Hopefully I won't fly off a ride or get caught on fire by one lol.
The Carnival just gives you that extra trill lol...

Bypro Station and The William King Band usually draw the crowds in at the Mountain Dew Stage.

warriorpride Wrote:Yep same here, I awlays loved going when I was young to ride on the crappy rides but now i dont like going as much.

It's funny, I used to love riding all the crappy carnival rides when I was a kid too. Now that I am an adult, though, I guess I just look at the rides and wonder just how old some of those things are. I bet some of them were the same rides I rode 15-20 years ago. Big Grin

If my kids were old enough to want to ride some of them, I don't know how comforatable I would be with them getting on...

What area are you from Pink?

I can't wait for today to end. Thursday seems like a world away though. For some reason I am more exciting about Hillbilly Days this year more than ANY other.

I am from around the area, just never got around to going. What are some of the activities?

Well there are two stages set up on opposite ends of town and one stage at the gazebo in the park. The first stage is at the Expo Center this year and it referred to as the Mountain Dew Stage. There are GREAT local bands that play there. This year I know that Bypro Station will be there along with Downtrend and I think the William King Band along with some others. The second stage is located across from BB&T bank and features some local singers, not really bands such as the Big Sandy Singers or other local solo acts. The gazebo in the park is all bluegrass, all the time. There are carnival rides. There are rock walls climbs. Great food. Just a little bit of everything. The Army is there giving away free stuff for doing push ups, chin ups, etc. In the bottom level of the parking garage is all vendors set up with merchandise. Those have mostly crafts, collectibles, do it yourself stuff, clothes, etc. The food vendors are along Hambley Blv., Main Street, and a few others. Vendors not in the parking garage offer t-shirts, stickers, etc. I don't really know what else to tell you. Grab a bunch of your friends and come walk around at least one day. It's a great time.

I am goin for Bypro Station and the food.
#46
From what I know Bypro Station is really popular in the Floyd County area.

Downtrend will be musically what I want to see.

I'm mainly going to hang out with my friends that will be in from school, see who else I run into and have some good lemonade and funnel cake along the way.

Thanks tribe for filling me in.. sounds like fun.

HB days let me down a little. It was not as big as it's been in years past. Also the "Mountain Dew" stage was no where near the Expo center, it was down Hambley Blvd. at the very end of the festivities.

I was also conned by a carnie. He told me I could play the dart game for free, so I went over there, he said the first throw was on him (which I guess normally costs $2). I made the shot and then he said that if I made the next two I would get one of the big prizes, not a small one like you normally get. So I threw them and made them both and he then told me each throw was $5. So he made me pay $10 for the throws which I was never told the price of and then instead of getting a "big" prize I got one of the "medium" size prices.

One of my main goals was to find a new pocket knife, most of the places had cheap knives that looked kind of cool, but I've gotten those before and they fall apart in a matter of weeks. I did find a place that was selling Case knives but they were ridiculously overpriced.

I think we're going to the parade tomorrow, I hope that's decent.

Somebody get me some kettle corn and a fruit smoothie....the Black-Gold Festival isn't until September. Sad

IMO, Hillbilly Days beats the Black and Gold festival and Apple Days, BY FAR.

I can't stand walking through the carnival because of those guys, they just won't shut up. If I wanted to pay $2 for the chance to win something that's worth 25 cents, I'd save time just giving them the money and leaving.

If you want to win at the carnival, take a younger kid with you...they let the kids win.
