and out at QB and keep things running smooth. What a Luxury.

Maybe so but i know as of yesterday at the JC pep rally Paintsville had still yet to sign their side of the contract. Maybe they did so sometime after that. Its just pretty sad that 3 years ago Paintsville was complaining that Matney was going to end the Apple Bowl and after 3 beatings with a combined score of 152-18 Paintsville is now the ones draging their feet on getting things done. Anyone with horse sense knows that as long as Matney is coach the outcomes will be very similiar to this, but for Paintsville to back out now would put a big yellow streak down their back.

Shawn Grimm can absolutely fly. Blake Johnson is a brute he's tough guy to tackle. Congrats to Matney and staff.

I wouldn't go as far as to say, as long as Matney is there PHS will never win another. I've watched the Apple Bowl for many years and each school has their time to shine. JC is loaded with talent and will be for a few more years to come. BUT, I can promise you that PHS's time will come again. It always has and always will for both schools. Talent levels go up and down, that's part of it in this area in any sport. As for the game ending. I doubt that will happen. Did you see the size of the crowd there last night? $5 a head (WOW). Gate alone was tremendous. Not counting concessions. The schools benefit to much from this game alone. I was told by one of the PHS workers, that last night may have been one of the top 10 crowds at PHS. So, they will keep playing, don't worry.

I agree. Both schools send this out and all the blame shouldnt just be placed on Paintsville. But the only thing i have to say is when is Paintsville going to learn to not to make stupid and snide remarks about JC's best running backs. Last year they did it with Blume and this year with Grimm and they were torched by both. But ill take either one of this classy young men over anything, and i mean anything, that Paintsville puts on its field every Friday. As I stated in another thread, Daniel Pugh is the only player Paintsville has that would see the field for JC, and after last night Im not even sure that he would.

Well, That's your Opinion. But, I'm sure Coach Matney would love to have a couple of the PHS players on his team. As well as one or two from P-Burg or SC or even LC.

Trust me on this one, many coaches in the past wanted this commitment from the administration but Matney is the first to really get commitment.

Well the fact of the matter is JC has always had this talent pool. How come at the Middle School level these kids were killing everyone around, especially Paintsville, winning their conference year in and year out and when they got to the High School level, they were the ones getting pushed around. You can say what you wanted, JC hired coaches with this talent and what did they do, 5-25 in 3 years. Coach Matney is a great developer of talent and nows how to use what he has to achieve results. I have seen what he done with much less talent at Sheldon Clark and thats why I am such a big supporter of him. I dont care if you dont like the fact that I refer to him, and if what you say is true about his players, which I dont believe is, then let him leave and see how tired they are of hearing about him, cause i gauarantee that they will be in the same position they were in after Musick left. These players should not be complaining about their coach cause they are achieving great results that should have been coming years and years ago.

JCHS has always had great talent that was on the field but just as much roaming the halls. They used to get there fair share of transfers come in from kids that want just playing time but that has all changed.....nearly every able bodied kid that should suit up, does now at JCHS and kids are transfering that are great players and want to play for a great program now!!!
09-30-2006, 06:05 PM
OK....now everyone is saying that JCHS could have scored a hundred!!! No way!!! The reason is for the rule of the running clock after a 45 point lead.
JC scored wi 1:30 to go in the first half to go up 49-0!!
Paintsville got the ball to start the second half and by the time JC scored in the third, 9 minutes had elasped on the running clock! JC could possibly have scored 3 more times after halftime at the most! And I would have talked our players into faking injuries to kill more clock to keep that from happening, but I couldn't find any of you all that were saying 70-80+ point game so we could make a wager!!
65 point victories are about as big as you can get!
